The Histological Differences of the Ureter in Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica) Compared With Some Other Domestic Avian Species International Journal of Morphology
Oliaii,Arash; Mobini,Behzad.
The aim of this investigation was to determine the histological differences of anatomical regions of the ureter in Japanese quail compared with some other domestic avian species such as pigeon, European starling and fowl. Tissue samples from proximal, middle and distal regions of each ureter were obtained and stained with H & E, Alcian blue (pH 2.5), Periodic acid-Schiff, Masson's trichrome, Verhoeff's, and Gomori's method for reticulum. The histology and histochemistry of the ureter showed considerable differences among various anatomical regions of the ureter. No significant sex-based differences were found. The primary branches of ureter were composed of tunica mucosa, submucosa, muscularis and serosa, whereas the wall of smaller branches of...

Selected approaches of variables weighting in frame of composite indicator analysis AgEcon
Hlavsa, Tomas.
Composite indicators are useful as tool for complex evaluation and aggregation of different variables of regional development. Variables which are aggregated in a composite indicator have first to be weighted. All variables may be given equal weights or they mea be given differing weights which reflect the significance, reliability or other characteristics of the underlying data. The weights given to different variables heavily influence the outcomes of the composite indicator. Aim of this paper is an evaluation of selected methods for weighting of particular variables in frame of composite indicator construction. Evaluation is verified on group of regional economic variables based on Strategy of regional development.

GYEPHASZNOSÍTÁS ÚJSZERŰ MODELLJE KÖZÉP-SZIGETKÖZBEN AgEcon
Horvath, Eszter.
A Szigetköz hidrológiai, biológiai, talajtani adottságainak tanulmányozása rávilágít arra, hogy a táj természeti adottságai kedveznek a gyepre alapozott ál-lati termék előállításnak. A gyepterületek továbbá lehetőséget nyújtanak újszerű felhasználásra is, hozzájárulva a fenntartható, környezettudatos, tájfenntartó mezőgazdálkodás megteremtéséhez. A vizsgálatok eredményeibe a gyepművelés formáját, a legeltetendő állatfaj igényeit és tartásmódját, a gyepgazdálkodás formáját, a tájegység...

ANÁLISE DA CAPACIDADE PRODUTIVA E DOS ÍNDICES DE CONCENTRAÇÃO, DISPERSÃO E VARIAÇÃO DA INDÚSTRIA DE BIODIESEL NO BRASIL AgEcon
Carminatti, Joao Guilherme De Oliveira; Bulhoes, Ronaldo; Nicola, Matheus Lazzari.

THE CUMULATIVE EFFECT OF RURAL AND REGIONAL RESIDENCE UPON THE HEALTH OF OLDER ADULTS AgEcon
Ziembroski, Jessica S.; Hauck, Erica L..
This article examines the independent and interactive effects of rural status and region of residence on health. Individual level factors related to poverty are also tested, in conjunction with rural and regional residence. Negative health effects of rurality were found only in the South, while positive health effects of rurality were found, but only in the Midwest. The results indicate a cumulative risk of rural and Southern residence for older men and women. Living in a rural place in the Midwestern United States may provide unique sources of health benefit as individuals age, which buffer previously observed rural risks to health overall. The findings are discussed in terms of health policy and interventions.

A BÚZA ÉS KUKORICA FEDEZETI TERMÉSÁTLAGÁNAK ALAKULÁSA MAGYARORSZÁGON AgEcon
Hollosy, Zsolt.
A termésát-lagok jelentősen ingadoznak. A termelés meghatározó régiói: Észak- és Dél-Alföld, Dél-Dunántúl. A fedezeti termésátlag évről évre növekedett. A vizsgált időszakban a búzát a fő régiókban támogatások nélkül is sikerült – jellemzően a 26 AK-nál jobb minőségű földeken – nyereségesen termelni. A búzatermelés egé-szére igaz, hogy a vizsgált területek mindegyikén eredménnyel termelhető, a mel-léktermék költségcsökkentő, valamint a támogatások jövedelemnövelő...

