Сезонная динамика численности и размерно-возрастного состава гемипопуляции марит Helicometra fasciata (Rud., 1819) в прибрежной зоне юго-западного Крыма. IBSS Repository
Корнийчук, Ю. М..

IBSS Repository
Серёгин, С. А..

Seasonal and inter-annual variability of bacterioplankton biomass at station Kerfix, off Kerguelen Islands, Antarctica ArchiMer
Delille, D.
Between January 1992 and March 1995, the research project Kerfix undertook the first regular non-coastal multiyear acquisition of parameters related to the carbon cycle in the Southern Ocean at a time series station located at 50degrees40'S-68degrees25'E, 110 km southwest of the Kerguelen Islands. I present here a general overview of the bacteriological data collected during this survey. Bacterioplankton biomass at Kerfix station was always significantly lower than in the direct vicinity of the Kerguelen Islands. Bacterial abundance decreased from surface to deepest layers (from 10(6) cells ml(-1) in surface layer to 5.0 x 10(4) cells ml(-1) at 1500 m). In contrast, mean cell volume (0.1 mum(3)) and proportion of free-living bacteria (80%) were relatively...

Combined Effects of Nitrogen Concentration and Seasonal Changes on the Production of Lipids in Nannochloropsis oculata ArchiMer
Olofsson, Martin; Lamela, Teresa; Nilsson, Emmelie; Berge, Jean-pascal; Del Pino, Victoria; Uronen, Pauliina; Legrand, Catherine.
Instead of sole nutrient starvation to boost algal lipid production, we addressed nutrient limitation at two different seasons (autumn and spring) during outdoor cultivation in flat panel photobioreactors. Lipid accumulation, biomass and lipid productivity and changes in fatty acid composition of Nannochloropsis oculata were investigated under nitrogen (N) limitation (nitrate:phosphate N:P 5, N:P 2.5 molar ratio). N. oculata was able to maintain a high biomass productivity under N-limitation compared to N-sufficiency (N:P 20) at both seasons, which in spring resulted in nearly double lipid productivity under N-limited conditions (0.21 g L−1 day−1) compared to N-sufficiency (0.11 g L−1 day−1). Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids increased from 76% to...

Temporal trends and spatial structures of the sea surface temperature in the Bay of Biscay ArchiMer
Koutsikopoulos, Constantin; Beillois, Pierre; Leroy, Claude; Taillefer, Françoise.
A time series spatial grid of sea surface temperature (SST) data provided by the archives of Meteo-France and covering the period 1972-1993 was analysed in order to define both the long-term and periodic (mainly seasonal) components at different locations in the Bay of Biscay. The study confirmed the existence of a long-term increasing trend in the SST, but showed that this trend was not homogeneous over the entire area. It revealed also that the amplitude of the cyclic components (summer-winter differences) is spatially heterogeneous. The south-eastern part of the Bay of Biscay, close to the French-Spanish border, shows the stronger warming trend (a mean increase of 1.4 degrees C for the period 1972-1993). This trend decreases in the adjacent regions and...

Morphometric Differences in Testicular Tissue of Tadarida brasiliensis Bats from the Urban Area of Mexico City During Summer, Autumn, and Winter International Journal of Morphology
Pérez-Rivero,Juan J; Rendon-Franco,Emilio; Pérez-Martínez,Mario; Ávalos-Rodríguez,Alejandro; Ávila-Flores,Rafael.
Most of the neotropical bats reproduce in a seasonal fashion. The purpose of this study was to assess changes in testicular tissue by morphometry, in Tadarida brasiliensis bat, in a south urban zone of Mexico City during summer, autumn, and winter. Three sample collections (February, June, and September) from T. brasiliensis were carried out (n=6). Testicle fragments were obtained for histological studies. Diameter of the seminiferous tubules and interstitial space were measured, cellular populations were identified and counted. June samples showed smaller diameter of seminiferous tubules and larger interstitial space between tubules; also there were less number of germinal epithelium cells and spermatids were absent. Tissues from September and February...

Total mercury in the fish Trichiurus lepturus from a tropical estuary in relation to length, weight, and season Neotropical Ichthyology
Barbosa,Scheyla C. T; Costa,Monica F; Barletta,Mário; Dantas,David Valença; Kehrig,Helena A; Malm,Olaf.
The Goiana River Estuary (7º30'S 34º47'W) is a typical estuary of the semi-arid tropical regions. This estuary shelters a rich fauna of fish, crustaceans and mollusks which play an important role in the life of traditional populations. It is also the main recipient of the effluents from the sugarcane agro-industry and sewage from settlements and villages. Trichiurus lepturus (n = 104), from the Goiana Estuary were examined for total mercury contents during ten months (2005 to 2007) spaning two dry seasons and part of a rainy season. The studied individuals showed weight (W) (204.1±97.9 g) and total length (TL) (63.1±10.1 cm, range 29.5-89.0 cm) with a significant (p<0.05) correlation. Correlation between TL and Hg-T (r = 0.37286) and between W and Hg-T...

