Uncertainties Associated with Arithmetic Map Operations in GIS Anais da ABC (AABC)

Abstract Arithmetic map operations are very common procedures used in GIS to combine raster maps resulting in a new and improved raster map. It is essential that this new map be accompanied by an assessment of uncertainty. This paper shows how we can calculate the uncertainty of the resulting map after performing some arithmetic operation. Actually, the propagation of uncertainty depends on a reliable measurement of the local accuracy and local covariance, as well. In this sense, the use of the interpolation variance is proposed because it takes into account both data configuration and data values. USDA Forest Service Roadless Areas: Potential Biodiversity Conservation Reserves Ecology and Society

In January 2001, approximately 23 x 106 ha of land in the U.S. National Forest System were slated to remain roadless and protected from timber extraction under the Final Roadless Conservation Rule. We examined the potential contributions of these areas to the conservation of biodiversity. Using GIS, we analyzed the concordance of inventoried roadless areas (IRAs) with ecoregion-scale biological importance and endangered and imperiled species distributions on a scale of 1:24,000. We found that more than 25% of IRAs are located in globally or regionally outstanding ecoregions and that 77% of inventoried roadless areas have the potential to conserve threatened, endangered, or imperiled species. The assessment of the fishing industry on the southeast coast of Trinidad is taken from the regionally funded community-based coastal resource management project by the International Research Development Centre (IDRC) of Canada and entitled “An investigation of fisheries resources, resource users and fisheries management by communities to establish a framework for co-management: Ortoire to Guayaguayare, East Coast, Trinidad.” Part of this assessment was clearly describing the areas and communities where regular fishing activities take place and identifying any discernable patterns and trends.

A work of gathering historical fishing (catch, fishing effort, CPUE, characteristics and operation of purseiner fleet) and satellite (NOAA, SeaStar and SeaWind) database of northern Chile, and fishing and oceanographic in situ sampling for validation purpose is made. With this information and the use of geographical information system (GIS) the distribution of pelagic resources and the associated environmental conditions (sea surface temperature, thermal gradients, chlorophyll concentration and wind fields) are analysed in order to develop a probable fishing ground (PFG) index prediction model. Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar as formas de uso da Terra no municipio de Aquidauana, localizado no sudeste do Pantanal, em Mato Grosso do Sul. Foram mapeadas as areas antropicas e identificadas e quantificadas as respectivas classes tematicas de uso. Utilizaram-se imagens de satelite Landsat 5-TM, em papel, na escala 1:250.000, na composicao colorida 3B, 4G e 5R para espacializacao das informacoes e um Sistema de Informacoes Geograficas para a quantificacao das areas. A area do municipio foi calculada em 1.485.526 ha, dos quais 76,8% esta inserida na planicie do Pantanal. Neste trabalho e apresentado a evolucao temporal da vegetacao e suas relacoes com a degradacao ambiental numa area localizada no nordeste da comunidade de Madrid (Espanha). O metodo de estudo foi baseado na analise de duas imagens de satelite Landsat-5 sensor TM, integrando sensoriamento remoto, Sistema de Informacao Geografica e dados de campo na aplicacao do Indice de Vegetacao da Diferenca Normaliza (NDVI). As mudancas ocorridas no Indice de Vegetacao entre as duas datas estudadas revelam um processo de deterioracao de cobertura vegetal. Valuation of environmental impacts of the Rural Development Program - A hedonic model with application of GIS AgEcon

The payments within the Rural Development Programme 2007- 2013 seek to improve the environment and contribute to rural development and economic growth. These policy measures may therefore have visual effects on the rural landscape. To achieve a measure of willingness to pay for these effects, a hedonic pricing approach is applied. The prices for staying at holdings in the “Staying on farms” registry are used to quantify the valuation of these visual effects. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between the price of rental objects and spatial variables constructed in GIS. Zoning of rice production potential in Thai rice area has been conducted from 2000 to 2013. The objectives of the project were 1) to define the potential of rice area in Thailand in term of soil suitability and productivity, 2) to create map of rice production zoning with appropriate recommendation. Methodology to run the project consisted of secondary data collection, field survey, crop cutting, field experiment, and mapping. The research found that total of 12.6 M ha of rice areas in Thailand it was suitable for rice production about 8.2 M ha. Rice soil was more fertile in the central plain as compared to other region. This research had evaluated the yield of KDML105 rice variety using a knowledge-based system approach, subject to rainfall uncertainty in 6 different kinds of paddies that related to soil and hydrological variability, with 4 scenarios of sowing times and 2 sowing methods in a watershed area of Ubon Ratchathani province. Interactive EnvironmentalPolicy Impact Calculator (i_EPIC) model is an important tool for future agriculture and food security in Thailand. Its application requires both the identification of errors and the assessment of reliability and potential of the i_EPIC model and GIS technique in simulating rice yields. Rice yields estimated by EPIC (version 0509) were compared with agricultural statistics reports from Thailand’s Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC). 日本の最北端に位置する北海道の十勝地方音更町において,GIS 上に耕地防風林のデータベースを構築することにより,その実態を明らかにし,耕地防風林の減少に歯止めをかけることを目的とした。その結果,音更町の耕地防風林延長は,1995 年が242.3 km,2003 年が255.0 km であり,この8 年間で12.7 km 増加した。耕地防風林樹種別延長割合は,2003 年度においてカラマツ (Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carriere) 74.9%,シラカンバ(Betula platyphylla sukatchev var. japonica (Miq.) Hara)9.5%,トドマツ (Abies sachalinensis Fr. Schm.) 3.0%,アカエゾマツ (Picea glehnii (Fr. Schm.)
