Population Changes of Eubacteria, Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria and Methanogenic Archaea in an Anaerobic Reactor Processing Ethanol Distillery Vinasse BABT

Abstract The microbiological characterization by molecular techniques (DGGE and quantitative PCR) of Archaea, Bacteria domain and sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) from a laboratory scale Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) processing sugar cane vinasse was performed during the operational phase with increasing organic loads. The organic load removal efficiency was between 97% and 75% for volumetric organic loads (VOL) in the range of 0.6 to 15.4 kgCOD.m-3.d−1 and for higher VOL (until 27.0 kgCOD.m-3 .d−1) the removal efficiency decreased to 48%. Microbial dynamics during azo dye degradation in a UASB reactor supplied with yeast extract BJM

The present work aimed to investigate the microbial dynamics during the anaerobic treatment of the azo dye blue HRFL in bench scale upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor operated at ambient temperature. Sludge samples were collected under distinct operational phases, when the reactor were stable (low variation of color removal), to assess the effect of glucose and yeast extract as source of carbon and redox mediators, respectively. Determination of kinetic parameters of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (uasb), treating swine wastewater Ciência e Agrotecnologia

This research aimed to estimate the kinetic parameters of a UASB reactor treating swine wastewater from farming. The system consisted of: a degritter with a triangular-notch weir in order to measure the flow; a static sieve; an acidification/equalization tank (AET); ABR and UASB reactors; a settling tank; two infiltration ponds and a greenhouse for fertirrigation. The hydraulic retention times (HRT) adopted for the UASB reactor, were: 8.0; 9.6; 8.4; 6.0 and 4.8 hours. The operational temperature was 23.4º C±1.5º C. The present research was carried out in the Laboratory of Water Analysis at the Engineering Department at Federal University of Lavras (LWAED-UFLA), in order to evaluate the hydrodynamic behavior of a lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB) that was continuously fed with liquid effluent from swine manure with solid separation over 2mm. The hydrodynamic parameters were determined by a tracer study, under hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 12 hours, using Lithium Chloride (LiCl) as a tracer. The present work aimed at determining and evaluating the kinetic parameters from the UASB reactor treating swine manure effluent in a lab-scale experiment. The research was carried out in the Laboratory of Water Analysis at the Engineering Department (LAADEG) at the campus of Federal University of Lavras - UFLA. The system was assembled with an acidification and equalization tank (AET), an UASB reactor and an aerated facultative pond (AFP).
