First record of Lonchophylla bokermanni (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) for the Caatinga biome Mastozool. neotrop.
Cláudio,Vinícius C; Silveira,Gustavo C; Farias,Solange G; Maas,Andrea S; Oliveira,Marcione B; Lapenta,Marina J; Alvarez,Martín R; Dias,Daniela; Moratelli,Ricardo.
Lonchophylla bokermanni is known from three localities in the southern portion of the Serra do Espinhaço, all located in the Cerrado of Minas Gerais. Based on recent material from two localities in the Caatinga of Bahia, northeastern Brazil, we report the species occurrence in the northern portion of Serra do Espinhaço. These new records extend the species distribution by more than 840 km and represent the first records of L. bokermanni in the Caatinga biome. The localities we report here are under severe anthropic pressure, and this distribution extension should not inhibit conservation efforts for the species.

Effects of tourist visitation and supplementary feeding on fish assemblage composition on a tropical reef in the Southwestern Atlantic Neotropical Ichthyology
Ilarri,Martina Di Iulio; Souza,Allan Tainá de; Medeiros,Paulo Roberto de; Grempel,Renato Grotta; Rosa,Ierecê Maria de Lucena.
The effects of tourist visitation and food provisioning on fish assemblages were assessed by visual censuses (stationary technique) carried out in a tropical reef in Northeastern Brazil. Comparisons of species abundance, richness, equitability, and trophic structure in the presence (PT) and absence (AT) of tourists suggest that tourist visitation and supplementary food influenced the structure of the fish assemblage, as follows: (a) diversity, equitability and species richness were significantly higher on the AT period, while the abundance of a particular species was significantly higher during PT; (b) trophic structure differed between the AT and PT periods, omnivores being more abundant during the latter period, while mobile invertivores, piscivores,...

Modelling the spatial dependence of the rainfall erosivity index in the Brazilian semiarid region PAB
Almeida,André Quintão de; Souza,Rodolfo Marcondes Silva; Loureiro,Diego Campana; Pereira,Donizete dos Reis; Cruz,Marcus Aurélio Soares; Vieira,Jodnes Sobreira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to model the spatial dependence and to map the rainfall erosivity index (EI30) in the semiarid region of Brazil. Registers of monthly erosivity from 210 rainfall stations were used, with daily time series equal to or greater than 15 years. Based on the values of the EI30, a spatial dependence model was made by adjusting the semivariogram. From the semivariogram models, erosivity isoline maps were generated with a kriging interpolator. According to the historical data series, the maximum monthly average value of the EI30 was observed in March, and the annual value ranged from 1,439 to 5,864 MJ mm ha-1 per year, classified as low and moderate, respectively. The highest EI30 values were obtained in the northern and...

Perilestes eustaquioi sp. nov. and new distributional records of Perilestidae (Odonata) in Brazil Rev. Bras. Zool.
Machado,Angelo B. M..
ABSTRACT Perilestes eustaquioi sp. nov. (holotype male deposited in ABMM collection) from the state of Bahia (municipality of Una), northeastern Brazil, is described and illustrated based on one male specimen. It differs from the other species of the genus mainly by the larger size of the anteclypeus in relations to the postclypeus. Together with P. fragilis Hagen in Selys, 1862 from the state of Sergipe and P. solutus Williamson & Williamson, 1924 from the state of Ceará, these are the first records of Perilestidae from northeastern Brazil.

Latitudinal disparity in the reproductive cycle of sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Elasmobranchii: Carcharhinidae), in Atlantic waters off South America Rev. Bras. Zool.
Macedo,Morgana M.; Sousa,Marcia F.; Batista,Vandick S..
Geographical variation in biophysical conditions may strongly influence the life history characteristics of widely distributed species, such as the Brazilian sharpnose shark, Rhizoprionodon lalandii (Müller & Henle, 1839). Here, we use original and secondary data of reproductive traits of R. lalandii to identify population differences among northern/northeastern and southern Atlantic waters of South America. In the southeast region, birth occurs between December and March, and the young become frequent along the coast between April and September. Mating occurs mainly between March and June, when females with bite marks are common. Females in early pregnancy occur between March and September. The reproductive cycle of R. lalandii in the...
