Effect of buctril super (Bromoxynil) herbicide on soil microbial biomass and bacterial population BABT

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of bromoxynil herbicide on soil microorganisms, with the hypothesis that this herbicide caused suppression in microbial activity and biomass by exerting toxic effect on them. Nine sites of Punjab province (Pakistan) those had been exposed to bromoxynil herbicide for about last ten years designated as soil 'A' were surveyed in 2011 and samples were collected and analyzed for Microbial Biomass Carbon (MBC), Biomass Nitrogen (MBN), Biomass Phosphorus (MBP) and bacterial population. Simultaneously, soil samples from the same areas those were not exposed to herbicide designated as soil 'B' were taken. Use of Pseudomonas stutzeri and Candida utilis in the improvement of the conditions of Artemia culture and protection against pathogens BJM

To evaluate the effect of two bacterial strains isolated from Artemia cysts and yeast (Candida utilis) on the survival, growth and total biomass production of its larvae, challenge tests were performed with Candida utilis, Pseudomonas stutzeri and Pasteurella haemolityca. In addition, a pathogenic strain of Vibrio alginolyticus was tested for comparative purposes. Pseudomonas stutzeri and Candida utilis have no impact on survival, but enhance growth and total biomass production of the larvae. However, we noted that Pasteurella haemolityca affect negatively Artemia larvae. Bacterial Dynamics in a Microphytobenthic Biofilm: a Tidal Mesocosm Approach ArchiMer

In intertidal mudflats, during low tide exposure, microphytobenthos (MPB) migrate vertically through the surface sediment and form, with the heterotrophic bacteria, a transient biofilm. Inside this biofilm, multiple interactions exist between MPB and bacteria. These micro-organisms secrete a wide range of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), which are major components of the biofilm matrix. In this study, we used a tidal mesocosm experiment in order to decipher the interactions of the MPB-EPS-bacteria complex within the biofilm. Bacillus and Lactobacillus are bacteria that usually contaminate the ethanolic fermentation by yeasts and may influence yeast viability. As microorganisms can be killed by ionizing radiation, the efficacy of gamma radiation in reducing the population of certain contaminating bacteria from sugarcane must was examined and, as a consequence, the beneficial effect of lethal doses of radiation on some parameters of yeast-based ethanolic fermentation was verified. The spore production "in vitro" of 43 combinations of agroindustrial by-products (cheese whey, silkworm flour, soybean protein and foder yeast) was evaluated. All media tested showed to be suitable for Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki Berliner production and the concentration of spores obtained in these media varied from 10(6) to 10(9) spores/ml.

During sea-ice melt in the Arctic, primary production by sympagic (sea-ice) algae can be exported efficiently to the seabed if sinking rates are rapid and activities of associated heterotrophic bacteria are limited. Salinity stress due to melting ice has been suggested to account for such low bacterial activity. We further tested this hypothesis by analyzing samples of sea ice and sinking particles collected from May 18 to June 29, 2016, in western Baffin Bay as part of the Green Edge project. This study had analyzed the antibacterial, antifungal and trypanocidal activity of the essential oils from Cinnamodendron dinisii Schwacke (Canellaceae) and Siparuna guianensis Aublet (Siparunaceae). The essential oils were obtained from fresh leaves by hydrodistillation, using a modified Clevenger apparatus. Chemical analysis by gas-liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed that these essential oils are rich in monoterpene and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção de ácido indol-acético de bactérias, isoladas a partir da Coroa de frade (Melocactus sp.). Para as avaliações foram coletadas três amostras de raízes de Coroa de Frade (Melocactus sp.) de duas áreas diferentes. O isolamento das bactérias, as raízes foram lavadas e, desinfestadas. As amostras foram fragmentadas e diluídas, em meio semissólido BMGM e aqueles que desenvolveram película foram considerados positivos para determinação das populações de bactérias diazotróficas e foram purificadas em placas de Petri contendo meio Dyg's. Activated sludge and facultative lagoons are commonly used for domestic and industrial wastewater treatment due to their low-cost and minimal need for operational requirements. Microorganisms present in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) are responsible for most nutrient removal. Direct RAPD evaluation of bacteria without conventional DNA extraction BABT

The present work reports successful DNA amplification of Pantoea agglomerans and Bacillus pumilus through Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). For this, template DNA was obtained without conventional DNA extraction. The procedure was as follows: cultures grown for 20 hours in 5 mL LB medium were centrifuged and the resulting preparation was suspended in TE buffer. After boiling, the cell suspension was diluted and 2.0 µl were used in reactions of 15 µl. The results showed no significant differences among the RAPD profile of the PCR reactions derived from the boiling and phenol extraction methods, suggesting the utilization of this method for genetic population analysis.

Since several years, the French oyster farming copes with high mortality affecting juveniles and some adults of the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. Studies conducted in the framework of a multidisciplinary project (MOREST) showed that mortality was related to several factors like physiological and genetic status of oyster, pathogens including bacteria of the genus Vibrio, and revealed that the sediment, on which the oyster cages are installed, might play a particular role. This has been suggested because of the concomitance of the mortalities and increased toxic compounds like ammonia and sulphides in the sediment. In Brazil, the most common bacterial enteric diseases affecting growing and finishing pigs are porcine proliferative enteritis, porcine intestinal spirochetosis, swine dysentery, and salmonellosis. The diagnosis of these diseases by routine culture techniques is expensive, difficult, time-consuming, and even impossible, in cases of porcine proliferative enteritis. O cancro bacteriano da videira é causado pela bactéria Xanthomonas campestris pv. viticola (Nayudu) Dye, tendo sido descrito, pela primeira vez, na Índia, no ano de 1969. Esta bactéria foi detectada pela primeira vez, no Brasil, em março de 1998, em Petrolina-PE, no Vale do São Francisco e, até este momento, só havia tido um único registro em todo o mundo. Apesar do cancro bacteriano ter sido encontrado infectando plantas jovens da cultivar Red Globe esta cultivar já havia sido introduzida no Vale do São Francisco desde o ano de 1984, proveniente dos Estados Unidos.
