Beyond the technical and technological advances in the conversion of marine by-products into useful products, the territorial, economic, social, political and environmental parameters, which govern all forms of approaches for fish by-products upgrading, must be taken in account. This is essential to understand why and how bioconversion technologies are applicable. The fishery sector is facing several issues such as fish stocks weakening, recourse to imports, aquaculture rising or consumers behaviors which complicate the approach of fish by-products upgrading as it is linked to the raw material processing. Thanks to some projects addressed this thematic in recent years, several quantitative and qualitative data about by-products deposits are available....

In this paper, results from a study on the use of improved coffee production technology schemes among smallholder coffee producers in three prominent coffee producing regions in Honduras are presented. The impact of various schemes (trajectories) in which different agents influence the producers’ decision to use new technologies was analyzed. In particular, there are differences in the influence of a) private coffee buying organizations and b) government and public development agencies on the innovation behavior of coffee growers. The entry of Brazilian fresh fruit small and medium producers into the global market 123

The objective of this paper is to identify some elements which contribute to the entry of small and medium producers into the global market. Specifically, it analyses the case of the greatest Brazilian mango and grape exported region - the Petrolina-Juazeiro (P-J). The conceptual background consists of two approaches. The first conceptual framework is the Global Value Chain (GVC) approach which is mainly concerned with the entry of local economies, from developing countries, into the global market. The second approach is the dynamic capability which is mainly concerned with the way the firm could acquire capabilities.
