Performance of lettuce in sole cropping and intercropping with green manures Horticultura Brasileira
Negrini,Ana Clarissa A; Melo,Paulo César T de; Ambrosano,Edmilson José; Sakai,Rogério Haruo; Schammass,Eliana Aparecida; Rossi,Fabrício.
The performance of lettuce in sole and intercropped with green manures was assessed under different establishment times. The lettuce fresh and dry weight, number of leaves per plant, diameter and length of head, and fresh and dry weight of green manure were evaluated. The intercropping design was additive and both cash and cover crops were planted in rows. The experimental design was of randomized complete blocks in split plot scheme, with six replicates. The plots represented the green manure sowing days (0, 20, 40 and 60 before transplanting of lettuce), and the sub-plots were assigned by cropping systems (lettuce in sole crop and intercropped with black oat, cowpea or white lupin). Simultaneous planting in the intercropping did not affect the lettuce...

Calibração do medidor de clorofila Minolta SPAD-502 para avaliação do conteúdo de nitrogênio do milho PAB
Zotarelli,Lincoln; Cardoso,Eduardo Garcia; Piccinin,Jorge Luiz; Urquiaga,Segundo; Boddey,Robert Michael; Torres,Eleno; Alves,Bruno José Rodrigues.

Population density and weed infestation in organic no-tillage corn cropping system under different soil covers Planta Daninha
Favarato,L.F.; Galvão,J.C.C.; Souza,J.L.; Guarçoni,R.C.; Souza,C.M.; Cunha,D.N..
Currently, one of the biggest challenges faced by organic no-tillage farming is weed control. Thus, the use of cropping practices that help in the control of weeds is extremely important. The objective of this study was to evaluate population density and level of weed infestation in an organic no-tillage corn cropping system under different soil covers. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with six repetitions and five treatments, consisting of three soil covers in an organic no-tillage system, and an organic and a conventional system, both without soil cover. The treatments with soil cover used a grass species represented by the black oat, a leguminous species represented by the white lupine, and intercropping between both species....

Lupine as a potential agent against diet-induced obesity through adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase pathway: crude oil versus nanoemulsion formulations BJPS
Mohafez,Omar Mahmoud; Alhaider,Ibrahim Abdelrahman; Shehata,Tamer Mohamed; Mohamed,Maged Elsayed.
Obesity represents a major challenge to the pharmaceutical community due to the minimal availability of anti-obesity drugs and the drawbacks of current weight-loss agents. The study described herein presents lupine oil, in two pharmaceutical formulations, as a potential anti-obesity agent via its effect on different physiological, biochemical, and hormonal parameters. Rats were divided into two groups; one group was continued on a standard commercial rodent diet and served as the non-obese control. The other group was fed a high-fat diet for 7 weeks to prepare an obese rat model. Then, the obese rats were divided into groups to receive 100 mg/kg of the crude lupine oil or nanoemulsion for 10 or 20 days. Lupine oil showed a potent body weight-reducing...

Effect of an infusion of canelo and bitter lupin on Aegorhinus superciliosus adults Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Quintana,Romina; Palma,Alexis; Rebolledo,Ramón; Aguilera,Alfonso.
A. superciliosus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), known as "cabrito del maitén" (CM) among other names, is an important pest affecting fruit-bearing bushes in southern and central southern Chile. One means of control is the use of organically synthesized insecticides that target the adult, the application of which generally is disadvantageous because these insecticides have long-lasting residual effects and because spraying coincides with flowering and the harvest of the fruit. To complement other pesticides that are more degradable and selective and less harmful to the environment, this work studied the effect of an infusion of canelo buds (Drimys winteri) with leaves and stems of bitter lupin (Lupinus albus) on CM adults. The research evaluated mortality,...
