Physiological quality of soybean seeds under different yield environments and plant density AGRIAMBI
Baron,Felipe A.; Corassa Junior,Geomar M.; Fioresi,Dejales; Santi,Antônio L.; Martini,Renan T.; Kulczynski,Stela M..
ABSTRACT Yield potential of agricultural fields associated with plant spatial arrangement could determine the physiological quality of soybean (Glycine max L.) seeds. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the physiological quality of soybean seeds from different yield environments and plant densities. Experiments were carried out in Boa Vista das Missões-RS, Brazil, during the 2014/2015 growing season. Yield environments were delineated by overlapping yield maps from the 2008, 2009/2010 and 2011/2012 growing seasons. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement with two yield environments (low and high) and five plant densities, with four replicates. Two varieties were tested: Brasmax Ativa RR (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30...

Tavanti,Tauan R.; Tavanti,Renan F. R.; Galindo,Fernando S.; Simões,Isadora; Dameto,Larissa S.; Sá,Marco E. de.
ABSTRACT The use of growth-promoting bacteria can increase the yield and quality of seeds of several annual crops, such as soybean. Based on that, the present study aimed to evaluate the effects of the inoculation of Bacillus subtilis strains on seed treatment, evaluating the yield and quality of seeds of two soybean cultivars. The experiment was conducted in a conventional system, in an Oxisol of clayey texture, in a crop under sprinkler irrigation. The experimental design was randomized blocks, arranged in split plots with four repetitions. Treatments were composed, in the plots, of two soybean cultivars: M7110 IPRO and Brasmax Desafio RR. Within the levels of subplots, the treatments consisted of inoculation and doses of inoculant: Bacillus subtilis...

Use of chlrophyll fluorescence sorting to improve soybean seed quality Rev. bras. sementes
Cicero,Silvio Moure; Schoor,Rob Van Der; Jalink,Henk.
The occurrence of green seeded soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] is a problem closely related to unfavorable climatic conditions, mainly drought, that occurs during the final stages of seed maturation. This problem causes serious losses to soybean seed quality in Brazil. In these seeds, chlorophyll is not properly degraded during maturation, drastically reducing seed quality. Using the chlorophyll fluorescence technique, it is possible to remove green seeds from the seed lot, improving seed quality in several species in which the occurrence of green seeds is also a problem. The objective of this research was to study the use of the chlorophyll fluorescence technique in sorting green seeds from soybean seed samples and its effects on quality. Five seed...

Factors affecting forage stand establishment Scientia Agricola
Sulc,R.M..
Significant advances have been made in our knowledge of forage seed physiology, technology, and stand establishment practices; however, stand establishment continues to be one of the most common production problems affecting forage crops in the USA. There is a need for research on stand establishment of forage crops under abiotic and biotic stress. Although the forage seed industry produces and markets seed of high quality, new methods of assessing seed vigor are needed and their use should be expanded in the industry to enable matching seed lot performance to specific environmental conditions where performance can be maximized. Seed treatment and seed coating are used in the forage seed industry, and studies have shown they are of benefit in some...

Priming of pioneer tree Guazuma ulmifolia (Malvaceae) seeds evaluated by an automated computer image analysis Scientia Agricola
Brancalion,Pedro Henrique Santin; Tay,David; Novembre,Ana Dionisia da Luz Coelho; Rodrigues,Ricardo Ribeiro; Marcos Filho,Júlio.
Direct seeding is one of the most promising methods in restoration ecology, but low field seedling emergence from pioneer tree seeds still reduces its large scale applicability. The aim of this research was to evaluate seed priming for the pioneer tree species Guazuma ulmifolia. Priming treatments were selected based on seed hydration curves in water and in PEG 8000 solution. Seeds were primed in water for 16 h and in Polyethylene glycol - PEG 8000 (-0.8 MPa for 56 and 88 h) at 20ºC to reach approximately 30% water content. Half of the seed sample of each treatment was dried back to the initial moisture content (7.2%); both dried and non-dried primed seeds as well as the unprimed seeds (control) were tested for germination (percentage and rate) and vigor...

Reproductive phenology and germination of Eleocharis laeviglumis R. Trevis. & Boldrini (Cyperaceae) Acta Botanica
Demeda,Camila Luisa Bernhardt; Seger,Guilherme Dubal dos Santos; Steiner,Neusa; Trevisan,Rafael.
ABSTRACT Aquatic macrophytes are important components of freshwater ecosystems, of which Cyperaceae is the most diverse family. Many species of Cyperaceae form dense populations along lake margins of the southern coast of Brazil, but little is known about their sexual reproductive strategies. We characterized the reproductive life cycle of Eleocharis laeviglumis, an abundant emergent macrophyte of coastal wetlands in southern Brazil, by assessing its reproductive phenophases and estimating the number of its flowers and potentially viable fruits per inflorescence in a natural population. We also tested seed germinability and vigor for a period of four months during a single reproductive season. The species possesses dichogamous and protogynous spikelets...

Vieira, Rogerio Faria; Lima, Renan Cardoso; Prado, Adalgisa Leles do; Paula Júnior, Trazilbo José de; Soares, Bruno de Almeida.
We evaluated the effects of split molybdenum (Mo) application at the reproductive stage of the common bean on seed Mo content (SMoC) and seed quality in two trials in the Zona da Mata region, Minas Gerais. Plants were sprayed with 100 or 600 g Mo ha-1 at the V4 stage. The higher dose was also split into 100(V4)+500(R5), 100(V4)+500(R7), 100(V4)+250(R5)+250(R7), and 100(V4)+150(R5)+350(R7). SMoC from plants sprayed with 600 g (five treatments) was 3.7- or 62-fold higher than those sprayed with 100 g, with seeds from the former treatments exhibiting slightly poorer quality. Application of 100 g at V4 + 500 g at the reproductive stage (four treatments) increased SMoC 1.6- or 2.7-fold compared with SMoC from plants sprayed with 600 g at V4. Split application...

Seed coating is among the most potentially beneficial treatments to enhance seed performance, contributing to the improvement of crop stands due to its role in improved seedling development. Thus, micronutrients such as zinc exhibit potential for use in seed coatings. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of coating wheat seeds with zinc sulfate on traits that are related to seed quality during storage and nutrition efficiency during seedling growth. The levels of ZnSO4 used were 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 mL kg-1 seed. After 0,3 and 6 months of storage, the germination percentage, mean root length, root dry mass, seedling emergence, nutritional efficiency (absorption, transport and use) and zinc content in the seeds were evaluated. Seed coating...
