Effects of light intensity modification by reflective aluminized screenhouse on sweet pepper growth and yield REA
Ferreira,Regis de C.; Bezerra,Ricardo de S.; Rosa,Juliano Q. S..
Sweet pepper is one of the ten most consumed vegetables in world. Although it develops better under protected environment, the cultivation in tropical countries is practiced in open field due greenhouse structure higher costs. Unfortunately, such practice has compromised the crop to reach either best yield or fruit quality. Since production and cost are the most important criteria for agricultural production, we aimed to evaluate reflective aluminized polypropylene shading net influence on sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) growth and production as intermediary alternative for low/middle income producers from Brazilian tropical regions. Sweet pepper Magali R hybrid was cultivated in two environments: FC - field conditions (control) and RS - reflective...

Nitrate concentration in lettuce leaves depending on photosynthetic photon flux and nitrate concentration in the nutrient solution Horticultura Brasileira
Cometti,Nilton Nélio; Martins,Madlles Q; Bremenkamp,Cintia Aparecida; Nunes,José Arcanjo.
The nitrate accumulation in plant tissues can occur due to low light availability. However, published studies have not linked nitrate accumulation to photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) measured during the growing period. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the reduction of photosynthetic photon flux and the concentration of nitrate in the nutrient solution on agronomic characteristics and accumulation of nitrate in lettuce grown in hydroponics. The trial design was entirely randomized in a factorial scheme (4 x 2) with three repetitions, and four shading levels: 0, 30, 50, and 80% and two nitrate levels in nutrient solution: 5 and 10 mmol L-1. The dry matter production decreased directly and linearly with the reduction of light. The lowest level in...

Management Of Commelina benghalensis with Saflufenacil in Shaded Environments Planta Daninha
SANTOS JUNIOR,A.; FREITAS,F.C.L.; SANTOS,I.T.; SILVA,D.C.; PAIXÃO,G.P.; SEDIYAMA,C.S..
ABSTRACT: The repetitive use of glyphosate in the control of weeds in eucalyptus plantations has selected tolerant species such as Commelina benghalensis. Therefore, the use of herbicides of other mechanisms of action, such as saflufenacil, in rotation or combination with glyphosate, is necessary to reduce damages caused by C. benghalensis, whose sensitivity to herbicides can be influenced by the shading caused by the eucalyptus crop. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of saflufenacil in the management of C. benghalensis at different shading levels. Three experiments were carried out regarding a certain shading level (cultivation environment with 0, 40, and 55% shade). The experimental design was a randomized block design with five herbicide doses...

Effect of light and temperature on germination and early growth of Vochysia tucanorum Mart., Vochysiaceae, in cerrado and forest soil under different radiation levels Rev. Bras. Bot.
BARBOSA,ANDRÉA RODRIGUES; YAMAMOTO,KIKYO; VALIO,IVANY F. M..
Vochysia tucanorum Mart. (Vochysiaceae) is a very widely distributed species in the cerrado and forests in Brazil, from the State of Bahia to Paraná. Its seed germination was analysed under eight treatments using different conditions of light and temperature. Up to 73 days, at least ca. 93% of the seeds germinated in all treatments, except under alternating temperatures of 35°/10°C (62%). Light enhanced germination, except under constant temperature of 25°C when seeds are not photoblastic. At this temperature, the highest percentage of germination was found. Initial vegetative growth was analysed by comparing the effects of shading, by means of different percentages of full daylight (100%, 45%, 10.6%, 4.8%), and soils from cerrado and forest. During 123...

Microclimate and thermal comfort indices in silvopastoral systems under different planting directions and seasons AGRIAMBI
Carvalho,Rafael P. de; Heid,Debora M.; Davide,Livia M. C.; Piletti,Ligia M. M. da S.; Jesus,Fernanda L. F. de; Viegas Neto,Antonio L..
ABSTRACT The orientation of tree-rows in a silvopastoral system associated with different seasons of the year allows more or less sunlight penetration, resulting in deliberate modification of the microclimate composition and thermal conditions provided to animals. In this sense, the aims of this study were to evaluate microclimatic variables and thermal comfort indices for east-west and north-south oriented silvopastoral systems, compared to unshaded systems during summer and winter. The study was conducted at the Modelo II Farm (21° 08’ S 53° 17’ W) at an altitude of 354 m. A randomized block design in scheme of split-split plots with five repetitions was adopted. Two planting directions and a control treatment (unshaded) were evaluated in the plots....

Effects of shading on leaf physiology and morphology in the ‘Yinhong’ grape plants Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Wu,Yueyan; Qiu,Tian; Shen,ZiLi; Wu,Yanyan; Lu,Dan; He,Jingwen.
Abstract Shading is a practical measure to reduce the heat stress to grape trees in the summer. However, inappropriate shading will cause the reduction in leaf photosynthesis and consequently the retardation of growth for the plants or the loss of fruit yield and quality for the mature grape trees. In this study we have used 1-year-old ‘YinHong’ grape plants growing under different levels of shading, ranging from full sunlight 0% to 80% reduction, to investigate their growth, physiological and biochemical responses. The results show that shading rate =45% did not significantly affect grape growth. Shading over 45% reduction of the full sunlight, the growth of the grape plants were started to be inhibited. In addition, soluble protein content, the...

Soil bulk density and biomass partitioning of Brachiaria decumbens in a silvopastoral system Scientia Agricola
Paciullo,Domingos Sávio Campos; Castro,Carlos Renato Tavares de; Gomide,Carlos Augusto de Miranda; Fernandes,Priscila Beligoli; Rocha,Wadson Sebastião Duarte da; Müller,Marcelo Dias; Rossiello,Roberto Oscar Pereyra.
Shade in silvopastoral systems improves the thermal comfort of animals, but it may also affect the pasture productivity and can contribute to soil compaction in the shaded areas due to the increase in the number of animals looking for comfort. The effect of grazing at various distances from tree rows (under the tree canopy, at 6 and at 12 m away from the trees) on the soil bulk density and on the aerial and root biomass of Brachiaria decumbens was evaluated in both the dry and the rainy seasons. The study was carried out on an Orthic Ferralsol in a randomized block design with two replications. Tree rows were composed of Eucalyptus grandis and Acacia mangium species, and the paddocks were submitted to a rotational stocking management, using Holstein (Bos...

Aumonde,Tiago Zanatta; Pedó,Tiago; Borella,Junior; Amarante,Luciano do; Villela,Francisco Amaral.
This work aimed to evaluate the effect that different intensities of light have on the physiological attributes of red rice seeds and seedlings. Before and after emergence, seedlings were exposed to light levels of 35%; 65% and 100% in a greenhouse. We evaluated shoots and roots, in terms of length and dry mass, as well as leaf area and content of chlorophyll (a,b and total). In leaves and roots, we quantified the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT) and guaiacol peroxidase (POX). We determined the leaf area ratio (F A), leaf mass ratio (F W), specific leaf area (S A), and shoot/root ratio (P W). At higher light intensities, shoot length decreased, whereas root length, dry mass and number of tillers increased....
