Allelopathic Effect of Lotus and Arrowhead Weed on Wheat, Wild Oat and Milkthistle Germination Planta Daninha
GUL,B.; IJAZ,S.; KHAN,H..
ABSTRACT: An experiment was conducted to investigate the allelopathic effects of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) and arrowhead (Sagittaria sagittifolia (Brummitt & Powell): L.) on seed germination of wheat and two associated weeds, namely, wild oat (Avena fatua L.) and milk thistle (Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn.). The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design during May, 2014. Dried biomasses of lotus and arrowhead leaves were soaked in distilled water for 48 hrs for extract preparation. The extracts were applied at a rate of 5 and 10% concentrations to the seeds of wheat, wild oat and milk thistle at 25 °C in 10 cm wide Petri plates. A control treatment where only distilled water was applied to the seeds, was included for comparison....

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) Hybrids Evaluation for Oil Quality and Yield Attributes under Spring Planting Conditions of Haripur, Pakistan Planta Daninha
IQRASAN,; QAYYUM,A.; KHAN,S.U.; KHAN,S.A.; MEHMOOD,A.; BIBI,Y.; SHER,A.; KHAN,H.; JENKS,M.A..
ABSTRACT Field experiment was conducted at the University of Haripur, Pakistan, to explore the role of photothermal units on oil contents, fatty acids profile, yield and yield traits of four sunflower hybrids viz SMH-0917, NK-S-278, SMH-0907 and Hysun-33. These sunflower hybrids were selected because the farmers of that area are mostly relying on these hybrids for sunflower production. Sunflower hybrids were sown in spring and arranged under Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications under field conditions. Significant variation (p 0.05%) was found among the sunflower hybrids for photothermal unit requirements for flower completion and physiological maturity. Highest photothermal unit accumulation was found in Hysun-33 followed by SMH-0917 and...

Effect of Herbicides on Yield and Yield Components of Hybrid Maize (Zea mays) Planta Daninha
KHAN,I.A.; HASSAN,G.; MALIK,N.; KHAN,R.; KHAN,H.; KHAN,S.A..
ABSTRACT Maize crop (Zea mays) is facing lots of problems from different pests throughout Asia, including Pakistan. Weed infestation is one of the serious pests that remarkably decrease the grain yield in maize. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, the trend of maize hybrid cultivation is gaining the attention of the farmers due to its higher production. Therefore, in this research we tested herbicides (Stomp 330 E, Dual gold 960 EC, 2,4-D, ester) in maize hybrids (P-3025, P-32T78, P-3203). The experiment was done in RCB design with split plots arrangement, where maize hybrids were kept in main plots, while herbicides were assigned to the subplots. Each treatment was repeated three times at the New Developmental Farm (NDF), at the Peshawar...
