Columactinastraea anthonii sp. nov. (Scleractinia, Astrocoeniina), a new coral species from the Maastrichtian (Upper Cretaceous) of The Netherlands Naturalis
Leloux, J..
Only four cerioid species of scleractinian corals have been described from the Maastrichtian in its type area; the montlivaltiid Isastrea angulosa (Goldfuss, 1826), and the astrocoeniids Actinastrea goldfussi d’Orbigny, 1849, A. faujasi (Quenstedt, 1881) and Columastrea fallax Umbgrove, 1925. A lectotype is selected for the latter species. A new cerioid species, Columactinastraea anthonii sp. nov., is recorded from the middle part of the Meerssen Member (Maastricht Formation) at the ENCI Quarry, Zuid Limburg, The Netherlands. It is well-preserved and differs from other Columactinastraea species mainly by the relatively large diameter of its lumen.

Comments on Acantinella, Preangeria and Taurasia (Muricidae, Drupinae) Naturalis
Beets, C..
A number of species of Drupinae, all quite unusual faunal elements, which up to now have been assigned to such genera as Taurasia, apparently confined to the South European Miocene, or Preangeria, Acantinella and Acanthinucella of the Southeast Asian Miocene are reconsidered. On the basis of their unique columellar features it is presently proposed to unite Acantinella, Preangeria and Taurasia, the last name taking priority. Two new species are described: Taurasia niasensis and T. pendopoensis, from Indonesian Plio-Pleistocene and Miocene, respectively. A living Indo-Western Pacific species, called Purpura buccinea since 1844, is reclassified as presumably the only representative of Taurasia in the Recent fauna known to date.

Comments on some new occurrences of heteromorph ammonites in the Lower Cretaceous (late Valanginian — early Barremian) of the Eastern Alpine and Western Carpathian systems Naturalis
Vasícek, Z..
New records of heteromorph ammonites from the Silesian Unit of the Outer Western Carpathians (Czech Republic) are represented especially by small pyrite steinkerns with suture lines preserved. A lesser proportion of them belongs to representatives of the subfamily Bochianitidae from the Valanginian. Among the most interesting is Baculina rouyana d’Orbigny. Another group consists primarily of lower Barremian Leptoceratoidinae. In addition to commonly occurring species of Hamulinites and Leptoceratoides, an Eoheteroceras assemblage is often found, represented partially by new elements. Heteromorphs from the Northern Calcareous Alps (Austria) come from marly Hauterivian limestones. Ptychoceras meyrati is present through most of the Hauterivian. Well-dated...

Considerations on most Rugosa and the Dividocorallia from de Groot’s (1963) collection Naturalis
Fedorowski, J..
Rugose corals reinvestigated herein constitute the main part of the collection described by de Groot (1963). The taxonomy proposed herein differs in several instances from that accepted originally by de Groot. Some changes, such as Petalaxis for Lithostrotionella and Calophyllum instead of Polycoelia, were already introduced in de Groot’s unpublished catalogue. Others were introduced in order to match the recent advances in rugose coral systematics. Most systematic changes were based on new microstructural, diagenetic and hystero-ontogenetic studies. These are described in detail for individual species and briefly discussed in the concluding considerations. Trabecular microstructure of septa and its diagenetic alteration was documented for most species....

Contribution to the Triassic ostracode faunas of the Betic Zone (southern Spain) Naturalis
Kozur, H.; Kampschuur, W.; Mulder-Blanken, C. W. H.; Simon, O.J..
Ostracodes are reported for the first time from epimetamorphic, strongly tectonized Triassic rock sequences from the internal part of the Betic Cordilleras. Three ostracode-zones have been established. The lower and middle zones are attributed to the Late Ladinian (Longobardian) and the upper zone to the Early Carnian (Cordevolian). Several new species and subspecies are described (Acratina muelleri, Judahella pulchra posterospinosa, Falloticythere mulderae, F. rondeeli, Lutkevichinella? egeleri, Mostlerella blumenthali blumenthali, M. b. minuta, Leviella sohni) and a new genus (Falloticythere). The microfaunas — and especially the ostracodes — appear to be very helpful for a precise dating of the Triassic sequences in the Betic Zone. This has allowed...

