A sequential approach for improving AZODYN crop model under conventional and low-input conditions Organic Eprints
David, Christophe; Jeuffroy, Marie-Hélène.
Advances in scientific understanding of the plant and soil behaviour in a cultivated field led to the design of numerous soil-crop models simulating crop growth. The frequent low predictive quality of these models is linked to uncertainties in inputs, parameters and equations. The AZODYN crop model predicting wheat grain yield and grain protein content was previously developed to support decision for N management of conventional and organic wheat crops. This paper outlines a sequential approach to improve the predictions of the AZODYN model by testing various formalisms. This study is based on the comparison of 38 versions of the model assessed in multi-environment trials carried out under conventional or low-input conditions. This paper describes and...

Sjekk belgvekstenes egen nitrogenproduksjon Organic Eprints
Pommeresche, Reidun; Hansen, Sissel.
The symbiotic partnership between bacteria and legumes is vital for the supply of biologically fixed nitrogen to soil and plants in organic cropping systems. Perennial clovers in a dense grass clover ley may contribute more than 200 kg nitrogen (N) per ha and year to the cropping system from the second year after sowing. This technical note aims at encouraging farmers to take a closer look at the roots of legumes and become more familiar with the process of nitrogen fixation and its relevance for organic farming. The note provides some key information on biological nitrogen fixation and describes a simple method for examining nitrogen‐fixing root nodules.

THE EFFECT OF COMBINATIONS OF ORGANIC MATERIALS AND BIOFERTILISERS ON PRODUCTIVITY, GRAIN QUALITY, NUTRIENT UPTAKE AND ECONOMICS IN ORGANIC FARMING OF WHEAT Organic Eprints
Davari, Mohammadreza; Sharma, Shri Niwas; Mirzakhani, Mohammad.
Organic farming often has to deal with a scarcity of readily available nutrients, and this is in contrast to chemical farming which relies on soluble fertilisers. The present study was conducted to ascertain the effect of different combinations of organic manures, rice residues and biofertilisers in organic farming of wheat. The field experiments were carried out on the research farm of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Treatments consisted of a control (no fertiliser) and six fertiliser treatments, namely, farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost (VC), FYM + rice residue (RR), VC + RR, FYM + RR + biofertilisers (B), and VC + RR + B. FYM and VC were applied on nitrogen basis (60 kg ha-1), whereas RR was applied at...

Green manure and long-term fertilization effects on soil zinc and cadmium availability and uptake by wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at different growth stages Organic Eprints
Grüter, Roman; Costerousse, Benjamin; Bertoni, Angelina; Mayer, Jochen; Thonar, Cécile; Frossard, Emmanuel; Schulin, Rainer; Tandy, Susan.
Zinc (Zn) deficiency in human populations depending on cereals as a main source of Zn is a global malnutrition problem. In this field study, we investigated the potential of green manure application to increase soil Zn availability and wheat grain Zn concentrations (biofortification) on a Luvisol with different long-term fertilizer management. We also studied cadmium (Cd), as wheat is a major contributor of this undesired non-essential element to human diets. Clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.), mustard (Sinapis alba L.) or no green manure was grown on field plots which had been managed with farmyard manure or mineral fertilizers for 65 years in Switzerland. After green manure incorporation into the soil, spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was grown on all...

Stickstoffdüngewirkung und Stickstofftransfereffizienz von Düngemitteln auf Basis von Kleegrasbiomasse im Gefäßversuch mit Weidelgras (Lolium perenne) Organic Eprints
Benke, A.; Rieps, A.; Zikeli, Sabine; Möller, Kurt.
The aim of our research was to compare the N fertilizer value of different clover-grass (CG) based fertilizers. A pot trial was set up with 8 treatments with Lolium perenne: fresh CG, ensiled CG, compost from CG, solid manure and liquid manure from dairy cows fed with CG, biogas digestate, an unfertilized and a mineral fertilizer control. Our hypothesis was that compared to composting, and to other treatments (e.g. silage) biogas digestates allow for a more efficient N fertilization due to a lower C/N ratio and a higher share of NH4 +. Dry matter yield, C/N ratio, N concentration, N release and Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) were examined. The results show the highest overall NUE, N release and yield in the treatment with biogas digestate and the lowest...

Stickstoff und Schwefel im ökologischen Landbau. Praxis-Ratgeber für eine optimierte Versorgung von Ackerkulturen Organic Eprints
Leithold, Günter; Becker, Konstantin; Riffel, Alexandra; Schulz, Franz; Schmid-Eisert, Andreas; Brock, Christopher.

LeNiBa - N-Bilanz Leguminosen Organic Eprints
KTBL, e.V.; Informationssystem Integrierte Pflanzenproduktion, e.V..
