A set of 41,241 SNP genotypes from 2,435 Hereford (HH) and Braford (BO) bovines were analyzed to estimate linkage disequilibrium (LD) levels, persistence of phase and effective population size of these populations. LD levels were estimated using the squared correlation of alleles at two loci (r2) at varying distances. Average r2 between adjacent SNP was 0.21 for HH and 0.16 for BO. Average inter-marker distance was 61 kb in both breeds. Useful LD values (r2>0.2) were observed at 0-60 kb bins in HH and 0-20 kb bins in BO. Breeds demonstrated moderate to strong persistence of phase at all distances (range=0.53-0.97). The greatest phase correlations (r>0.9) were found in 0-50 kb bins. Predicting enzyme class from protein structure parameters is a challenging problem in protein analysis. We developed a method to predict enzyme class that combines the strengths of statistical and data-mining methods. This method has a strong mathematical foundation and is simple to implement, achieving an accuracy of 45%. A comparison with the methods found in the literature designed to predict enzyme class showed that our method outperforms the existing methods. Studies are being conducted on the applicability of genomic data to improve the accuracy of the selection process in livestock, and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) provide valuable information to enhance the understanding on the genetics of complex traits. The aim of this study was to identify genomic regions and genes that play roles in birth weight (BW), weaning weight adjusted for 210 days of age (WW), and long-yearling weight adjusted for 420 days of age (LYW) in Canchim cattle. Background: Beef cattle breeding programs in Brazil have placed greater emphasis on the genomic study of reproductive traits of males and females due to their economic importance. In this study, genome-wide associations were assessed for scrotal circumference at 210 d of age, scrotal circumference at 420 d of age, age at first calving, and age at second calving, in Canchim beef cattle. Data quality control was conducted resulting in 672,778 SNPs and 392 animals.
