Artificial induction of lactation in cattle R. Bras. Zootec.
Freitas,Priscila Ribeiro Corradi; Coelho,Sandra Gesteira; Rabelo,Euler; Lana,Ângela Maria Quintão; Artunduaga,Maria Alexandra Torres; Saturnino,Helton Mattana.
Forty Holstein cows, with previous reproductive problems, empty, at second or more lactations, with an average milk production of 9,200 kg in the previous lactation and a dry period over than 50 days were distruibuted in two groups to evaluate two protocols of milking induction. It was given to group 1, on days one, eight and 21 recombinant bovine somatotropin-bSTr (500 mg); from day two to eight, estradiol cypionate (0.075 mg/kg BW) and medroxi progesterone acetate (0.25 mg/kg BW); from days nine to 15, estradiol cypionate (0.037 mg/kg BW); on day 19, prostaglandin F2α (0.530 mg) and from days 19 to 21, isoflupredone acetate (0.05 mg/kg BW). Group two was given, on days one, eight and 21, bSTr (500 mg), from days 2 to 15, estradiol benzoate (0.071 mg/kg...

Effects of BST and high energy diet on gene expression in mammary parenchyma of dairy heifers R. Bras. Zootec.
Lew,Betina Joyce; Oliveira,Mauro Dal Secco de; Freitas Júnior,José Esler de; Carvalho,Marina Vieira de; Rêgo,Aníbal Coutinho do; Rennó,Francisco Palma.
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of dietary energy and recombinant bovine somatotropin (bST) injection to identify genes that might control mammogenesis. Total RNA was extracted from the parenchymal tissue of 32 heifers randomly assigned to one of four treatments: two diets (a standard diet and a high energy, high protein diet), each with or without bST. To perform microarray experiments, RNA samples were pooled (2 animals/pool) before reverse transcription and labeling with Cy3 or Cy5. A 4-node loop design was used to examine the differential gene expression among treatments using a bovine-specific cDNA microarray (National Bovine Functional Genomics Consortium Library, NBFGC) containing 18,263 unique expressed sequence tags (EST)....

Effect of somatotropin on survival and diameter of bovine preantral follicles Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Silva,T.F.; Costa,S.L.; Costa,E.P.; Guimarães,J.D.; Queiroz-Castro,V.L.D..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) on survival and diameter of bovine preantral ovarian follicles (PAOF) cultured in vitro. Ovaries were collected from adult cows and fragments of ovarian cortex were immediately fixed (non-cultured control) or cultured in vitro in α-MEM+ alone or containing 10, 50, 100 or 1,000ng/mL rbST. The fragments were processed for Classical Histology and Transmission Electron Microscopy. After one and seven days of culture, the percentage of normal follicles in the non-cultured control was superior (P< 0.05) to the follicles cultured in α-MEM+ alone or with different rbST concentrations. The oocyte and follicular mean diameter did not increase during the culture for...
