Growth of tomato seedlings in substrates containing a nanocomposite hydrogel with calcium montmorillonite (NC-MMt) Horticultura Brasileira
Melo,Raphael AC; Jorge,Marçal HA; Bortolin,Adriel; Boiteux,Leonardo S; Oliveira,Caue R; Marconcini,José M.
ABSTRACT The correct use of hydrogels in some situations can increase seedling survival rates, plant growth, and the water-retention capacity of the growing medium. A technique for the production of a nanocomposite hydrogel using calcium montmorillonite (NC-MMt) was recently developed. However, additional research is necessary in order to validate this innovative input, particularly for the production of vegetable crops seedlings. In this context, the main objective of the present study was to evaluate the growth and development of seedlings, tomato hybrid ‘BRS Nagai’, in substrates containing different amendments of hydrogel NC-MMt. The trial was conducted in a 3x3 factorial arranged in a complete randomized blocks design, with three replications. Three...

Production of shoots from ‘Smooth Cayenne’ pineapple crowns with nitrogen fertilization Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Silva,Aurilena de Aviz; Carvalho,Almy Junior Cordeiro de; Santos,Paulo Cesar dos; Freitas,Marta Simone Mendonça; Barbosa,Roberto Rivelino do Nascimento; Beltrame,Rômulo André.
Abstract Pineapple fruit crowns are rarely used as planting material in Brazil. However, they can be used to produce plantlet in situations of scarcity of planting material of adequate quality. The aim of this work was to evaluate the production and nutritional status of early shoots of different sizes produced from ‘Smooth Cayenne’ pineapple crowns with nitrogen fertilization after the removal of its apical meristem. The experimental design adopted was that of randomized blocks in a 4x4 factorial scheme, with four nitrogen doses (5, 10, 15 and 20 g of urea per pot), four minimum shoot lengths at harvesting (10, 15, 20 and 25 cm), with four replicates. Under full sun cultivation conditions, crowns produced 18.11 and 6.83 shoots with 10 and 25 cm in...

In vitro growth of sweet potato fed with potassium phosphite - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v34i1.10810 Agronomy
Hirosse, Edison Hitoshi; Universidade do Oeste Paulista - UNOESTE; Creste, José Eduardo; Universidade do Oeste Paulista - UNOESTE; Custódio, Ceci Castilho; Universidade do Oeste Paulista - UNOESTE; Machado-Neto, Nelson Barbosa; Universidade do Oeste Paulista - UNOESTE.
The main objective of this work was to verify the effect of the substitution of phosphate by its related compound phosphite on the in vitro growth of sweet potato nodal segments. Segments from a previous culture were incubated in MS media with the following combinations of  phosphate:phosphite: Control (100 / 0%); T1 (87.5 / 12.5%); T2 (75 / 25%); T3 (50 / 50%) and T4 (0 / 100%) in a 5 x 5 factorial arrangement, with five treatments (Control, T1, T2, T3 and T4) and five evaluation periods (7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days). The design was completely random, with three replicates of two explants per period. The evaluations were made weekly by counting the number of shoots and the length and dry weight of shoots and roots. Increasing the phosphite concentration...
