Nymphal and Adult Performance of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), as a Potential Alternative Host for Egg Parasitoids Multiplication Neotropical Entomology
PERES,WILSIMAR A.A.; CORRÊA-FERREIRA,BEATRIZ S..
This research aimed to evaluate the potential of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) as host for multiplication of egg parasitoids, by determining the nymphal and adult performance of E. heros from laboratory and the field, comparing with Nezara viridula (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), under mass conditions. One hundred eggs of E. heros and N. viridula were placed among the leaves of soybean plants contained in cages (50x50x70 cm) and observation were made until adult emergence. The nymphs fed on soybean pods, dry soybean and peanuts seeds. The number of nymphs that reached adulthood and the development time were calculated. The survivorship and reproduction performance of laboratory and field populations of E. heros and N. viridula were...

Euschistus heros mass rearing technique for the multiplication of Telenomus podisi PAB
Silva,Cleonor Cavalcante; Laumann,Raul Alberto; Blassioli,Maria Carolina; Pareja,Martin; Borges,Miguel.
The objective of this work was to improve the mass rearing technique of Euschistus heros in laboratory. Nymphs and adults were reared at densities 100, 200, 300 and 400 eggs per Petri dish (9 cm diameter), and at 50, 100, 150 and 200 couples per rearing cages (900 mL), respectively. Survival rate of immature stages and survivorship and reproduction of adults were determinated. Survivorship of nymph to adult was the highest (89%) at density 100 eggs per dish. Adult survivorship was independent of density, and 100 couples per cage were the best to improve quality of the produced progeny. In these conditions, fecundity was 160.8±9.28 eggs per female, and a total of 8,950±456 eggs per cage per month was produced. Two hundred couples per cage showed a negative...

Sequential sampling of Euschistus heros (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in soybean Scientia Agricola
Souza,Leandro Aparecido de; Barbosa,José Carlos; Grigolli,José Fernando Jurca; Fraga,Diego Felisbino; Moraes,Lílian Cristina; Busoli,Antonio Carlos.
Integrated pest management programs for soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) must be based on efficient sampling plans for estimating the pest population. Based on the spatial distribution of the Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros (Fabricius, 1794) found on soybean, it was possible to construct a sequential sampling plan for the survey of this insect found on soybean. The experiment was carried out during two growing seasons, 2010/2011 and 2011/2012, using the transgenic soybean cultivar M 7908 RR, in plots of 10,000 m² subdivided into 100 plots of 100 m² (10 m × 10 m). Nymphs > 0.5 cm (4th and 5th instars) plus adults were counted weekly from five drop cloth technique samplings per plot. To evaluate insect dispersion in the area, the following...

Diapause and different seasonal morphs of Euschistus heros (Fabr.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Northern Paraná State Anais da SEB
Mourão,Ana P. M.; Panizzi,Antônio R..
The Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Fabr.), was collected on sunflower [Helianthus annuus (L.)], soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill], star bristle [Acanthospermum hispidum (DC.)], and under fallen leaves of mango tree [Mangifera indica (L.)] and privet (Ligustrum lucidum Ait.), during one year, to evaluate the diapause incidence and the occurrence of different seasonal morphs. The majority of the insects (ca. 90%) with mature reproductive organs was observed during the summer (December-March), when E. heros was found on soybean or on sunflower; in the beginning of autumn, most insects (87%) showed immature reproductive organs, and they were found on star bristle and under fallen leaves. Bugs with mature reproductive organs had more developed...

Sampling grids for monitoring Euschistus heros infestation in soybean Bragantia
Pias,Osmar Henrique de Castro; Cherubin,Maurício Roberto; Berghetti,Juliano; Kuss,Cassiano Carlos; Santi,Antônio Luis; Basso,Claudir José.
ABSTRACT Euschistus heros is one the most important pest insect in soybean fields in Brazil. Therefore, site-specific management applied for controlling E. heros can result in economic and environmental benefits. However, sampling protocols for assessing spatialtemporal variability of this soybean pest and, then, for guiding a more sustainable pest management, were still unknown. Thus, the objective of this study was to compare the efficiency of sampling grid sizes for monitoring the spatial variability of E. heros infestation along the soybean reproductive stages. Nine sampling campaigns were carried out using the beating sheet method, from R2 to R7 soybean phenological stages. It was used a sampling grid of 10 × 10 m, totaling 338 points in an soybean...