Agro-food chain: an innovative paradigm for food and rural policy analysis and agro-food chain segments’ systemic performance at regional level AgEcon
Samoggia, Antonella; Maccani, Paola; Marchi, Alan.
The food chain concept is an increasingly common theoretical instrument for food and rural development policy and many countries adopt the so-called “new rural paradigm”, so to integrate different sectoral policies. This paper aims at adopting the food chain paradigm in order to analyse the regional agro-food system and to sustain the design and delivery of consistent inter-sectoral policies. It adopts the netchain concept (Lazzarini et al, 2001) and the theory of governance patterns in global value chains (Gereffi et al, 2005). Results show this innovative approach contributes to better understand and stimulate economic performance of the whole agro-food network.

A Regional Decomposition Analysis of CO2 Emissions and Their Evolutions in China AgEcon
Dong, Fengxia; Lu, Jing; Du, Xiaodong.
CHINA is currently the world largest emitter of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2). Understanding the driving forces governing CO2 emission levels and their evolutions in China can provide useful information for policy makers who aim to reduce green house gas emissions. Because of policy and historical reasons, considerable regional growth and income disparities exist in China. The regional disparities may influence energy use and CO2 emissions. Therefore, this study is to investigate the driving forces governing CO2 emission levels and their evolutions at regional level in China.

FEEDLOT '99, PART I: BASELINE REFERENCE OF FEEDLOT MANAGEMENT PRACTICES, 1999 AgEcon
The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) is sponsored by the USDA:APHIS: Veterinary Services (VS). The NAHMS Feedlot '99 Study included feedlots of 1000-head or greater capacity from the 12 leading cattle feeding states. Feedlots included in the study represented 84.9 percent of U.S. feedlots of this size and contained 96.1 percent of the U.S. feedlot cattle inventory on feedlots with 1000-head or greater capacity as of January 1, 2000. For the purposes of the study, operations were grouped into two size categories: those with capacities of between 1000 and 7999 head, and those with capacities of 8000 head or more. Beef animals were the main type of cattle placed in feedlots regardless of operation size. Approximately one-half of the placements...

EGYÜTTMŰKÖDÉS A GABONAÁGAZATBAN A DÉL-ALFÖLD RÉGIÓBAN AgEcon
Stren, Bertalan.
Kérdőív segítségével meghatároztuk a gabonaágazat dél-alföldi szereplőinek egymáshoz fűződő viszonyainak jellegét, szorosságát.

Euroregion’s "mission" and the success of the Lisbon strategy AgEcon
Greta, Maria; Lewandowski, Krzysztof.
The article presents how Euroregions contribute to the execution of Lisbon Strategy’s objectives to ensure its positive outcomes. As „special” regions, Euroregion are the embodiment of entrepreneurship and they strive to be competitive. Because the Lisbon Strategy emphasised entrepreneurship-based competitiveness, especially the competitiveness of the SME sector, Euroregions, representing “natural entrepreneurship” and a basis for SME development, carried out their “mission” in line with the Lisbon Strategy.

kountry: A Stata utility for merging cross-country data from multiple sources AgEcon
Raciborski, Rafal.
This article describes kountry, a data-management command that can be used to translate one country-coding scheme into another, to recode country names into a “standardized form”, and to generate geographic-region variables. Users can build a custom dictionary through a helper command, kountryadd, that “teaches” kountry new name variations. The dictionary can be protected from an accidental overwriting through two helper commands: kountrybackup and kountryrestore.

Normative Economics or Improvement of Economic Life at Regional Level in the Czech Republic AgEcon
Klufova, Renata; Friebelova, Jana; Faltova Leitmanova, Ivana.
In the context of improvement of economic life, normative economics has to cope, if it is not only a theoretical construct, with various facts which are brought by the economic reality. Becoming aware of the mutual causality of economic phenomena and processes, the consideration of these facts should first define factually a particular area of interest and then identify formally a direction of its improvement. To reduce regional disparities, the key points are both the selection of disparities identification criterions and the specification of values of these criterions. The paper deals with the area which is nowadays relatively common – regional disparities. The improvement in this sense focuses on the decreasing of differences between particular regions...
