| Four laboratories are involved in this multidisciplinary study: the Conchological Laboratory of Normandie (LCN), the Invertebrates Physiology Laboratory (LPI), the Université Bretagne Occidentale (LEMAR IHP) and the Conchological Laboratory of Poitou-Charentes (LCPC). The part of the study which is presented here (thematics "Coastal ecology") was produced in collaboration with the LCN. The data on the Bay of Veys was collected by Michel Ropert. This study aims at observing the "sites" effect on mortality and on the general biology of the animal, as well as measuring some environmental elements (e.g. water temperature, etc.). | The monitoring network IFREMER /REMORA is assessing, on a yearly basis two oyster batches ("juveniles" = one-year old ; and "adults" = two-years old), distributed among various stations of the main French oyster areas. Samplings are carried out in March, June, September and December. In this way this network assess seasonal mortality, growth and quality of cupped oysters, in which it is a tool for trend estimations, and then for ecosystem management or scientific studies. However, it must not be considered as an accurate estimation of professional oyster ongrowings. 2002 has been a year of very few mortality (6% in average for "adults" and 11% for juveniles). | The national REMORA network is targeted on the studies of growth, flesh quality and mortality of a sample of cupped oyster Crassostrea gigasdistributed on 9 stations along the coast of Normandy. As a better precision is needed for regional purpose, 7 new stations have been added. A total number of 16 stations is now sampled from Chausey to Meuvaines. Weak rates of mortality have been noticed in 2002 on both adults (7%) and spat (6 %). These rates are the weakest ever seen. The mortality rates in the Baie des veys were less than 10 %. | The network named REMONOR (REseau MOllusqueNORmandie) aims to assess mortality, growth and tissue quality of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, cultivated in Normandy over an annual cycle. This local network relies on the same material and methods as the national one named REMORA (REseau Mollusques Ressources Aquacoles). The study was carried out in 17 sites, which were distributed in the four basins where oyster rearing occurs in Normandy (West and East coast of Cotentin, Baie des Veys and Meuvaines). The network monitored 46 sites in 2004, including the 7 new sites added in 2003. The network REMORA thus assess seasonal survival, growth and quality of cupped oysters. It is a tool for trend estimations, ecosystem management and a reference frame for scientific studies. Globally speaking, the year 2004 was a good year for oyster farming, with a low mortality and a fast growth. The rearing yield (survival x growth) reached 2.0 for adults instead of 1.8 usually. | The blue mussel, Mytilus edulis has been reared along the Normandy coast line since the 1960s. The gonadal cycle of this mussel species shows a sharp decrease in meat quality during the winter period after spawning. This decline in meat quality is so severe that sales have to be suspended from December to July. Another species of mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, which is reared in the lagoons along the French shore of the Mediterranean Sea has a different spawning cycle. An experiment was undertaken to study the meat quality of M. Galloprovincialis throughout the year after the spat were transferred from the Mediterranean Sea to the Normandy coast. | En 2006, le cheptel d'origine d'huîtres adultes présentait un poids moyen individuel de 28,8g. La mise à l'eau s'est effectuée entre le 13 et le 17 mars 2006 sur les stations Manche et Atlantique et le 20 mars en Méditerranée. Au niveau national, la croissance observée en 2006 pour les adultes s'avère bonne, avec des valeurs supérieures à la moyenne en Normandie (+9,6%), en Bretagne Nord (+24,7%) et dans les Pays de la Loire (+11,7%). En revanche, les performances sont médiocres dans le bassin d'Arcachon (-13,3%).
