Putative resistance genes in the CitEST database Genet. Mol. Biol.
Guidetti-Gonzalez,Simone; Carrer,Helaine.
Disease resistance in plants is usually associated with the activation of a wide variety of defense responses to prevent pathogen replication and/or movement. The ability of the host plant to recognize the pathogen and to activate defense responses is regulated by direct or indirect interaction between the products of plant resistance (R) and pathogen avirulence (Avr) genes. Attempted infection of plants by avirulent pathogens elicits a battery of defenses often followed by the collapse of the challenged host cells. Localized host cell death may help to prevent the pathogen from spreading to uninfected tissues, known as hypersensitive response (HR). When either the plant or the pathogen lacks its cognate gene, activation of the plant’s defense responses...

Genes associated with hypersensitive response (HR) in the citrus EST database (CitEST) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Guidetti-Gonzalez,Simone; Freitas-Astúa,Juliana; Amaral,Alexandre Morais do; Martins,Natália F.; Mehta,Angela; Silva,Marilia Santos; Carrer,Helaine.
Plants are continuously exposed to pathogen attack, but successful infection is rare because they protect themselves against pathogens using a wide range of response mechanisms. One of them is the hypersensitive response (HR), which is a form of cell death often associated with plant resistance to pathogen infection to prevent the spreadsebpg@cnpq.br sebpg@cnpq.br of the potential pathogen from infected to uninfected tissues. Cell death is activated by recognition of pathogen-derived molecules by the resistance (R) gene products, and is associated with the massive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), salicylic acid (SA), and other pro-death signals such as nitric oxide (NO). The analysis of the citrus EST (CitEST) database revealed the presence...

Genetic control of the angular leaf spot reaction in common bean leaves and pods Scientia Agricola
Borel,Jerônimo Constantino; Ramalho,Magno Antonio Patto; Abreu,Ângela de Fátima Barbosa; Maia,Lucas Gontijo Silva.
Information about genetic control of plant reaction to pathogens is essential in plant breeding programs focusing resistance. This study aimed to obtain information about genetic control of the angular leaf spot reaction in leaves and pods from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) line ESAL 686. This line was crossed with cultivars Jalo EEP 558 (resistant), Cornell 49-242 (resistant) and Carioca MG (susceptible). Generations F1, F2 and backcrosses (BC11 and BC21) were obtained. In the dry season (2009), parents and respective populations were evaluated for angular leaf spot reaction under field conditions. Disease severity was evaluated on leaves and pods using diagrammatic scales. Severity scores were obtained and mean and variance genetic components were...

การสืบค้นหาแหล่งพันธุกรรมความต้านทานโรคใบหงิกและโรคเขียวเตี้ยของข้าวป่าและข้าวปลูก เพื่อใช้ในการปรับปรุงพันธุ์ Thai Agricultural
Kanuengnij Srivilai; Witchuda Rattanakarn; Suniyom Taprap; Rogelio Cabunagan.
Total of 130 rice accessions from IRRI were tested for resistance to rice ragged stunt virus (RRSV) and rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV). The viruses were transmitted by brown planthopper (BPH) vector. Virus-carrying BPH was transferred to healthy seedlings in mylar cakes. Disease symptom was observed and scored at 30 days after inoculation. Viral infection was also detected by ELISA test. Visual score showed RRSV and RGSV infection ranged from 5.00-78.57% and 7.14-100%, respectively. The results correspond to that of ELISA test, but the ELISA test gave higher percentage of infection. Based on percentage of infection and disease index, 12 accessions were identified as resistance to RRSV; 37 accessions as moderately resistance; 25 accessions as tolerance. No...
