Bioimpedance as a Non-Invasive Method to Evaluate Eggs and Poultry Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Klein,DR; Vale,MM; Silva,LP; Santos,JPA; Branco,T; Fernandes,MO.
ABSTRACT The need to comply with animal welfare has motivated the research for non-invasive methods that allow the evaluation of poultry and eggs to be painless while providing accurate measurements. In this scenario, bioelectrical impedance was tested as a minimally invasive tool for sexing day-old chicks of two different chicken strains and for evaluating the quality of eggs submitted to different days of storage relative to their hatchability. The resistance and phase angle measured allowed the differentiation between chicken strains, but not between sexes. Eggs stored for seven days showed higher resistance and lower phase angle those stored for only one day. Although the bioimpedance method seems to be a promising method to evaluate egg and chick...

Comparison of Several Turning Frequencies During the Storage Period of Red-Legged Partridge (Alectoris rufa) Hatching Eggs Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
González-Redondo,P; Martínez-Domínguez,AR.
ABSTRACT The effects of three egg-turning regimes during the pre-incubation storage period on egg weight loss, hatchability, embryonic mortality, chick weight at hatching and incubation length of red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) compared with unturned eggs were investigated. Two hundred eggs were allocated to four 50-egg batches stored at 15ºC and 80% RH that being turned one, four and 24 times a day or remaining unturned, respectively. Eggs were incubated at 37.8ºC and 55% RH during the first 21 days and at 37.5ºC and 75% RH until hatching. Fertility was 70.5% and a good hatchability performance was obtained, characterised by 81.6% hatchability of fertile eggs, and weight losses of 0.78% during storage and of 10.04% during the first 21 days of...

Egg quality of laying hens in different conditions of storage, ages and housing densities R. Bras. Zootec.
Menezes,Pasquoal Carrazzoni de; Lima,Evilda Rodrigues de; Medeiros,Juliana Pinto de; Oliveira,Wanessa Noadya Ketruy de; Evêncio-Neto,Joaquim.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of eggs from Dekalb White hens under different temperatures (room temperature, 25 ºC; and refrigeration, 8 ºC), storage times (7, 14 and 21 days), age of birds (35, 40, 45 and 50 weeks) and housing densities (625, 500, 416.6 and 357.14 cm²/birds). Haugh unit (HU) values and albumen height of 1,120 eggs from 528 laying hens, randomly allocated to four groups with different population densities were evaluated. The results showed a significant effect on Haugh units, between the time and storage conditions and between the ages of laying hens and storage condition. Eggs stored in refrigeration showed less weight loss and better Haugh unit indices when compared with eggs stored at room temperature. The...

Impacts of Breeder Age, Storage Time and Setter Ventilation Program on Incubation and Post-Hatch Performance of Broilers Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Okur,N; Eleroğlu,H; Türkoğlu,M.
ABSTRACT The impacts of breeder age (32 and 55 weeks), egg storage time (2-12 days), setter ventilation program (control-test) on incubation and post-hatch performance of broilers were investigated in this study. Young (Y) and old (O) breeders’ hatching eggs were incubated in two different setters operated by two different ventilation programs as control (C) and test (T). Incubation took place after a short (S) and long (L) time of storage in this study. According to the trial design, eight treatment groups were as YSC, YST, YLC, YLT, OSC, OST, OLC and OLT. In total 9600 eggs and 6400 chicks were used. Early stage embryonic mortality (ED) rates were lower and accordingly hatchability of fertile eggs (HF) were higher (p<0.05) in YS than the other...

The potential of Mythimna sequax Franclemont eggs for the production of Trichogramma spp. after cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Paixão,Magda Fernanda; Foerster,Luís Amilton; Foerster,Marion do Rocio.
ABSTRACT The cryopreservation of noctuid eggs in liquid nitrogen has proved be a promising tool in the mass production of Trichogramma, however studies into this technique have only just begun. This study evaluated the response of different densities of the female of Trichogramma pretiosum Riley to the parasitism of Mythimna sequax eggs stored and not stored in liquid nitrogen, and the performance of females reared only in cryopreserved eggs. The study evaluated the influence of the number of T. pretiosum females (4, 8 and 12) released to parasitise 40 M. sequax eggs, stored and not stored for 15 days in liquid nitrogen, as well as the performance of T. pretiosum females reared in eggs stored for three generations and females reared in non-stored eggs....

ผลของวิธีการเก็บรักษาไข่อาศัยต่อการเบียนของแตนเบียนไข่ Trichogramma spp. Thai Agricultural
Winipa Chaleecan; Nutcharee Siri.
The parasitoid, Trichogramma spp. was produced using the rice moth eggs Corcyra cephalonica as host. Thus, the study of storage methods was done for the right timing of the parasitoid application during the pest out break. Various storage methods were studied by comparing different set of packed eggs in tissue paper and fire mesh, and unpacked eggs. The eggs were then stored at 5±2°C and 7±2°C for 1-4 weeks. The interaction between temperatures and packing methods resulted in the reduction of egg weight. At 5±2°C reduced fewer egg weight and more larval emergence than that at 7±2°C. Additional emergences were found more in packing eggs with tissue paper than fine mesh and unpacked. The one week storage eggs at both temperatures showed more than 80%...
