Contratos de opção: análise do potencial de sustentação de preços para o mercado de arroz AgEcon
Adami, Andreia Cristina de Oliveira; Barros, Geraldo Sant'Ana de Camargo; Bacchi, Mirian Rumenos Piedade.
An economic model was developed to analyze the put option contract role to stabilize prices in the paddy market. The possibility of using Federal Government Acquisitions (AGF) to complement the option instrument was considered. The role of the options was to reduce the risks of storing the product for later sale. The model is applied to analyze the option instrument implementation in the 2004/05 season. A two week demand for rice was estimated for the Brazilian market. The results show that the market prices go up when the government acts through the AGF. The options serve the purpose of making prices follow a compatible path. It was estimated that the probability for the option owners exercise their options is greater when the AGF are not used. One can...

Returning Winter Cover Crop Residue Influences Soil Aggregation and Humic Substances under Double-cropped Rice Fields Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Tang,Haiming; Xiao,Xiaoping; Tang,Wenguang; Wang,Ke; Li,Chao; Cheng,Kaikai.
ABSTRACT Residue management in cropping systems may improve soil quality. However, there are few studies on the effects of residue management on soil aggregation and carbon content in the humin (C-HUM), humic acid (C-HAF) and fulvic acid (C-FAF) fractions in South China. Therefore, the effects on soil aggregation and on the C-HUM, C-HAF, C-FAF from incorporating winter cover crop residues in a double-cropped rice (Oryza sativa L.) system in South China fields were studied. The experiment has been conducted since winter 2004. Five winter cropping systems were used: rice-rice-ryegrass (Ry-R-R), rice-rice-Chinese milk vetch (Mv-R-R), rice-rice-potato (Po-R-R), rice-rice-rape (Ra-R-R) and rice-rice with winter fallow (Fa-R-R). The results indicated that the...

Comparative study between ANN and master curve technique for the thin layer drying kinetic study of paddy and modeling of its critical drying temperature by using ANN-PSO approach CIGR Journal
Chakraborty, Sourav; Sarma, Mousumi; Bora, Jinku; Faisal, Shah; Hazarika, Manuj Kumar.
Abstract: Thin layer drying kinetic analysis of paddy dried under low temperature conditions (20-40°C), was carried out by using six different types of models. Among which, Midilli model showed best fitted result with highest R2 and lowest RMSE and SSE values. It was observed that the drying rate constant k increased with the increase in drying temperature. For finding the effect of temperature, Midilli model was generalized by using two approaches namely globalization of drying rate constant and master curve technique. Master curve technique gave better fit with a R2 value of 0.998 than the global drying constant model. ANN modeling was also used to find out proper drying kinetics of paddy. Best architecture for the ANN modeling was 2-55-1, which showed...

An edge texture features based methodology for bulk paddy variety recognition CIGR Journal
Anami, Basavaraj S; Malvade, Naveen Nagendrappa; Hanamaratti, N G.
The paper presents a method for recognition of paddy varieties from their bulk grain sample edge images based on Haralick texture features extracted from grey level co-occurrence matrices. The edge images were obtained using Canny and maximum gradient edge detection methods. The average paddy variety recognition performances of the two categories of edge images were evaluated and compared. A feature set of thirteen texture features was considered and the feature set was reduced based on contribution of each feature to the paddy variety recognition accuracy. The average paddy variety recognition accuracy of 87.80% was obtained for the reduced eight texture features extracted from maximum gradient edge images. The work is useful in developing a machine...

Comparison of rotary dryer with conventional fixed bed dryer for paddy drying, milling quality and energy consumption CIGR Journal
Gazor, Dr. Hamid Reza; Alizadeh, Mohammad Reza.
Operation of a rotary dyer (RD) was compared with conventional fixed bed dryer (FBD). Drying time, trends of moisture content and specific energy consumption for water evaporation were investigated for drying of Iranian paddy cultivar., rice milling quality such as husking, milling recovery (MR) and head rice yield (HRY), were studied. Result showed that, using FBD decreased drying time and saved energy 8 and 6.78 percent, respectively. Specific energy consumption in NRD was 10.48 MJ per one kilogram of removed water and it was 6.82 percent more than FBD.  Paddy moisture contents and temperatures differences at top and bottom layers of FBD were 2 percent and 6°C, respectively. High thermal stress in low layers of FBD increased grains cracking chance in...

Modeling and optimization of drying process of paddy in infrared and warm air fluidized bed dryer CIGR Journal
pourbagher, roghayeh; rohani, abbas; rahmati, Mohammad Hashem; Abbaspour-Fard, Mohammad Hossein.
This paper investigated the effect of the components of fluidized bed dryer with two thermal sources of heater and infrared such as air temperature at three levels (40, 50 and 60°C) equivalent to radiation intensity of 0.031, 0.042 and 0.053 W.cm-3 in infrared dryer, final moisture content of dried Tarom and Shirudi varieties at three levels (8-9%, 9-10% and 10-11% (d.b.)) and air velocity of 4.5 ms-1 on the milling characteristic and drying time. To this end, stepwise regression was used for selecting the best models for each dependent variable in terms of the independent variables and genetic algorithm was used for optimizing the parameters of dryer with simultaneous consideration of cracked and fractured grains, milling recovery, degree of milling and...

Detection of fumonisin producing Fusarium verticillioides in paddy (Oryza sativa L.) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) BJM
Maheshwar,P.K.; Moharram,S. Ahmed; Janardhana,G.R..
The study reports the occurrence of fumonisin producing Fusarium verticillioides in 90 samples of stored paddy (Oryza sativa L.)collected from different geographical regions ofKarnataka, India. Fumonisin producing F. verticillioides was identified based on micromorphological characteristics and PCR using two sets of primers. One set of primers was F. verticillioides species specific, which selectively amplified the intergenic space region of rDNA. The other set of primers was specific to fumonisin producing F. verticillioides. Eight paddy samples were positive for F. verticillioides. Eleven isolates obtained from these samples were capable of producing fumonisin.
