The economic importance of small tomato fruits has been increased considerably due to the significant levels of lycopene and sugars. However, to achieve these compounds, the harvest is limited to a ripening stage demanded by consumers, which could reduce this marked period. Harvesting at an early stage and use of conservation techniques are desirable to amplify the marketing period. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of small tomato fruits, Sweet Grape cultivar, harvested at two stages of ripening (light red and red), kept in three types of package (perforated PET, PEBD 30 μ and Vegetal Pack 18 μ) at a temperature of 20±1ºC and a relative humidity (RH) of 85±5% during 20 days. During this period, gas composition inside the packaging (O2, CO2... |

This paper reviews a selection of nine indicators for assessing the biological state of a fish population monitored only by using trawl surveys in which catchability is assumed constant from time to time and place to place. The intention is to inform or remind of the range of possibilities and of associated practical and statistical issues. The indicators, grouped according to relationships with abundance, length, age, weight, and reproduction, are documented in a standard format covering estimation, interpretability, sensitivity, considerations for reference points where possible, and an example of their application. Lastly, selected indicators together with year-class curves fitted to abundance indices-at-age are applied to the North Sea cod to... |

Abstract: Studies on the maturation of mangoes in growing regions may help determine the optimal harvest strategies to support proper post-harvest handling and improve the fruit shelf life. The aim of the present study is to evaluate changes and establish correlations of physical and mechanical parameters during the ripening of mangoes cv. 'Tommy Atkins' collected from fifty plant rows in a commercial orchard. The fruits were picked at 35, 50, 65, 80, 95, 110, 125 and 135 days after flowering (DAF). Fruit mass, longitudinal diameter (LD), transverse diameter (TD), fruit firmness, force and maximum deformation compression, tension and Hencky's strain were evaluated. The statistical design was totally randomized with four replications with ten fruits each.... |
