Unseen sentinels: local monitoring and control in conservation’s blind spots Ecology and Society

Although official on-the-ground environmental monitoring is absent over much of the world, many people living in these regions observe, manage, and protect their environment. The autonomous monitoring processes associated with these activities are seldom documented and appear poorly recognized by conservation professionals. We identified monitoring activities in three villages in the Mamberamo-Foja region (Mamberamo Regency) of Papua (Indonesian New Guinea). In each village we found evidence that local monitoring contributes to effective protection and deters unregulated exploitation. Revison of the Euagathis species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Agathidinae) from Wallacea and Papua Naturalis

The species of the genus Euagathis Szépligeti, 1900 (Braconidae: Agathidinae) from Wallacea and Papua (including Northeast Australia and Solomon Islands) are revised and keyed. Thirty-three species are recognized, of which 11 are new: Euagathis brevitibialis spec. nov. from Papua New Guinea; E. dejongi spec. nov. from Indonesia (Sulawesi); E. fuscistigma spec. nov. from Papua New Guinea; E. kendariensis spec. nov. from Indonesia (Sulawesi); E. maculata spec. nov. from Papua New Guinea; E. mellifacies spec. nov. from Papua New Guinea (Bougainville Island); E. mellisoma spec. nov. from Indonesia (Papua); E. minutoides spec. nov. from Indonesia (Sulawesi); E. novabritanica spec. nov. from Papua New Guinea (New Britain); E. raymondi spec. nov. from Indonesia...

Two new dragonfly species from Yapen and Biak, Papua (Irian Jaya), Indonesia (Odonata) Naturalis

During fieldwork on the island of Yapen (Indonesia, Papua (Irian Jaya)), conducted in July 2006, several undescribed species of Odonata were collected. Two of these are described based on material from Yapen and Biak (Papua (Irian Jaya), Indonesia): Teinobasis sjupp spec. nov. (type locality: Yapen Island) and Macromia holthuisi spec. nov. (type locality: Biak Island).

Pandanaceae of the island of Yapen, Papua (West New Guinea), Indonesia, with their nomenclature and notes on the rediscovery of Sararanga sinuosa, and several new species and records Naturalis

Eleven species of Pandanaceae are recorded for Yapen Island, Papua, Indonesia, seven of Pandanus, three of Freycinetia, including two new ones, and the rediscovery of Sararanga sinuosa. Except for the latter all others are new records for the island.
