Characteristics of carcass and non-carcass components in feedlot native goats in the Brazilian semiarid region R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva,Andrea Souza da; Furtado,Dermeval Araújo; Medeiros,Ariosvaldo Nunes de; Costa,Roberto Germano; Cezar,Marcílio Fontes; Pereira Filho,José Morais.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of carcass and non-carcass components in Brazilian semi-arid native goats of different genotypes in feedlot system. It was used 30 non-castrated Azul, Graúna and Moxotó goats with average initial weight of 15.93 ± 2.4, distributed in a completely randomized design with 3 genotypes and 10 replicates. The experimental diet used had a roughage:concentrate ratio of 47:53. There was a significant effect for weight gain and subcutaneous fat thickness according to genotype. Retail cut yields did not differ among the studied breeds. The percentage of non-carcass components in relation to live weight and empty body weight were not different among genotypes. Graúna and Azul genotypes showed daily gain...

Carcass characteristics of feedlot-finished Nellore heifers slaughtered at different weights Animal Sciences
Rezende, Pedro Leonardo de Paula; Restle, João; Bilego, Ubirajara Oliveira; Fernandes, Juliano José de Resende; Missio, Regis Luis; Guimarães, Tiago Pereira.
Carcass and meat characteristics of 48 Nellore heifers at 24 to 30 months of age, with an initial weight of 263.4 ± 13.9 kg, were evaluated. The experiment was set up as a completely randomized design with four treatments, which consisted of four slaughter-weight classes, namely <340, 340-370, 370-400, or >400 kg. Back fat thickness was not influenced (p > 0.05) by slaughter weight in any of the forms it was expressed (mm or %), averaging 5.3 mm. Loin eye area in cm2 increased (p < 0.05) with the increase in slaughter weight. Animals slaughtered at a live weight (LW) of more than 400 kg showed better (p < 0.05) carcass conformation than the other experimental groups (9.8 points). Heifers slaughtered at over 400 kg LW had a more compact (p...

Carcass characteristics and meat quality of broilers fed with crude glycerin originated from palm oil and wasted vegetable oil in diets Animal Sciences
Legawa, Astiari Tia; Wattanachant, Chaiyawan; Wattanasit, Sutha.
A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of crude glycerin on slaughter weight and carcass characteristics of broilers. Total of 180 male Ross - 308 day old chicks were allocated to 3 treatments with 4 replicates in a completely randomized design. The dietary treatments were: diet without crude glycerin inclusion (T1), diet with 5% crude glycerin inclusion from waste vegetable oil (T2), and diet with 5% crude glycerin inclusion from palm oil (T3). On day 42, twenty chickens per treatment were randomly sampled and slaughtered to determine the carcass characteristics. From the study, both crude glycerins did not give any effect on the slaughter weight and carcass characteristics, but broilers received crude glycerin had higher abdominal fat (p <...

Do carcasses of lambs finished on commercial production systems meet market standards? Anais da ABC (AABC)
LÔBO,RAIMUNDO N.B.; CHAPARRO-PINZÓN,ANDRÉS; MELO NETO,FRANCISCO V.O.; LIMA,LISIANE D.; BATISTA,ANA SANCHA M.; LÔBO,ANA MARIA B.O..
ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize a commercial lamb finishing system using animals of undefined breed from production to slaughter by analyzing performance, carcass traits, yield of commercial cuts, and the quality and meat acceptance of different slaughter groups, as to evaluate whether this system provides the market with a standardized product. The lots were not homogeneous for yield of commercial cuts and performance and morphometric traits evaluated in vivo. The groups were heterogeneous to 75% of the 13 carcass traits evaluated, among them, hot and cold carcass weights, hot and cold carcass yields, carcass grade finishing and biological yield. There was also no uniformity for the proportion of non-carcass components, morphometry of carcass,...
