Nitrogen content, SPAD index and production of single head broccoli Horticultura Brasileira
Vidigal,Sanzio M; Puiatti,Mário; Lopes,Iza Paula de C; Sediyama,Maria Aparecida N.
ABSTRACT In the management of single head broccoli nitrogen fertilization, there is no study indicating the critical level and adequate range of N content and SPAD index in the leaves to evaluate the nitrogen nutritional status. This work was carried out in two consecutive years with control without N and three rates of N (150; 300 and 450 kg ha-1). The treatments were arranged in the experimental design of random blocks, with four replications. All productive characteristics were significantly influenced by N rates. The fresh inflorescence mass reached a maximum value of 822 g with 308 kg ha-1 N. The critical levels were 61.1 g kg-1 for total N foliar content and 71.31 ud SPAD at 40 DAT. The SPAD index presented high correlations with the total N content...

Recommendation of soil fertility levels for willow in the southern highlands of Santa Catarina Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Rech,Tássio Dresch; Zanette,Flávio; Zanatta,João Claudio; Nuernberg,Névio João; Brandes,Dieter.
The species Salix x rubens is being grown on the Southern Plateau of Santa Catarina since the 1940s, but so far the soil fertility requirements of the crop have not been assessed. This study is the first to evaluate the production profile of willow plantations in this region, based on the modified method of Summer & Farina (1986), for the recommendation of fertility levels for willow. By this method, based on the law of Minimum and of Maximum for willow production for the conditions on the Southern Plateau of Santa Catarina, the following ranges could be recommended: pH: 5.0-6.5; P: 12-89 mg dm-3; Mg: 3.2-7.5 mg; Zn: 5.0-8.3 mg dm-3; Cu: 0.8-4.6 mg dm-3; and Mn; 20-164 mg dm-3. The Ca/Mg ratio should be between 1.2 and 2.9. For K and Ca only the...

Diagnosis and recommendation integrated system (DRIS) of soybean seed oil content Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Castamann,Alfredo; Escosteguy,Pedro Alexandre Varella; Berres,Diego; Zanella,Silas.
The Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) can improve interpretations of leaf analysis to determine the nutrient status. Diagnoses by this method require DRIS norms, which are however not known for oil content of soybean seeds. The aims of this study were to establish and test the DRIS method for oil content of soybean seed (maturity group II cultivars). Soybean leaves (207 samples) in the full flowering stage were analyzed for macro and micro-nutrients, and the DRIS was applied to assess the relationship between nutrient ratios and the seed oil content. Samples from experimental and farm field sites of the southernmost Brazilian state Rio Grande do Sul (28° - 29° southern latitude; 52° -53° western longitude) were assessed in two growing...

Relationships between soil class and nutritional status of coffee plantations Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Wadt,Paulo Guilherme Salvador.
Farm planning requires an assessment of the soil class. Research suggest that the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) has the capacity to evaluate the nutritional status of coffee plantations, regardless of environmental conditions. Additionally, the use of DRIS could reduce the costs for farm planning. This study evaluated the relationship between the soil class and nutritional status of coffee plants (Coffea canephora Pierre) using the Critical Level (CL) and DRIS methods, based on two multivariate statistical methods (discriminant and multidimensional scaling analyses). During three consecutive years, yield and foliar concentration of nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Zn, Mn, Fe and Cu) were obtained from coffee plantations cultivated...

LEAF TOTAL NITROGEN CONCENTRATION AS AN INDICATOR OF NITROGEN STATUS FOR PLANTLETS AND YOUNG PLANTS OF EUCALYPTUS CLONES Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Ferreira,Eric Victor de Oliveira; Novais,Roberto Ferreira; Médice,Bruna Maximiano; Barros,Nairam Félix de; Silva,Ivo Ribeiro.
The use of leaf total nitrogen concentration as an indicator for nutritional diagnosis has some limitations. The objective of this study was to determine the reliability of total N concentration as an indicator of N status for eucalyptus clones, and to compare it with alternative indicators. A greenhouse experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design in a 2 × 6 factorial arrangement with plantlets of two eucalyptus clones (140 days old) and six levels of N in the nutrient solution. In addition, a field experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 factorial arrangement, consisting of two seasons, two regions, two young clones (approximately two years old), and three positions of crown leaf sampling. The...

Mineral nutrition evolution in the formation of fruit tree rootstocks and seedlings Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Natale,William; Lima Neto,Antonio João de; Rozane,Danilo Eduardo; Parent,Léon Etienne; Corrêa,Márcio Cleber de Medeiros.
Abstract The importance of mineral nutrition to the various plant species has been recognized for many years. Since nutrients are directly linked to physiological and metabolic processes, they promote the growth of rootstocks and seedlings, contributing to the formation of more productive orchards. As a consequence of the lack of technical information for most fruit trees, fertilization in nurseries has still been carried out empirically, sometimes underestimating or overestimating nutritional requirements and compromising the quality of plants produced. Given the importance of mineral nutrition in the formation of high-quality seedlings and the lack of scientific information on the topic, the aim of the present review was to raise interest in further...

Identification of ‘Prata anã’ banana leaf to diagnose the level of phosphorus sufficiency Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,José Tadeu Alves da; Rodrigues,Maria Geralda Vilela.
Abstract The aim of this study was to identify the leaf and its part with greater sensitivity to detect P variation in the ‘Prata anã’ banana plant. The experiment was carried out in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, in a clayey Oxisol. A randomized complete block design was used, with six P doses (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 g family-1 year-1 of P2O5) and four replications. In the plants beginning the emission of the bunch in the first, second and third cycle of the banana tree, the 3rd and the 7th leaves were collected from the apex, from where 10 cm of the center of the limbs were removed, eliminating the midrib, 10 cm of the petiole and 10 cm from the midrib and 10 cm from the 1 leaf limbs. The midrib of the third leaf showed greater sensitivity to detect...
