| The reproductive biology of Aegla caslro Schmitt, 1942 from Buraco do Padre, Ponta Grossa, Paraná State, was analyzed. The sampling was done monthly, from February/97 to January/98 with aid of hand net and screens at three stations, under an effort of 120 minutes. The mean air temperature ranged from 15.0ºC (May, July, September and October) to 24.3ºC (December and January), and the water temperature from 15.8ºC (July) to 22.3ºC (December). The dissolved oxygen oscillated from 95.7% (March) to 100.2% saturation (August) and the pH from 6.1 (July) to 7.2 (September). | A study of the annual abundance fluctuation, temporal distribution and size composition of Aegla castro Schmitt, 1942 was carried out at the Buraco do Padre, Quebra-Perna River, Tibagi River Basin, in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, Paraná State. | A study of the population of the xanthid crab Pilumnus dasypodus Kingsley, 1879 from rocky shore at the Farol Isle (25º51'S and 48º32'W) was carried out in the following aspects: temporal and spatial distributions of density, annual fluctuation of the sex ratio, size composition of the population and reproductive activities of the species. Monthly, four leveis in relation to emmersion time within intertidal zone were sampled, from May/90 to April/91, but Pilumnus dasypodus was obtained only in the levels 2, 3 and 4. | Eight localities were selected as representative sites to survey the entomofauna of Paraná State, Brazil: 1) Antonina (Sapitanduva); 2) Sao José dos Pinhais (Serra do Mar); 3) Colombo (Embrapa); 4) Ponta Grossa (Vila Velha); 5) Telêmaco Borba (Reserva Biológica Klabin); 6) Jundiaí do Sul (Fazenda Monte Verde); 7) Guarapuava (Santa Clara) and 8) Fênix (Reserva de Vila Rica). | In addition to the Survey of the Entomological Fauna in Paraná State, the Sphingidae was studied in its ecological and faunistic aspects. The material was collected using one light trap installed in eight different sites of the State (Antonina, São José dos Pinhais, Colombo, Ponta Grossa, Telêmaco Borba, Jundiaí do Sul, Guarapuava, and Fênix), from October 1986 to September 1987. A total of 813 specimens and 55 species was captured. The highest values of diversity (Brillouin and Shannon) was observed in São José dos Pinhais and Jundiaí do Sul; the highest values of evenness (Berger & Parker, and Simpson) in São José dos Pinhais and Antonina. | The Serra da Graciosa region includes important occurrences of granites and syenites of the Graciosa A-type Province (formerly Serra do Mar Suite), southern Brazil. Using fieldwork, petrography, and remote sensing imagery, we characterize the geology of the plutons in the region. Five individual plutons were recognized. Two correspond to the previously defined Marumbi and Anhangava Plutons. We divide the former "Graciosa Pluton" into three new plutons: Capivari, Órgãos, and Farinha Seca. | The aim of this work was to verify the occurrence of bovine and swine cysticercosis in animals slaughtered at the Abatedouro Municipal de Sabáudia, Paraná State. The number of daily-abated animals, the number of animals with cysticercus and the number and location of the cysticercus in the animals in a period of twelve months were collected. From 1046 swines slaughtered none showed cysticercus, but 36/out of 389 bovines (9.3%) were contaminated. Head was the most parasited region, followed by heart, tongue and liver. The absence of contamination observed in swines and the low contamination of the bovines reinforce the efficiency of the control measures accomplished in Paraná State. |

| Twenty-two stream segments, representing the diverse types of environments in the mid-western region of the Paraná State, southern Brazil, were sampled for occurrence of macroalgal communities from May to October in 2002. Twenty-seven macroalgal taxa were found, with Chlorophyta as the dominant algal group, followed by Cyanobacteria, Rhodophyta and Chrysophyta. The most widespread species was Phormidium retzii. Distribution was patchy, with species number per sampling sites ranging from zero to six and correlated positively with the abundance. | The influence of tidal phase on bacteria abundance in surface waters was studied in five stations along the Perequê tidal creek (Paraná State, Brazil), at spring and neap low and high tides in July 1999. The stations were located from the mouth (St.1) to the creek's head (St. 5).
