Yield and yield components of upland rice as influenced by nitrogen sources. Repositório Alice
FAGERIA, N. K.; MOREIRA, A.; COELHO, A. M..
Ammonium sulfate and urea are main sources of nitrogen (N) for annual crop production in developing countries. Two greenhouse experiments were conducted using ammonium sulfate and urea as N sources for upland rice grown on a Brazilian Oxisol. The N rates used were 0, 50, 100, 150, 3000, and 400 kg N kg?1 of soil. Yield and yield components were significantly increased in a quadratic fashion with increasing N rate. Ammonium sulfate X urea interaction was significant for grain yield, shoot dry matter yield, panicle number, plant height and root dry weight, indicating a different response magnitude of these plant parameters to two sources of N. Based on regression equation, maximum grain yield was achieved with the application of 380 mg N kg?1 by ammonium...

Yield efficiency for nine apple cultivars grafted on two rootstocks. Repositório Alice
FIORAVANÇO, J. C.; CZERMAINSKI, A. B. C.; OLIVEIRA, P. R. D. de.
ABSTRACT Currently, using smaller trees is one of the most important trends in apple cultivation. It is expected that reduced size plants produce lower amount of fruit, but with high yield and yield efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield efficiency (YE) of nine apple tree cultivars, grafted on two rootstocks, from the second to the seventh year after planting. The YE indexes oscillated from one to the other year, regardless of rootstock. Correlations between YE and yield per tree and between YE and trunk cross sectional area (TCSA) confirmed that efficiency can be increased by the production increment or by the plant?s vigor reduction. The usefulness of cumulative YE (ƩYE) is highlighted to compare apple tree cultivars after...

Yield, foliar concentration, and efficiency of extractant solutions with boron application in a Xanthic Ferralsol cultivated with banana in Central Amazon. Repositório Alice
MOREIRA, A.; CASTRO, C. de; FAGERIA, N. K..
Boron is known to play important role in the structure of cell wall, membranes, and membrane-associated functions in plants. In soil, the hot water B extraction method has been extensively used, however, difficulties with this procedure result in low accuracy and precision of extraction of available boron (B) in soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the Yield, foliar concentration, and efficiency of B extracting solutions and the effect of B fertilization on B uptake in banana leaves and fruits, subgroup Cavendish (AAA), cultivated in a Xanthic Ferralsol (dystrophic Yellow Latosol), in the Amazonas State, Brazil. The experimental design was a completely randomized split plot, comprising four boron rates (0, 4, 8, and 12 kg ha-1), and two...

Yield losses due to inbreeding and the use of molecular markers (RAPD) for assessment to genetic purity in hybrid corn (Zea mays L.) Repositório Alice
ANDREOLI, C.; CARVALHO, C. C.; ANDRADE, R. V. de..
The production of hybrid corn (Zea mays L.) requires the complete removal of pollen of the female parent prior to pollination. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the percentage of female selfed plants that results in losses due to inbreeding and to assess the usefulness of RAPD approach in monitoring genetic purity of three kinds of commercial hybrid maize. Contamination levels of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 8% and 10% in the female parent HS for seed production of hybrids BRS 201 and BRS 205 were used. In another trial, contamination levels of 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, 8% and 10% were used in the BRS 3123 hybrid seeds. Contamination level was monitored leaving female plants without detasseling in the hybrid production field. Determination of cob...

Yield losses in dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) caused by angular leaf spot (Isariopsis griseola Sacc.). Repositório Alice
RAVA SEIJAS, C. A.; SARTORATO, A.; CARVALHO, J. R. P. de..
Angular leaf spot, incited by Isariopsis griseola Sacc., has become one of the most important diseases of dry beans in Brazil. In the past, it was considered to be a disease of minor importance due to its low incidence and late appearance in the growing season. However, these facts have changed and angular leaf spot has cause severe yield losses in some bean production areas. This study was conducted during 1981-83 at Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Arroz e Feijão in order to assess yield losses in dry beans caused by this disease.

Yield, market quality, and leaf sopts partial resistance of interspecific peanut progenies. Repositório Alice
SUASSUNA, T. de M. F.; SUASSUNA, N. D.; MORETZSOHN, M. de C.; BERTIOLI, S. C. de M. L.; BERTOLI, D. J.; MEDEIROS, E. P. de.
Development of leaf spots resistant runner peanut cultivars is one of the major demands in Brazil. In the 2009/10 crop season, 12 pre-breeding progenies (LPM) were selected out of 380 plants of an interspecific BC1F3 population for leaf spots resistance and agronomic traits. In the 2010/11, the 12 LPMs were evaluated for leaf spots resistance, without fungicide sprays. The recurrent parent (susceptible control) and all LPMs were susceptible; partial resistant segregating plants were selected. Some progenies had yield, pod and seed shape similar to the control. The 12, and the 5 LPMs selected in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 crop seasons, respectively, were evaluated under appropriate disease management. Differences were detected for pod yield and weight of 100...
