Los métodos basados en la percepción remota son herramientas importantes para la medición de variables biofísicas del bosque a un costo menor y a una escala espacial y temporal mayor. En este trabajo se analiza la relación existente entre datos del Inventario Nacional Forestal y de Suelos (INFyS) y datos espectrales provenientes de imágenes de la plataforma SPOT correspondientes al bosque templado y bosque mesófilo de Hidalgo, México. Análisis digital de imágenes como herramienta en el estudio de cambio color de frutos en postcosecha. Colegio de Postgraduados

Se desarrollaron dos técnicas basadas en procesamiento de imágenes digitales; una para generar un modelo geométrico tridimensional en CAD y otra para generar una proyección geométrica en tres especies frutales (mango, naranja y pera). Se tomaron cuatro imágenes; una de la cara más ancha (0°) y el resto cada 90°. Los modelos se generaron dividiendo cada imagen en 8, 16 y 32 divisiones. La proyección geométrica se generó con la corrección de curvatura vertical y horizontal mediante el cálculo de la longitud del arco cada uno o dos pixeles. Se evalúo el efecto del tamaño de las imágenes al 50%, 100% y 200%. Se retiró la cubierta de los fruto y digitalizó, posteriormente se calculó el área externa. La técnica más común para estimar variables dasométricas a escalas grandes o pequeñas son los inventarios forestales que se basan en un muestreo en campo. En la actualidad la teledetección ofrece un abanico de posibilidades para contrubuir a esa tarea, tal es el caso de los datos LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) que permiten obtener una nube de puntos georreferenciados que dibuja tridimensionalmente el bosque. Mathematical models to describe the volumetric shrinkage rate of red beans during drying REA

The present study aimed to determine the volumetric shrinkage rate of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seeds during air-drying under different conditions of air, temperature and relative humidity, and to adjust several mathematical models to the empiric values observed, and select the one that best represents the phenomenon. Six mathematical models were adjusted to the experimental values to represent the phenomenon. It was determined the degree of adjustment of each model from the value of the coefficient of determination, the behavior of the distribution of the residuals, and the magnitude of the average relative and estimated errors. Using airborne laser altimetry to estimate Sabellaria alveolata (Polychaeta: Sabellariidae) reefs volume in tidal flat environments ArchiMer

This study has exploited aerial photographs and LiDAR digital elevation model to quantify intertidal complex landforms volume. A first volume estimation of the main sabellariid polychaete reef complex of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel - France is presented. The Sabellaria alveolata is an engineering species that heavily modifies its environment. This gregarious tube-building annelid forms dense and solid reefs of bioclastic coarse sand which can reach several km(2). Since 1970 a very strong decline of reefs has been observed. The authorities have curbed fishing activities without any noticeable changes in reef health status. The S. alveolata reef volume is estimated to be 132 048 m(3) (96 301 m(3) for Sainte-Anne reef and 35 747 m(3) for Champeaux reef)....

Influence of tank volume on vitellogenesis and spawning performances in sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax L. ArchiMer

Sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax (mean weight: 748 +/- 13 g), were maintained before and during vitellogenesis in 1, 3, 8, 16 and 32 m(3) tanks, and then they were transferred to 2 m(3) tanks, for the spawning season. During the first 2 months of the experiment, the growth rates were significantly lower in smaller tanks (1 m(3)). In August, the oocyte diameters were significantly lower in smaller tanks (1, 3 and 8 m(3)) than in larger (16-32 m(3)) tanks. At the end of the experiment, the fish mean weight in the 1 m(3) tanks was significantly lower than in the 3 m(3) tanks, but oocyte diameters and plasma oestradiol concentrations were not significantly different between the volumes. Comparison of Cerebellar Volume Between Subjects with Bilateral Congenital Blindness and Healthy Individuals International Journal of Morphology

