Four decades after Belton: a review of records and evidences on the avifauna of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Franz,Ismael; Agne,Carlos Eduardo; Bencke,Glayson Ariel; Bugoni,Leandro; Dias,Rafael Antunes.
ABSTRACT We present a new update of the list of birds of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, based on a thorough review of new records and evidences accumulated from February 2011 to July 2017. This is the fifth update since the first compilation based on a reasonably complete geographic coverage of the state, published by William Belton in 1978, and the second produced by a regional (informal) committee. It is also the first to widely use citizen science contributions available on shared portals and digital databases on the internet. Forty-three taxa were added, resulting in a final list with 704 species, 6.5% more than in the previous assessment in 2010. Two species were replaced due to taxonomic changes. Documentation for inclusions based on...

Occurrence of Cymbasoma longispinosum Bourne, 1890 (Copepoda: Monstrilloida) in the Curuçá River estuary (Amazon Littoral) Anais da ABC (AABC)
Leite,Natália R.; Pereira,Luci C.C.; Abrunhosa,Fernando; Pires,Marcus A.B.; Costa,Rauquírio M. da.
The present work was carried out to verify the occurrence and distribution of Cymbasoma longispinosum Bourne, 1890 in a tropical Amazon estuary from North Brazil. Samplings were performed bimonthly from July/2003 to July/2004 at two different transects (Muriá and Curuçá rivers) situated along the Curuçá estuary (Pará, North Brazil). Samples were collected during neap tides via gentle (1 to 1.5 knots) 200 μm-mesh net tows from a small boat. Additional subsurface water samples were collected for the determination of environmental parameters. Males and females of Cymbasoma longispinosum were only observed during September and November/2003. The highest number of organisms was found in September/2003 at the Muriá River transect. The presence of C....

Glyceridae Grube 1850 (Annelida: Polychaeta) from Southern and Southeastern Brazil, including a new species of Glycera Biota Neotropica
Rizzo,Alexandra Elaine; Steiner,Tatiana Menchini; Amaral,Antonia Cecília Zacagnini.
This systematic study of the polychaete species of the family Glyceridae is part of a broader program to inventory and determine parameters for conservation and sustainable use of the marine biodiversity off the southeastern and southern coast of Brazil. The material studied was collected from intertidal sandy beaches, the inner continental shelf (<50 m depth) off the northern coast of the state of São Paulo, and the outer continental shelf and part of the continental slope (depths from 60 to 808 m) off the state of Rio de Janeiro south to Rio Grande do Sul (22° S - 34° 40' S). The descriptions of several species were improved, adding new and important taxonomic characters, mainly related to proboscideal papillae. A key for identification of the...

Occurrence of Euchaeta paraconcinna Fleminger, 1957 (Crustacea, Copepoda, Calanoida) in a coastal area of Bahia State, northeastern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Dias,Cristina de Oliveira; Bonecker,Sérgio Luiz Costa.
The calanoid copepod Euchaeta paraconcinna Fleminger, 1957 is reported from Camamu Bay, state of Bahia, northeastern Brazil (14º02'49"S; 38º52'58"W). Three females were collected by vertical hauls with a plankton net of 200 µm mesh size. This is a new record for this species in northeastern Brazil.

New records of Monstrilloida Sars, 1901 (Crustacea, Copepoda) on the Brazilian northeastern coast Biota Neotropica
Dias,Cristina de Oliveira; Bonecker,Sérgio Luiz Costa.
During a series of zooplankton surveys carried out from 2001 through 2005 off the coast of the state of Bahia, Brazil, 98 individuals of monstrilloid copepods were collected. These belong to five species (Monstrilla grandis, Cymbasoma cf. longispinosum, Cymbasoma cf. rigidum, Cymbasoma gracilis, and Cymbasoma quadridens). The first three are recorded for the first time in the Bahia coastal region. The geographical range of C. quadridens is expanded to the Brazilian northeastern coast. The results presented herein increase to nine the number of nominal species of Monstrilloida known from off Bahia; the environmental diversity of Caravelas Channel with highly productive areas and coral reef zones harbor an abundant and diverse monstrilloid fauna that should...
