| Even in the absence of climate change, freshwater ecosystems and the resources they provide for people are under great pressure because of increasing demand for water and declines in water quality. The imminent onset of climate change will exacerbate these impacts, placing even greater pressure on already stressed resources and regions. | Ressalta-se a necessidade de ocupar espacos agricolas, em funcao do crescimento da populacao mundial e, particularmente, da regiao Centro-Oeste do pais. Sao descritas, superficialmente, as caracteristicas dos cerrados, com vantagem em relacao ao Norte e Nordeste; tambem sao apresentados os principais aspectos limitantes a sua ocupacao e utilizacao. | Adverse impacts of marine litter is documented on >1400 species, including marine megafauna (fish, birds, sea turtles and mammals). The primary impacts include ingestion and entanglement, and there is increasing concern about chemical contamination via ingestion.