Cerebellum regulates motor control and physical coordination. It is known that when eye and hand need to be worked in combination, cerebellum is active and it provides coordination between eye and hand. Cerebellar cortex atrophy appears with dismetry and saccadic eye movement. If there is no stimulant related to vision, how cerebellum is adopted under this circumstance? In order to explore this, 27 male and 16 female volunteers with bilateral congenital blindness were compared with 35 male and 33 female healthy volunteers in this study. The testicular measurement is important criteria for experimental researches especially in toxicological studies and the prediction of spermatogenesis. In light of this knowledge, we aimed to estimate and compare these parameters in two different kinds of cattle breeds. The gross anatomical measurements were performed by vernier caliper, volume of the testis was estimated by Cavalieri method and seminiferous tubule diameter was measured on the histological sections by software-loaded computer attached to microscope. Easy and Unbiased Determination of the Maxillary Sinus Volume International Journal of Morphology

Determining the volume of the maxillary sinus is necessary in certain procedures. We present a simple method for estimating the volume of the maxillary sinus from groups 3, 5 and 9 coronal CT scan using the Cavalieri method combined with systematic sampling and evaluated randomized images. We used 10 dry skulls submitted to the TC. The actual volume was determined using silicone adapted to the maxillary sinus cavity. The estimated volume showed a high correlation with real volume, with no differences between groups. We concluded that it is possible to estimate without bias and with high accuracy the volume of the maxillary sinus from a minimum of 3 CT images obtained through randomized systematic sampling and the proposed method.

Prognosis of the Volume Growth of Eucalypts Trees, in Plantations, in the Southern Region of Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

This paper deals with the prognosis of the individual volumetric growth of Eucalyptus species in the Brazilian South Region. It was accomplished in a fertilizer trial with Eucalyptus dunnii and a competition trial among species (E. bicostata, E. “cambiju” - natural hybrid, E. deanei and E. viminalis) implanted in Vila Velha, PR. The method of successive regressions, modified to the exponential form, including the volume at three years of age and survival was applied. The results gave evidence of acceptable efficiency of the method to estimate individual volumetric growth of the trees of the stands, especially for E. deanei and E. dunnii, species well adapted to the region. This study aimed to adjust volumetric models to tropical pines, in pure stand, in the municipality of Vilhena, Rondonia State.  The data came from 20 felled trees of Pinus caribaea var.  hondurensis and 10 Pinus tecunumanii trees with discs collected at fixed positions of 0.20 m, 0.70 m, 1.30 m and in distances of one meter along the stem, for later counting and measurement of the growth rings at ages from 4 to 12 years. Equations for calculation of volume and weight of aerial compartiments of eight-year-old Grevillea robusta (Cunn.) trees PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

This paper presents results obtained for fitting equations to estimate volume and weight of aerial compartments of Grevillea robusta trees. Twelve trees representing four provenances were collected from an eight-year-old provenance trial located in the municipality of Anhembi, State of São Paulo. The trunks of the trees were segmented until the minimum diameter of 5 cm. The heartwood was measured till the height it was possible to be distinguished in the tree. Allometric models were the most suitable for this paper proposes. Comparison of microscopic method and computational program for pesticide deposition evaluation of spraying PAB

The main objective of this work was to compare two methods to estimate the deposition of pesticide applied by aerial spraying. Hundred and fifty pieces of water sensitive paper were distributed over an area of 50 m length by 75 m width for sampling droplets sprayed by an aircraft calibrated to apply a spray volume of 32 L/ha. The samples were analysed by visual microscopic method using NG 2 Porton graticule and by an image analyser computer program. The results reached by visual microscopic method were the following: volume median diameter, 398±62 mum; number median diameter, 159±22 mum; droplet density, 22.5±7.0 droplets/cm² and estimated deposited volume, 22.2±9.4 L/ha. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desenvolvimento da vegetação submersa, em termos da altura dos dosséis, considerando as dimensões espaço e tempo, usando técnicas de hidroacústica. Foram realizados dez levantamentos de campo no período de outubro de 2009 a dezembro de 2010, para aquisição de pontos georreferenciados de altura dos dosséis, frequência de ocorrência de vegetação, bem como de profundidade.
