ABSTRACT: Plants in soils with low water availability may present a reduction of their leaf area and photosynthetic rate, as well as lower assimilated compound supply for seeds. Knowing the physiological quality and seed production of weeds generated under water deficit conditions can help understanding the survival and competition strategies of species. Water stress induced by mannitol and sodium chloride in soybean cultivars BABT

Four soybean (Glycine max L. Merril.) cultivars were contrasted in relation to germination and vigour of seedlings, when seeds were submitted to water stress induced by mannitol or sodium chloride. Water stress affected seed germination and seedling development, however, seedling development was affect in higher osmotic potential (-0.3MPa) than the necessary to affect germination -1.2MPa when induced by mannitol or -0.6MPa when induced by sodium chloride. 'Pioneira' and 'Xingu' cultivars had high development in low water availability and/or salinity conditions.

This study aimed to assess the physiological quality of Parapiptadenia rigida (Benth.) Brenan seed weight classes subjected to accelerated aging under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. A lot of P. rigida seeds was split in three seed weight classes (thousand seed weight): TSW1 (original lot; control, 19.23 g), TSW2 (25.45 g) and TSW3 (13.58 g), which were subjected to three accelerated aging times (0, 24 and 48 h). The X-ray test is a precise, fast and non-destructive method to detect mechanical damage in seeds. In the present study, the efficiency of X-ray analysis in identifying the extent of mechanical damage in sweet corn seeds and its relationship with germination and vigor was evaluated. Hybrid 'SWB 551' (sh2) seeds with round (R) and flat (F) shapes were classified as large (L), medium (M1, M2 and M3) and small (S), using sieves with round and oblong screens. Abstract Auxin regulates a plethora of events during plant growth and development, acting in concert with other phytohormones. YUCCA genes encode flavin monooxygenases that function in tryptophan-dependent auxin biosynthesis. To understand the contribution of the YUCCA4 (YUC4) gene on auxin homeostasis, plant growth and interaction with abscisic acid (ABA) signaling, 35S::YUC4 seedlings were generated, which showed elongated hypocotyls with hyponastic leaves and changes in root system architecture that correlate with enhanced auxin responsive gene expression. การยืดอายุการเก็บรักษาเมล็ดพันธุ์หลักในสภาพควบคุมอากาศและความชื้น Thai Agricultural

Storage is a major problem for foundation seed production. Occasionally, deterioration occurred before planting time and low germination was shown. The experiment on extending storability of foundation seed in hermatic condition was conducted in Phatthalung Rice Research Center between May 2011 – April 2014. The two varieties; Chiang Phatthalung and Phitsanulok 2 were used in this experiment. Seed moisture content of approximate 10 tons in each variety was reduced to 10.44 and 11.24% in Chiang Phatthalung and Phitsanulok 2, respectively. Seeds were then put in plastic bag and stored in hermatic condition (cocoon) compared to normal storage (control). Seed drying to suitable moisture content during harvesting immediately and storage is a key factor to maintain a long-shelf life. The purpose of this research was to use the zeolite drying beads to dry rice seeds var. Phitsanulok 2 (PSL2) and Ayutthaya 1 (AYT1) to target moisture content at 6 % and 12 %. Three experiments were carried out at Prachinburi Rice Research Center during April 2012- January 2013. Rice seeds with the different initial moisture content were blended with three beads to seed ratios at 30oC, 40oC and ambient temperature. 玉米種子發芽之耐銨性及耐性組合力分析 Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute

[[abstract]]以6個玉米自交系及其相互雜交所獲得的30個Fl單交種為材料,在銨離子〔NH4+〕5種(0, 5, 25, 50, 100mM)濃度下,於恆溫(36±1℃)生長箱中進行發芽試驗。變方分析結果顯示銨離子濃度間、基因型間與銨離子濃度x基因型間之交感作用對所有發芽性狀均有極顯著之影響。其中發芽率、3日發芽勢和發芽係數呈現隨著銨離子濃度之增加而下降之趨勢,當銨離子濃度達50 mM以上時,即明顯的阻礙種子發芽。不同的基因型間其耐性程度也有所差異。由Griffing 之組合力分析,顯示平均發芽時間、發芽率、3日發芽勢和發芽係數均受一般組合力 (GCA)、特殊組合力 (SCA) 及正反交效應 (RE) 等遺傳基因所共同影響,其影響力之大小呈現GCA>RE>SCA之趨勢。在高銨濃度下 (50 mM以上)其GCA/SCA均方比值呈現小於低銨濃度(5-25mM)。所使用的自交系中以TA85-17、H95及A661具有較佳之耐銨性,而F1單交種中以ICAL210xA661、TA85-17Xa661及A661xTA85-17表現最佳之耐銨性。

臺南白玉米族群發芽之溫度反應 Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute

[[abstract]]為探討台南白玉米族群發芽之溫度反應及種子發芽最低、最適與最高三種基本溫度,本試驗將台灣不同地區(屏東、高雄、台南、雲林、台中、台北、花蓮、台東)所蒐集之台南白族群,於台中地區繁殖之後代為材料,利用生長箱於不同溫度下進行發芽試驗。試驗結果,八個族群各發芽性狀之溫度反應,一般皆呈發芽溫度愈高而發芽始期、有效發芽期間及平均發芽時間愈短之趨勢;而發芽率及發芽係數隨溫度升高而增加,至20℃~30℃時八個族群皆可達到最大,然而當溫度提升至35、40℃時則下降。綜合發芽率最高且平均發芽時間最快之溫度範圍,可知屏東、台南、雲林、台中、花蓮及台東族群最適發芽溫度為25~30℃,而高雄及台北族群最適發芽溫度則為30℃。八個地區族群種子最高發芽溫度為40~45℃。利用種子發芽所需最低溫及溫度時問估算式求得八個台南白玉米族群發芽最低溫之變異幅度為2.9℃~3.5℃,而發芽溫度時間之變異幅度為55.1~59.0℃d。
