| - The AMBIO project conducted a comprehensive video-based baseline assessment of coral reef fish communities and associated habitats in the New Caledonian lagoons. The survey relies on remote unbaited underwater video observations, using the STAVIRO rotating technique. - The study pertains to the reefs of Astrolabe, Pétrie and Walpole Island, located within the Coral Sea Natural Park. The survey conducted in 2014 covers the entire area, and the sampling design was stratified according to reef type. 95 stations were validated. They were analyzed to characterize the habitat surrounding each station, and fish communities, based on a list of 565 fish species (cf. | Marine Protected Areas (MPA) have turned to be a privileged tool for sustainable management of coastal areas and associated activities. But MPA's results for biodiversity and sustainable fisheries have to be assessed. That is the aim of PAMPA project, which is built on the experience of 7 French MPAs in the Mediterranean sea and in the overseas territories. In this PAMPA project, Ifremer Océan Indien has mainly been involved in the analysis of fisheries data and opinion surveys, conducted from July to October 2010, towards fishermen on board around the coral reef. About sixty fishermen have been interviewed. Only two of them denied answering. Recreational fishers are "local people", about forty or fifty years old, regularly at sea, but without fishing... |

| • In order to assess the sustainability of fish resources in the Natural Marine Park of Mayotte (Western Indian Ocean), indicators and monitoring protocols must be determined. • This study relied on the underwater video technique STAVIRO for assessing fish communities and resources. A pilot survey was conducted in Nov. 2014 in the south-east quarter of the Mayotte lagoon, an area encompassing the marine reserves of Longogori, M’Bouzi and the Saziley Marine Park.
