Gorgoso-Varela,José Javier; Oliveira-Prendes,José Alberto; Afif-Khouri,Elías; Palencia,Pedro.
Abstract Characterization of forage biomass in pasture land is complicated by the temporal and spatial variability that result from variation in vegetation patch sizes. These factors along with topography, water location and distribution of fertilizer result in non-uniform grass. The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of the three-parameter Weibull distribution to describe aerial dry matter (DM) production in the first harvest of a mixture of three Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) cultivars (the tetraploid ‘Jivet’ and ‘Barspirit’, and the diploid ’Barprisma’) in Asturias (N Spain). The trial was established in a randomized complete block design with three blocks of 100 m2 (20 m x 5 m) and a fertilizer treatment with three levels (0, 40 and...

Corn grain yield and 15N-fertilizer recovery as a function of urea sidedress timing Anais da ABC (AABC)
SCHONINGER,EVANDRO L.; VILLALBA,HUGO A. GONZÁLEZ; BENDASSOLLI,JOSÉ ALBERTINO; TRIVELIN,PAULO CESAR O..
Abstract Best fertilizer management practices such as adopting the right N sidedress timing can reduce N losses by volatilization, thus, raising N-fertilizer recovery and grain yield. To evaluate ammonia (N-NH3 ) losses, N-fertilizer recovery and grain yield as a function of urea sidedress timing in corn, a field study was conducted during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 growing seasons, adopting a complete randomized block design with four replications. Treatments consisted of urea sidedress timing (140 kg N ha-1) at V4, V6, V8, V10, and V12 growth stages, plus a control without sidedress N. The largest N losses by N-NH3 volatilization occurred when urea was applied at V10 or V12 growth stages, reaching losses of 35 and 41 % of the total applied N. Although...

Fate of 15N-urea applied to wheat-soybean succession crop Bragantia
Boaretto,Antonio Enedi; Spolidorio,Eduardo Scarpari; Freitas,José Guilherme de; Trivelin,Paulo Cesar Ocheuze; Muraoka,Takashi; Cantarella,Heitor.
The wheat crop in São Paulo State, Brazil, is fertilized with N, P and K. The rate of applied N (0 to 120 kg.ha-1) depends on the previous grown crop and the irrigation possibility. The response of wheat to rates and time of N application and the fate of N applied to irrigated wheat were studied during two years. Residual N recovery by soybean grown after the wheat was also studied. The maximum grain productivity was obtained with 92 kg.ha-1 of N. The efficiency of 15N-urea utilization ranged from 52% to 85%. The main loss of applied 15N, 5% to 12% occurred as ammonia volatilized from urea applied on soil surface. The N loss by leaching even at the N rate of 135 kg.ha-1, was less than 1% of applied 15N, due to the low amount of rainfall during the wheat...

Aspects of nitrogen metabolism in coffee plants Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Carelli,Maria Luiza Carvalho; Fahl,Joel Irineu; Ramalho,José D. Cochicho.
Coffee plants are highly N-demanding plants. Despite the importance of N nutrition for the development, acclimation and yield of coffee plants, there are few reports concerning N metabolism in this species. In this review, our intention is to summarize the information available in the literature and to point out the influence of environmental conditions on N assimilation, as well as comment and discuss some apparently contradictory results and raise and enlighten queries about N assimilation in coffee plants.
