| Teflon dialysis sampling chambers have been employed to study the toxicity of ZnCl sub(2) on a cadmium-sensitive bacterium, Acinetobacter) CS 13, in an aquarium with running seawater. A concentration of 10 mg Zn super(++) l super(-1) did not influence the cell densities in the chambers, but cell densities decreased at zinc concentrations of 15 and 20 mg l super(-1). In seawater with 20 mg Zn super(++) lu-1 the bacteria accumulated zinc from 827 to 2813 mu g g super(-1) cells dry wt after 1 d. After 2 d the zinc concentration increased to 4625 mu g g super(-1) dry wt. | The objective of this study is to define a reliable tool for dimensioning of adhesively bonded assemblies, particularly for marine and underwater applications. A modified “Arcan” fixture, suited for the study of the behavior of bonded metal-metal assemblies, was developed in order to focus on the analysis of the behavior of the adhesive in thin films. To analyze the kinematics of the deformation of the adhesive joint non-contact extensometry techniques were employed. Thus various characteristics of the non-linear behavior of the adhesive were observed. The first results obtained for mixed assemblies (steel, aluminium, composite substrates) show similar behaviour of the adhesive using the proposed procedure. | Se estudió la estandarización y validación de una técnica de biopsia para la evaluación del desarrollo ovárico del pargo flamenco, Lutjanus guttatus (Steindachner, 1869). Ovocitos en diferentes estadios estaban presentes a lo largo de los ovarios. Los ovocitos vitelogénicos se distinguen por su opacidad bajo luz trasmitida. Los diámetros deben ser medidos dentro de las primeras 36 h después de su fijación en una solución de formalina al 1 % en 0,9 % de NaCl, antes de que su citoplasma sea clareado con solución Serra, para evitar distorsiones. | A stress test is proposed for the evaluation of the physiological condition of fish larvae in nutritional studies. The test was used in a study of quantitative (n-3) highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA) requirements in larval <i>Lates calcarifer</i> and <i>Siganus guttatus</i>. It enabled to suggest fast intervention at reduced larval quality and allowed to prevent mass mortalities.
