Geographers have already been asking for a long time for studies to be carried out in the Arabic Sea. This Sea is bordered to the North and to the West by Arabia and Africa; regions where it seldom rains and, consequently, with a very low alluvium input. It is under the influence of the Red Sea through the Gulf of Aden, a basin more than 1 000 fathoms deep, with a low threshold of less 100 fathoms deep to the South. It is also under the influence of the Gulf of Oman, in which opens the very shallow Persian Sea where an important drainage of the earth brought by the Tigris and the Euphrates takes place.
Les Géographes ont longtemps demandé que des recherches soient faites dans la Mer d'Arabie. Cette mer est bornée au nord et à l'ouest par l'Arabie et l'Afrique, régions où l'on rencontre peu de pluviosité et par conséquent très peu d'apports d'alluvions. Elle subit l'influence de la Mer Rouge par l'intermédiaire du Golfe d'Aden, bassin de plus de 1.000 brasses de profondeur, mais présentant un seuil bas au sud de moins de 100 brasses ; elle subit aussi l'influence du Golfe d'Oman, dans lequel s'ouvre la mer peu profonde de Perse où se produit le grand draînage de terre apportée par le Tigre et l'Euphrate.
