Sandwaves, internal waves and sediment mobility at the shelf-edge in the celtic sea ArchiMer
Heathershaw, Ad; Codd, Jm.
Considerations of sediment mobility and unusual wavelength pattern changes in large sandwaves lying deep in the Celtic Sea, suggest that these features are probably formed as a result of internai wave perturbations on a tidally driven stream of sediment transport. In particular it is shown that while currents due to the surface tides alone are capable of transporting the sediments, it is necessary to invoke an internai wave mechanism to give the observed pattern of wavelength change across the sandwave field. Cartwright's (1959) internallee-wave model is found to give qualitative agreement with the observed decrease in sandwave wavelength with increasing distance from the shelf-break.

Dynamique de comblement d'un bassin sédimentaire soumis à un régime mégatidal : Exemple de la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel ArchiMer
Ehrhold, Axel.
This work has been performed in a DRET/CNRS convention and related to the problems of sedimentary dynamics in a bay dominated by tidal currents. It combines the descriptive study of the morphosedimentary units with the modeling of bedload processes. At the South channel Isles, the Mont-Saint-Michel bay is well known for his exceptional tidal range. It's open to the offshore with two broad master channels on both sides from the Chausey's archipelago. On the coarse sedimentary cover of pebbles and gravels, sediments dynamic series of some plurikilometres sandy ribbons. These sands are temporarily stocked in lonely bedforms and in coastal maritime banks, sandwaves field of Granville and tide delta. The coastal banks are connected in the littoral prism. They...

Geomorphology and sedimentology of a modern isolated carbonate platform: The glorieuses archipelago, SW Indian Ocean ArchiMer
Prat, Sophie; Jorry, Stephan; Jouet, Gwenael; Camoin, Gilbert; Vella, Claude; Le Roy, Pascal; Caline, Bruno; Boichard, Robert; Pastol, Yves.
The study of modern carbonate systems is commonly helps in improving facies interpretation in fossil reefs and in providing analogues of sediment distribution depending on the specific platform configuration (i.e. rimmed shelves and isolated carbonate platforms). This paper deals with a geomorphological and sedimentological study of the Glorieuses Archipelago, an isolated carbonate platform located between the northern tip of Madagascar and Mayotte. The dataset consists of Digital Terrain Model, satellite imagery, and box-sediment samples. Analyses of grain-size and composition of carbonate grains are used to characterize the distribution and heterogeneity of sediment accumulated on the isolated platform. Main results show that the Glorieuses Archipelago...
