Особенности реорганизации тканевого метаболизма у двустворчатого моллюска Anadara inaequivalvis (Bruguiere, 1789) в условиях экспериментального голодания 13

В экспериментальных условиях исследовано влияние голодания на направленность метаболических процессов в тканях двустворчатого моллюска-вселенца Anadara inaequivalvis (Bruguiere, 1789). Длительность эксперимента – 18 сут. Показано, что на начальных этапах голодания (6 сут.) анадара использует ресурс тканевого лактата в направлении реакций окислительного декарбоксилирования. Об этом свидетельствует значительный рост активности лактатдегидрогеназы на фоне снижения содержания лактата и повышения уровня пирувата в тканях. Процесс адаптации анадары к голоданию идет по пути использования резерва аминокислот в процессах биосинтеза белка. Biochemical substrates expenses and respiration at short-term starvation of marine planktonic animals 5

One of the most important indices at estimation of productivity characteristics of hydrobionts is oxygen consumed in the process of respiration. Usually respiration (standard metabolism) is measured in small-volume respirometres (30-50 ml) where animals' activity is considerably restricted. It may underestimate respiration in comparison to natural one. Therefore respirometres of larger volume were used. Simultaneously under same conditions we tried to estimate energy requirements by expense of main biochemical components of organic matter (lipids, protein, glycogen). Results were used to calculate energy budget and to compare energy expenditures, measured according to consumed oxygen and tissue substrates expense.

Evaluating the histological-based condition of wild collected larval fish: A synthetic approach applied to common sole (Solea solea) 5

In the present study, the histological-based condition of common sole (Solea solea) larvae in the English Channel was evaluated to assess the relevance of experimentally-calibrated indices for wild collected specimens. Based on topographical observation of foregut, midgut, hindgut, liver and pancreas, each of the 202 larvae analysed was attributed one of the six grades of a condition index that was developed for sole in the nineties. In parallel, a synthetic table of 20 criteria historically used as condition indicators was created from an extensive review of the literature. Characterization and variations of organic parameters in teleost fish endolymph during day-night cycle, starvation and stress conditions 5

The aim of the present work was to examine the modifications of the organic composition of fish endolymph under environmental conditions (day-night cycle, starvation and Cl-2-Stress) known to modify otolith growth. Endolymph electrophoretic patterns were compared. An antibody raised against the trout otolith organic matrix allowed examining the variations of organic matrix precursors in the endolymph under the above conditions. Western blot analysis showed bands around 60-80 kDa. Some mechanisms of selection which operate on marine Vibrio and Pseudomonas strains during survival in dilute environments have been examined. Mannitol uptake and utilisation systems are more efficient in the Vibrio strain compared with the Pseudomonas strain during starvation survival. A Vibrio mutant strain lacking mannitol uptake showed no greater loss of viability during starvation survival than mannitol positive strains. The Vibrio strain appears to be constitutive with respect to mannitol uptake systems, whereas the Pseudomonas strain examined is inducible. Spawning location and timing are critical for understanding fish larval survival. The impact of a changing environment on spawning patterns is, however, poorly understood. A novel approach is to consider the impact of the environment on individual life histories and subsequent spawnings. In the present work, we extend the Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) theory to investigate how environment variability impacts the spawning timing and duration of a multiple-batch spawning species. The data showed that antibody response and NK cells activity of a teleostean fish Dicentrarchus labrax (Loup de mer) were maximal when animals were bred at a temperature equal to 18 degree C. A proteinoprive diet enhanced T cytotoxic response and diminished NK cell activity. A fast of 15 days had no effect on these two cellular responses.

Functional Characterization of a short neuropeptide F-related receptor in a Lophotrochozoa, the mollusk Crassostrea gigas 5

Members of the short neuropeptide F (sNPF) family of peptides and their cognate receptors play key roles in a variety of physiological processes in arthropods. In silico screening of GigasDatabase, a specific expressed sequence tag database from the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas, resulted in the identification of a receptor (CgsNPFR-like) phylogenetically closely related to sNPF receptors (sNPFRs) of insects. A reverse endocrinology approach was undertaken to identify the peptide ligand(s) of this orphan receptor. Etude de la composition corporelle de la sole (Solea solea ) au cours du jeune: Influence de la temperature 5

The effects of starvation on Solea solea at 10 and 20 degree C in sea water, were studied. At 20 degree C fishes start to die on week 4; at 10 degree C they support a longer starvation period (9 weeks). Proximate analysis shows that protein are more steadily used at 20 degree C than at 10 degree C, contrarily to the corporal lipids which are used at the same rate. Starvation results in a reduction of liver lipids and glycogen. This reduction is more pronounced at 20 degree C : 70% of hepatic glycogen is used at this temperature within the first week of starvation against 30% at 10 degree C.

Sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax larvae were hatched and reared for 34 days in the laboratory to test a recent biochemical index (DNA/C) of larval fish nutritional condition. Variations in DNA/C ratio values were monitored during the whole larval ontogenesis of fed individuals and the effect of starvation was assessed at three developmental stages. Three main periods in the relative DNA content variations were determined in close connection with growth patterns during larval ontogenesis.

The use of morphological and histological features as nutritional condition indices of Pagrus pagrus larvae 83

Morphometrical and histological techniques were employed to characterize Pagrus pagrus larvae nutritional condition. Larvae were reared in laboratory under controlled conditions with the main objective of testing whether these methodologies allowed finding differences between larvae from different feeding treatments. Once yolk was consumed (three days after hatching) larvae were assigned to a feeding treatment: starved during the whole experiment; delayed feeding, starved during three days; fed during the entire experiment. ABSTRACT The effects of the timing of first feeding on the point-of-no-return (PNR) and growth of laboratory reared silver catfish Rhamdia voulezi larvae were studied. The experiment began immediately after the complete absorption of the yolk sac, 3 days after hatching (DAH). The food was provided for the first time on 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th DAH. Zooplankton and newly-hatched Artemia spp. were used to feed the larvae. To evaluate the effect of food deprivation on growth, the standard length and weight of 594 larvae were assessed. Two <i>Artemia</i> species (<i>Artemia franciscana</i>, GSL strain and a population from <i>Artemia sinica</i>, ARC No. 1188) were enriched with two different emulsions containing high levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (23 and 44% of total fatty acids, respectively) in filtered seawater (30 ppt) at 28°C. The total protein and ammonia contents in the hemolymph of Bradybaena similaris (Fèrussac, 1821) during the starvation were determined from August, 1996 to March, 1998. The results revealed a significant variation in the total protein content throughout the period of starvation analized, there being a negative relation between the total protein content and the time of starvation. But the same result was not observed in the ammonia content. After 30 days of starvation there was a reduction of 2,8% of the content of ammonia in the hemolymph. Food supply is considered critical for a successful culturing of decapod larvae. However, some species may present yolk reserve sufficient to complete their larval development without external food supply (known as lecithotrophic larval development). In the present study, two experiments were carried out in order to verify whether the callianassid Lepidophthalmus siriboia have lecithotrophic behaviour or, if they need external food for their larval development: Experiment 1, larvae submitted to an initial feeding period and Experiment 2, larvae submitted to an initial starvation period. The importance of feeding in the larval development of the ghost shrimp Callichirus major (Decapoda: Callianassidae) 42

The present study investigated whether the callianassid Callichirus major shows a lecithotrophic behaviour during larval development. Two experiments were carried out. In the first experiment, larvae were subjected to an initial period of feeding, while in the second they were subjected to an initial period of starvation. In Experiment 1, 80% of C. major larvae succeeded moulting to juvenile stage in treatment with larvae fed every day. In the treatments with larvae fed for 1, 2 and 3 days there was total mortality before they reached the megalopal stage. In Experiment 2, zoea larvae showed more resistance when subjected to an initial period of starvation in which larvae starved for 1, 2 and 3 days and had survival rates of 100, 60 and 80%, respectively....

The influence of starvation and Eurytrema coelomaticum infection on the nitrogenous products of degradation in the hemolymph of Bradybaena similaris 52

The urea and uric acid contents in the hemolymph of Bradybaena similaris were analyzed under starvation and Eurytrema coelomaticum infection during 30 days. The urea and uric acid contents in the uninfected and fed snails were 15.090 mg/dl and 9.399 mg/dl, respectively, being the urea/uric acid ratio 1.6. The urea content in starved snails increased to a maximum of 363.237 mg/dl at 15 days, and the uric acid varied to a maximum of 11.470 mg/dl. The urea content in infected snails was reduced to a minimum of 2.123 mg/dl at 30 days of infection and the uric acid increased significatively at 25 days post exposure, being 13.820 mg/dl.
