A regional analysis of CAP expenditure in Austria AgEcon
Strahl, Wibke; Dax, Thomas; Hovorka, Gerhard.
This paper reflects the demand for taking account of the territorial dimension in the application of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) more comprehensively. While this has been addressed in rural development discourse to a wide extent over the last two decades and consensus for regionalized strategies is emerging, programme evaluation is in general still limited to the analysis of policy interventions at the national level. This implies that conclusions on the territorial effects of CAP are largely missing. Therefore the intention of this paper is to provide a regional analysis of CAP expenditures for pillar 1 and pillar 2, and to demonstrate and assess their actual territorial impacts, represented on the basis of the NUTS 3 region ‘Obersteiermark West’:...

SOME IMPACTS OF ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (ADEQ) ENFORCEMENT IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY IN MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA AgEcon
Hemmer, Ronald.
Although water quality is a valid purpose for watershed projects under the PL83-566 Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act, historically very few water quality projects have ever been implemented in Arizona. This is largely due to the difficulty in measuring "non-controversial" monetary benefits associated with positive water quality impacts and to policy biased in favor of those projects with a higher monetary benefit-cost ratio. These reasons, among others, has prompted NRCS field economists to seek alternate methods to measure project benefits and costs. While the direct measurement of water quality benefits would be the preferable method to use, IMPLAN, through regional economic impact analysis, provides a way of measuring another category of...

Escobal D'Angelo, Javier; Torero, Maximo.

Technical Documentation of the Regional Manure Management Model for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed AgEcon
Aillery, Marcel P.; Gollehon, Noel R.; Breneman, Vincent E..
The Regional Manure Management Model, developed for the ERS project on "Manure Management for Improved Water Quality," is used to evaluate the cost and feasibility of manure land application as a manure management strategy at the regional level. This model is a nonlinear mathematical programming model of animal manure-nutrient production and distribution applied to the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The model is designed to assess regional costs of manure management, transport, and land application in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, given the existing structure of the animal industry and manure-storage technologies currently in use. Manure-nutrient production is allocated within the basin to minimize costs to the animal sector, subject to land availability and...

Fisheries policies impacts consideration towards the development of rural coastal areas AgEcon
Loizou, Efstratios; Chatzitheodoridis, Fotis; Mattas, Konstadinos; Polymeros, Konstantinos.
The current study aims to examine the effectiveness of fisheries policies and specifically of the Greek Operational Programme for Fisheries, 2007-13. In specific, aims to examine and assess possible impacts generated, in the regional economy of Voreio and Notio Aigaio from its four axis, with particularity to the forth one. For this a regional Input-Output model was built in order to capture direct and indirect impacts in terms of output, employment and income. Results indicate that the dynamics of the fisheries sector in the regional economy are very weak and along with the continuous shrinking of the sector, leads to the necessity of supporting alternative vocational activities for the development of coastal rural areas. Though, results indicate that the...

Künftige Veränderungen in der Lieferantenstruktur einer Molkerei an drei Standorten- Ergebnisse einer Befragung AgEcon
Wolter, Michael; Schierholz, Friederike; Lassen, Birthe J..

The Economic Impacts of a Foot-And-Mouth Disease Outbreak: A Regional Analysis AgEcon
Pendell, Dustin L.; Leatherman, John C.; Schroeder, Ted C.; Alward, Gregory S..
Contagious animal diseases like foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) are often referred to as economic diseases because of the magnitude of economic harm they can cause to producers and to local communities. This study demonstrates the local economic impact of a FMD outbreak in southwest Kansas. The expected economic impact of the disease hinges heavily on where the incidence of the disease occurs. Disease surveillance, management strategies, mitigation investment, and overall diligence clearly need to be much greater in concentrated cattle feeding and processing areas at large feeding operations in the region.

TRADITIONAL USES OF INPUT-OUTPUT MODELS IN WATERSHED PROGRAMS PLANNED UNDER PRINCIPLES AND GUIDELINES AgEcon
Sheets, Keith.
This paper outlines the traditional uses of input-output (I/O) modeling in watershed programs planned under federal "Principles and Guidelines." Generally, the national economic development costs and benefits are analyzed, and the I/O model is used to track on regional economic development impacts. These regional impact estimates have little impact in project selection, but provide a selling tool to develop local support for project funding and implementation.

Deumelandt, Friederike; Lassen, Birthe J.; Schierholz, Friederike; Wagner, Peter.
