Germline mutation analysis of Tpit in Poodle dogs with ACTH-dependent hyperadrenocorticism Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
De Marco,V.; Carvalho,L.R.; Billerbeck,A.E.C.; Mendonça,B.B..
There is a high incidence of pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (PDH) in Poodle dogs, with family members being affected by the disease, suggesting a genetic involvement. Tpit is an obligate transcription factor for the expression of pro-opiomelanocortingene and for corticotroph terminal differentiation. The aim of the present study was to screen the Tpit gene for germline mutations in Poodles with PDH. Fifty Poodle dogs (33 female, 8.71±2.8 years) with PDH and 50 healthy Poodle dogs (32 females, 9.4241 2.8 years) were studied. Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood, amplified by PCR and submitted to automatic sequence. No mutation in the coding region of Tpit was found, whereas the new single nucleotide polymorphism p.S343G, in heterozygous...

Haematological alterations in dogs infected with Hepatozoon canis MV&Z
Borges, Cleibiane Evangelista Franco; Figueiró, Bráulio de Sousa; Gomide, Cássio Ribeiro; Alvarenga, Tania Maria Pereira; de Mesquita Neto, Francisco Duque.
The hepatozoonosis is a disease that mostly affects domestic carnivores, caused by the protozoan Hepatozoon spp that has ticks of the species Riphicephalus sanguineus as the main vector. In Brazil, the Hepatozoon canis has already been diagnosed in several states and the confirmation of hepatozoonosis is made through the parasite visualization on blood smears. The hematologic changes described in infected dogs are anemia, leukocytosis and thrombocytopenia. For being little investigated, the disease is often discarded as clinical suspicion, compromising the clinical diagnosis. This study aimed to analyze blood counts perfomed from March to August 2014, in Clinical Pathology Laboratory of the Federal University of Lavras searching for the presence of H....

Andrades,A.O.; Mazzanti,A.; Beckmann,D.V.; Aiello,G.; Chaves,R.O.; Santos,R.P..
The present study aimed to assess the heat generated by a therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) in a metal bone plate and adjacent structures after fixation to the femur of canine cadavers. Ten pairs of hind limbs were used, and they were equally distributed between groups that were subjected to 1- and 3-MHz frequencies, with each frequency testing 1- and 2-W/cm² intensities. The right hind limb was defined as the control group (absence of the metal plate), and the left hind limb was the test group (presence of the metal plate). Therefore, the control groups (CG) were denominated CGI, using TUS with 1-MHz frequency and 1-W/cm² intensity; CGII, using 1-MHz frequency and 2-W/cm² intensity; CGIII, using 3-MHz frequency and 1-W/cm² intensity; and CGIV, using 3-MHz...

Hemangiopericytoma in a female dog with direct invasion of abdominal cavity and pulmonary metastasis Ciência Rural
Silva,Elisângela Olegário da; Romero,Fernanda; Green,Kerriel Thandile; Martins,Maria Isabel Mello; Bracarense,Ana Paula Frederico Rodrigues Loureiro.
An intact adult female Poodle dog was presented with a history of an increase in volume in the left and right mammary inguinal glands. The histopathological examination revealed a proliferation of spindle cells arranged in bundles with concentric arrangements surrounding blood vessels, occasionally collapsed. Three weeks after the surgery, the animal presented a recurrence of the tumor that extended from the left inguinal mammary gland to the vulva. Necropsy revealed direct invasion of the abdominal cavity by the tumor and pulmonary metastasis. The definitive diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma was made by histopathological and immunohistochemical examination. Pulmonary metastasis of CHP (canine hemangiopericytoma) is rare and there is no previous report of...

Ferreira,W.L.; Sousa,R.C.A.; Camacho,A.A..
The occurrence of late potentials in dogs under doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy and their relationship with the development of ventricular arrhythmias or sudden death were studied. Seven adult mongrel dogs of both sexes were used. Cardiomyopathy was induced by slow intravenous infusion of doxorubicin (30mg/m²) at 21-day intervals, until a total cumulative dose of 240mg/m² was reached. Animals were monitored by echocardiography. After the induction of cardiomyopathy, high-resolution electrocardiography was recorded. Late potentials were observed in two animals that suddenly died a few days later.

ABSTRACT Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) comprise a heterogeneous group of malignancies derived from extra-skeletal mesenchymal tissues that may show similar histopathological changes. Histopathologic patterns suggestive of perivascular wall tumors (PWT) and peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) have been described. This study investigated the histogenesis in a series of 71 cases of canine STS that showed morphological compatibility with what is described for PWT and PNST. Immunohistochemistry analysis were done to CD56, S100, SMA, Desmin, Von Willebrand Factor, NSE and GFAP. Twenty-one cases (29.6%) showed histopathologic features compatible with PWT, 23 cases (32.4%) with PNST and 27 cases (38.0%) shared both histopathological features. By...

Identification and antimicrobial susceptibility of bacteria isolated from corneal ulcers of dogs Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Prado,M.R.; Brito,E.H.S.; Girão,M.D.; Sidrim,J.J.C.; Rocha,M.F.G..
A total of 22 clinical specimens were obtained from 19 dogs with corneal ulcer (16 unilateral and three bilateral) for isolation and antimicrobial susceptibility evaluation of the isolated bacteria. Bacterial growth was observed in 100% of the samples (n=22). Staphylococcus intermedius was the predominant species (35.5%), followed by Corynebacterium xerosis (19.3%). Gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol and tobramycin had a high efficacy against all of the isolated bacteria. The results evidenced that 80.7% of the isolates were Gram positive cocci and Gram positive bacilli, and that those microorganisms were sensitive to gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol and tobramycin.
