A karyological analysis of an artificial hybridization (reciprocical crosses) between two African clariid catfish, #Clarias gariepinus$ (Burchell, 1822) and #Heterobranchus longifilis$ Valencienne, 1840, was performed. #C. gariepinus$ has a standard karyotype of 2n = 56, while #H. longifilis$ has 2n = 52. The hybrids revealed an intermediate karyotype (2n = 54), and it appears as if they have totalized the haploid chromosome number of both parental species, excluding gynogenesis or androgenesis. The hybridal karyotype is considered as aneuploid, although the hybrids proved to be fertile. No variation was found in the hybride karyotype. (Résumé d'auteur) |

Back-calculation usually requires measurements of growth marks revealed on otoliths by specific preparations. The standardization of the grinding (or sectioning) plane is necessary, but difficult, especially along the antero-posterior axis. In order to show the importance of the grinding plane, tetracycline labelling of eel otoliths (#Anguilla anguilla L.$) has been used. This marking has a calcio-traumatic effect on otoliths, which can be revealed with staining techniques. Unless the grinding plane is incorrect, the tetracycline labelling and the staining of the ground surface are then superposed. (Résumé d'auteur) |

Le polymorphisme de 19 locus codant pour des enzymes a été étudié dans six populations de #Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus$ Lacépède 1803 (#Pisces, Bagridae$), espèce utilisée en aquaculture africaine, et une population de #Chrysischthys johnelsi$ Daget 1959. La population de #C. nigrodigitatus$ du bassin du Niger (Bamako, Mali) est nettement différenciée des populations des bassins du Sassandra, du Bandama, de la Comoé et des lagunes Ebrié et Aby en Côte d'Ivoire (0,233 <D<0,266). The abundance, the seasonal variation and the life history of the silverside, #Atherinomorus lacunosus$, are studied from fish caught in the lagoons around New Caledonia. About 270 nights of fishing were carried out between 1980 and 1983. The silverside is present in most of the fishing hauls but seldom in large quantities. Fish reproduce from September to December at 1 year of age. At this time their size is about 10 cm. Mortality is high and a few individuals can survive a second year and reach 13 cm. Results from other studies indicate that in a less seasonally contrasted environment than the lagoons of New Caledonia, #A. lacunosus$ has several spawning periods during the year.
