Los aceites esenciales constituyen un grupo de productos promisorios como plaguicidas; aunque en Cuba representan una alternativa poco explorada como fuente de productos fitosanitarios y su futura aplicación requiere de la ejecución de investigaciones básicas sobre la química y actividad biológica de estos compuestos. Por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo fue establecer el efecto bacteriostático y/o bactericida del aceite de Piper marginatum Jacq. frente a Xanthomonas albilineans (Ashby) Dawson e identificar los componentes responsables de este efecto. In vitro effect of essential oils on Alternaria solani Sorauer Rev. Protección Veg.

The aim of this work was to determine the in vitro antifungal activity of ten essential oils on Alternaria solani SORAUER. The effect by direct contact and exposure to vapors was evaluated. The bioassays were performed using a completely randomized design and the method of paper discs inoculated with the oils facing phytopathogen discs; the fungal radial growth was evaluated. All the oils, except those from Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck (sweet orange), inhibited the mycelial growth until the seventh day. At day 14, a total inhibition was observed in the treatments with the oils from Pimpinella anisum L. (anise), Ocimum basilicum L. El uso de antimicrobianos de origen natural es una alternativa que está en vía de desarrollo y explotación y, dentro de ellos, los aceites esenciales tienen grandes potencialidades. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la composición química del aceite esencial de Piper marginatum Jacq. y evaluar su actividad antibacteriana y antifúngica frente a microorganismos de importancia en la esfera agrícola. El aceite esencial de P. marginatum se obtuvo por hidrodestilación empleando un equipo Clevenger. Ovicidal effect of the essential oils from 18 Brazilian Piper species: controlling Anticarsia gemmatalis (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) at the initial stage of development Agronomy

The toxicities of essential oils (EOs) from 18 species of Brazilian Piperaceae were assessed on eggs of the velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatalis. Oils were extracted using steam distillation, and dilutions were made for bioassays at concentrations of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0%. All EOs reduced larval hatching. The lowest lethal concentrations were obtained from Piper fuligineum (SP), Piper mollicomum “chemotype 1” (SP), Piper mosenii (PR), Piper aduncum (PA) and Piper marginatum (PA). Ovicidal activity is related to the potential toxicity of several compounds, especially dilapiolle, myristicin, asaricine, spathulenol and piperitone. ABSTRACT Tibraca limbativentris to is an important rice pest and occurs in all rice-growing regions of Latin America.
