Genetic variability of Brazilian rice landraces determined by SSR markers PAB
Borba,Tereza Cristina de Oliveira; Mendes,Clistiane dos Anjos; Guimarães,Élcio Perpétuo; Brunes,Tuliana Oliveira; Fonseca,Jaime Roberto; Brondani,Rosana Vianello; Brondani,Claudio.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic variability of rice (Oryza sativa) landraces collected in Brazilian small farms. Twelve simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers characterized 417 landraces collected in 1986, 1987 and 2003, in the state of Goiás, Brazil. The number of landraces with long and thin grain type increased in the evaluated period, probably due to market demand. Based on the molecular data, the genetic variability increased during this period and, as per to the factorial correspondence analysis, most of the accessions were grouped according to the year of collection. The incorporation of modern rice cultivars in landrace cultivation areas and the selection carried out by small farmers are the most probable factors responsible...

Genetic variability of rice recurrent selection populations as affected by male sterility or manual recombination PAB
Pinheiro,Letícia da Silveira; Rangel,Paulo Hideo Nakano; Vianello,Rosana Pereira; Brondani,Claudio.
The objective of this work was to determine the effect of male sterility or manual recombination on genetic variability of rice recurrent selection populations. The populations CNA-IRAT 4, with a gene for male sterility, and CNA 12, which was manually recombined, were evaluated. Genetic variability among selection cycles was estimated using14 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. A total of 926 plants were analyzed, including ten genitors and 180 individuals from each of the evaluated cycles (1, 2 and 5) of the population CNA-IRAT 4, and 16 genitors and 180 individuals from each of the cycles (1 and 2) of CNA 12. The analysis allowed the identification of alleles not present among the genitors for both populations, in all cycles, especially for the...

Three objectives of the project of rainfed lowland rice was emphasized for 1st to add up the necessary phenotype with resistance to the important insects and diseases, well develop in restrict environment, high yielding ability and maintain the good taste good cooking properties to the favorite varieties RD6, KDML105 and RD15. 2nd to diversified genetic background with high yielding ability 1 or 2 promising line and 3rd to purified the popular local varieties and put into the highend market. Rice breeding for a new variety with good quality for consumers and resist to insects and disease was continue keep on, but mostly result in fail objective sometime get good quality but not resistance or sometime get a resistance one but not good quality. It was...

Some parts of an irrigated area in the upper northern region, rice cultivation will be done in both dry and wet seasons. Glutinous rice varieties are still preferable for farmers due to high yield and suitability for people’s cultural consumption. To enhance the growth of rice production, the researchers of Rice Research Center in the region have been conducted the research and development on rice varietals improvement continuously to gain the desirable new varieties. The results showed the dominated 2 new promising glutinous rice lines, PRE96016- SPT-25-2-2-1-1 and PRE98002-PAN-B-1-3-3, by crossing method of IET 12011/SML and KKNLR75051-PMI-68-1/PHRAE1 for each lines respectively. Both lines showed the potential of the highest (948 and 934 kg/rai...

Variability and genetic diversity study in an advanced segregating population of rice with bacterial blight resistance genes introgressed Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Govintharaj,Ponnaiah; Manonmani,Swaminathan; Robin,Sabariappan.
ABSTRACT Bacterial blight disease of rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae is one of the most important widespread disease around the globe and can cause severe yield reductions of up to 30% of the total yield. Genetic variability was studied in 54 families of CB 174 R × IRBB 60 rice with bacterial blight resistance genes introgressed at the Department of Rice, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India. Traits such as plant height and the number of productive tillers per plant were found to have negative skewness in this study, indicating the duplication of gene effects. Panicle length and the number of grains per panicle were found to have positive kurtosis, indicating gene interactions. The phenotypic coefficient of variation was...
