Resumo: |
The role of the agricultural economist in rural extension is discussed with particular reference to the changing structure of extension, exemplified by the development of private consulting services and the changing orientation of extension from purely technical considerations to problems of management. The status of the agriculturist generally, and of the extension worker in particular, is also examined and it is concluded that the status of extension as a profession must be raised if the results of technical and economic research in agriculture are to be utilised effectively.