Effects of Seasonal Changes on In Vitro Developmental Competence of Porcine Oocytes OAK
SUZUKI, Yo; WATANABE, Hiroyuki; FUKUI, Yutaka; 福井, 豊.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether seasonal changes affected in vitro developmental competence of porcine oocytes. The relationship between atmospheric temperature and embryonic development of in vitro matured porcine oocytes following intracytoplasmic sperm injection was examined throughout the year. The blastocyst rate (31.1%) in winter (mean atmospheric temperature during December to February: -3.8 C) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than those of other seasons in 2008/2009 (19.7-23.5%; 6.3-17.5 C). The monthly mean blastocyst rates were negatively correlated with the temperatures (r=-0.5944, P<0.05). The results of the present study suggest that porcine embryos could be produced throughout the year, but the in vitro production...

The selection of spawning location of sardine (Sardinops sagax) in the northern Benguela after changes in stock structure and environmental conditions OceanDocs
Kreiner, Anja; Yemane, Dawit; Stenevik, Erling K.; Moroff, Nadine E..
Most reports on the distribution of spawning areas of sardine (Sardinops sagax) in the northern Benguela originate from the 1970s and 1980s. The northern Benguela system was in a high upwelling regime during those decades. Since the early 1990s upwelling favourable winds have decreased and a trend of increasing sea surface temperature (SST) has been observed. Changes in the structure of sardine stock in the northern Benguela have been observed and it has been suggested that a reduced biomass and changes in stock structure has led to decreased spawning in the favourable southern locations, thus preventing a recovery of the sardine stock. The present paper on the contrary shows that there has been a shift in spawning location from the less favourable...

The use of the point count method for bird survey in the Atlantic forest Rev. Bras. Zool.
Volpato,Graziele H.; Lopes,Edson V.; Mendonça,Luciana B.; Boçon,Roberto; Bisheimer,Maria V.; Serafini,Patrícia P.; Anjos,Luiz dos.
The point count method has been widely used in tropical forest for sampling bird communities. In the present study, we investigated if data on richness and abundance acquired using the point count method are different comparing spring/summer (breeding season) and fall/winter (non-breeding season) in three types of the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Twelve sites were sampled seasonally during one year. In general we recorded more species and individuals during the breeding seasons. However, bird communities vary seasonally among the forest types and functional groups. We demonstrate that the use of point counts in tropical forest should be adjusted considering the differences in forest types and feeding guilds.

Feeding and reproduction ecology of the lizard Tropidurus torquatus (Squamata: Tropiduridae) in a rock outcrop area in southeastern Brazil RChHN
GOMIDES,SAMUEL C; RIBEIRO,LEONARDO B; PETERS,VERA M; SOUSA,BERNADETE M.
This work evaluates the diet and the reproductive cycle of Tropidurus torquatus in relation to seasonality in a rock outcrop formations in a remaining area of Atlantic Rainforest. The data indicate that the lizards feed mainly on arthropods and plant material. The female reproductive activity varies between seasons, while males contain spermatozoids throughout the year. The minimum body size at maturity of the individuals was larger when compared to other population of the same species studied by other authors. The data obtained in the present study confirm previous observations about the different patterns in diet composition and reproductive cycles of each population of this species in different latitude and occurrence areas, and provide the first study...

Seasonal changes in the use of marine food resources by Cinclodes nigrofumosus (furnariidae, aves): carbon isotopes and osmoregulatory physiology RChHN
SABAT,PABLO; MARTÍNEZ DEL RÍO,CARLOS.
Passerines lack functional salt glands and to a large extent avoid feeding on marine invertebrates. An exception is Cinclodes nigrofumosus. Previous studies reported that the contents of its gastrointestinal tract had a lower osmolality than seawater suggesting that birds were supplementing their marine invertebrate diet with terrestrial invertebrates and fresh water at certain periods of the year. We report seasonal changes in the diet of C. nigrofumosus at two contrasting coastal localities in Central Chile and document the potential correlation between weather and feeding habits with osmoregulatory features in this species. We expected that C. nigrofumosus would increase its use of osmotically challenging marine dietary sources when fresh water is...

Flutuações sazonais na abundância de Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Gmelin) no estuário do Saco da Fazenda, Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brasil Zoologia
Branco,Joaquim Olinto.
The Neotropic cormorant is one of the most comm on estuarine birds along SantaCatarina's shore, especially in artisanal fishery areas, where it obtains food easily. During the period from January, 1996 to December, 1999, and of January to December, 2001, the cormorants were monitored monthly in the estuary. The population P. brasilianus (Gmelin, 1789) presented seasonal changes with the same annual pattern of increment of the abundance. Significant differences were recorded between the seasons and the medium abundance of birds. Those differences can be attributed to the events of the life cicle of the species and the oscillations in the estuary water temperature.

Seasonal variation in the copepod community structure from a tropical Amazon estuary, Northern Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
Magalhães,André; Leite,Natália da R.; Silva,João G.S.; Pereira,Luci C.C.; Costa,Rauquírio M. da.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the seasonal variation of copepod community structure during the months of July, September and November 2003 (dry season) and January, March and May 2004 (rainy season) in the Curuçá estuary, northern Brazil. Samples were collected during neap tides via gentle 200µm mesh net tows from a small powerboat. Measurements of surface water conductivity were accomplished in situ using an electronic conductivimeter and salinity was later obtained through the transformation of the conductivity values. Salinity varied seasonally from 7.2 ± 0.1 to 39.2 ± 1.8 (mean ± standard deviation) and was influenced mainly by differences in the amount of rainfall between the studied sampling seasons. In total, 30 Copepoda taxa...