Correlation of Albian European and Tethyan ammonite zonations and the boundaries of the Albian Stage and substages: some comments Naturalis
Owen, H.G..
Although the so-called ‘standard’ ammonite zonation of the Albian contains index species which occur in the Tethyan province, the scheme largely reflects the faunal succession in the European faunal province with its endemic sonneratiinid and hoplitinid faunal elements. Workers in the Tethyan province, stretching from South America in the west to Australia in the east, including southern Africa, Madagascar and India, face problems in the correlation of their successions with this so-called ‘standard’ scheme. There are other problems in that the succession of hoplitinid ammonites used in the biostratigraphy of European Albian sediments allows a far more detailed zonation to be made than in the case of some of the longer time-ranging Tethyan forms. This...

Cretaceous Bryozoa from the Campanian and Maastrichtian of the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains, United States Naturalis
Taylor, P.D.; McKinney, F.K..
The Late Cretaceous bryozoan fauna of North America has been severely neglected in the past. In this preliminary study based on museum material and a limited amount of fieldwork, we describe a total of 128 Campanian-Maastrichtian bryozoan species from Delaware, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. Eighty-two of these species are new, as are five (Basslerinella, Pseudoallantopora, Kristerina, Turnerella and Peedeesella) of the 77 genera. One new family, Peedeesellidae, is proposed. Cheilostomes, with 94 species (73 per cent of the total), outnumber cyclostomes, with 34 species (27 percent), a pattern matching that seen elsewhere in the world in coeval deposits. There appear to be very...

Cricetidae and Gliridae (Rodentia, Mammalia) from the Miocene and Pliocene of southern Spain Naturalis
García-Alix, A.; Minwer-Barakat, R.; Martín-Suárez, E.; Freudenthal, M..
Several Miocene and Pliocene continental fossiliferous localities in the Granada and Guadix basins have yielded fossil micromammals. Cricetids and glirids are known from most of these localities. This paper deals with the genera Apocricetus, Ruscinomys, Blancomys and Eliomys. The Cricetidae are important biostratigraphical markers, especially Apocricetus. The presence of A. barrierei in the locality PUR-4 indicates the beginning of the Early Ruscinian. The continuous record of Ruscinomys during the Late Turolian and the Early Ruscinian corroborates the lineage between R. schaubi and R. lasallei. The occurrence of a large specimen of Blancomys in the Granada Basin seems to indicate two phylogenetic lineages during the Late Turolian. The studied specimens of...

Cricetidae (Rodentia) from the Neogene of Gargano (Prov. of Foggia, Italy) Naturalis
Freudenthal, M..
Hattomys, a new genus of Cricetidae, is described and three new species H. beetsi, H. nazarii and H. gargantua are attributed to it. Hattomys are very large cricetids, and the evolution of the genus is characterized by a considerable increase in size, and an increasing predominance of ridges over cusps. The supposedly oldest Gargano localities yielded, apart from the lineage H. beetsi-nazarii-gargantua, some scarce material of three other hamster species: a Megacricetodon, a Cricetulodon and a Cricetus. Comparison with the Spanish sequences of rodent faunas shows that the Gargano faunas probably are of late Turolian age, equivalent of the Messinian.

Cricetidae (Rodentia, Mammalia) from the upper Oligocene of Mirambueno and Vivel del Rio (prov. Teruel, Spain) Naturalis
Freudenthal, M..
The Cricetidae from a number of Oligocene mammal-bearing localities near Montalbán (prov. Teruel, Spain) are described. The cricetid fauna is characterised by the dominance, both in number of species and in number of specimens, of the subfamily Pseudocricetodontinae. A local faunal zonation on the basis of Cricetidae is given. Two new species are described: Eucricetodon martinensis sp. nov., and Allocricetodon cornelii gen. nov., sp. nov.

Crustaceans of the upper Miocene August Town Formation of southeastern Jamaica Naturalis
Collins, J.S.H.; Donovan, S.K.; Stemann, T.A.; Blissett, D.J..
Crustaceans remain poorly known from the Miocene of Jamaica. Herein, we report three species from the upper Miocene August Town Formation of Fowl House Spring, parish of St. Thomas, southeast Jamaica; poorly preserved propodi of a mud shrimp, “Callianassa” sp.; the anterior part of the carapace of Mithraculus sp. aff. Mithraculus coryphe (Herbst); and the cirripede Tetraclita sp. cf. T. stalactifera (Lamarck). Mithraculus sp. aff. M. coryphe at Fowl House Spring considerably extends the stratigraphic occurrence of the genus in the Antillean region down into the Miocene. Hitherto, fossil T. stalactifera in the Caribbean was known from the Plio-Pleistocene of Curaçao and the Pleistocene of Venezuela.
