Dynamique du phosphore et rôle comme facteur limitant de la production planctonique dans le panache de la Gironde sur le plateau continental Sud Gascogne ArchiMer
Labry, Claire.
This study was supported by the Atlantic working site of the « Programme National d’Océanographie Côtière » (PNOC, PNEC since 1999). The objectives were (1) to check the existence and to understand the mechanisms of winter phytoplankton blooms in the bay of Biscay influenced by the Gironde waters (2) to determine the limiting nutrient of the primary production associated to these blooms and to follow the seasonal evolution of the limiting nutrient, (3) to understand the consequences of this early limitation on the structuration of algal populations in spring. Since phosphorus was supposed to be the major limiting nutrient of algal growth in the Gironde plume, the different forms of the phosphorus cycle as well as the bacterial compartment, central in this...

Effect Of pH, Phosphate and/or Malate on Sulfate Sorption on Andisols R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Pigna,Massimo; Jara,Alejandra A; Mora,María de la Luz; Violante,Antonio.
The sulfate sorption was studied on Andisols with variable mineralogical composition and low organic matter content in presence and absence of phosphate or malate ligands at different pH. Crystalline clay mineralogy was similar for all the studied samples, except for the 2C horizon of the pedon 2, which did not show crystalline minerals. The soil samples showed content of allophane ranging from 16% to 42%. The sulfate adsorption decreased when descending the first 3 horizons (A1, 2A2 and 3Bw1) of the pedon 1. This behavior was attributed to the decreasing organic carbon content. At different pH sulfate sorption was drastically decreased by increasing the pH from 4.0 to 7.0, precisely by 80% for sample 5 to 100% for sample 1. Experiments on the competitive...

ABSTRACT A hydroponic experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of phosphorus (P) nutrition on arsenic (As) uptake and translocation within the seedlings of rice cultivars. The experiment occurred in three stages: I 5 days of acclimatization (nutritive solution); II 10 days under P (0.0 and 0.09 mM) and As (0.0 and 100 mM) treatments; III 5 days under recovery. The As exposure had significant effect reducing dry weights of shoots or roots, resulted in elevated concentrations of As in shoot tissues. BR-IRGA 409 showed the highest susceptibility to As in biomass production and root system parameters regardless the P level. This cultivar showed contrasting responses of As translocation to shoot tissue dependent on P levels, with the highest As...

Glyphosate sorption and desorption in soils with distinct phosphorus levels Scientia Agricola
Prata,Fábio; Cardinali,Vanessa Camponez do Brasil; Lavorenti,Arquimedes; Tornisielo,Valdemar Luiz; Regitano,Jussara Borges.
The sorption of glyphosate by soils occurs due to the inner sphere complex formation with metals of soil oxides, which are related to the soil phosphate adsorption capacity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of increasing rates of phosphorus on sorption and desorption of glyphosate in three soils with different mineralogical attributes. Soils were a Rhodic Kandiudalf, an Anionic Acrudox and a Typic Humaquept. Soil samples were amended with KH2PO4 at equivalent rates of 0; 1,000; 5,000; 20,000 and 50,000 kg ha-1 of P2O5, which are high from the agricultural point of view, but necessary in order to perform sorption and desorption studies. The experimental design consisted of a completely randomized factorial: 2 soils x 5 phosphorus rates and...

The low availability of phosphorus (P) in the soil and the high cost of P fertilization are factors that limit agricultural productivity. A biotechnological alternative for to handle this problem is to use soil microorganisms capable of dissolving rock phosphate (RP), thus improving its effectiveness as a P fertilizer. This study was carried out with the objective of determining the effectiveness of Aspergillus niger -As-, Penicillium sp. -Pn-, Bacillus sp -B-. and an unidentified actinomycete -At- in the in vitro dissolution of two partially acidulated rock phosphates. The treatments consisted of 2x16 factorial arrangement [2 levels of RP: either Boyaca RP or Norte de Santander RP; 16 levels of inoculum: an uninoculated control, individual...

Influência da adubação fosfatada e calagem sobre a absorção do zinco, em dois solos de Minas. Repositório Alice
BAHIA, F.G.F.T.C.; BRAGA, J.M..
Two experiments were installed in the greenhouse to study the relationships between phosphate fertilization, liming and zinc fertilization. One experiment used a red latosol soil while the other used a dark brown acid soil. Hybrid corn AG 206 was used to plant both experiments. The data collected consisted of dry matter productions level of zinc in the leaves, stems and tootes of the corn as well as the P/Zn and Ca/Zn rations in the leaves. Phosphate fertilization and liming lowed the level of zinc in the corn leaves to a point equal to or lower than 14 ppm. These leves were below 80% of the maximum yields of the experiments. The application of 4,5 ppm of zinc to the soil was adequate to raise the level of zinc in the leaves above the critical level. It...

Inter and intra-specific growth and domoic acid production in relation to nutrient ratios and concentrations in Pseudo-nitzschia : phosphate an important factor ArchiMer
Lema, Anais Kimberley; Latimier, Marie; Nezan, Elisabeth; Fauchot, Juliette; Le Gac, Mickael.
The factors responsible for inducing the synthesis of toxins and responses from toxic phytoplankton blooms remain unclear. In this study we compare the influence of genotypic (at both the intra and interspecific levels) and environmental factors (nutrient concentration and ratio) on growth (in terms of cell densities) and domoic acid (DA) production in three Pseudo-nitzschia species: P. australis, P.pungens and P.fradulenta. A strong phosphate effect was detected. More precisely, a low initial concentration in phosphate, even at high initial nitrogen and silicate concentrations, induced the highest DA concentrations and the lowest cell densities in all strains/species studied. In contrast, a low initial concentration of nitrogen and silicate combined, with...

Kinetics of phosphorus sorption in soils in the state of Paraíba¹ Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Santos,Hemmannuella Costa; Oliveira,Fábio Henrique Tavares de; Salcedo,Ignácio Hernan; Souza,Adailson Pereira de; Mota Silva,Valério Damásio da.
The soil P sorption capacity has been studied for many years, but little attention has been paid to the rate of this process, which is relevant in the planning of phosphate fertilization. The purpose of this experiment was to assess kinetics of P sorption in 12 representative soil profiles of the State of Paraíba (Brazil), select the best data fitting among four equations and relate these coefficients to the soil properties. Samples of 12 soils with wide diversity of physical, chemical and mineralogical properties were agitated in a horizontal shaker, with 10 mmo L-1 CaCl2 solution containing 6 and 60 mg L-1 P, for periods of 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 420, 720, 1,020, and 1,440 min. After each shaking period, the P concentration in the equilibrium...

L'eutrophisation des eaux marines et saumâtres en Europe, en particulier en France ArchiMer
Menesguen, Alain; Aminot, Alain; Belin, Catherine; Chapelle, Annie; Guillaud, Jean-francois; Joanny, Michel; Lefebvre, Alain; Merceron, Michel; Piriou, Jean-yves; Souchu, Philippe.
In order to be able to count the cases of coastal eutrophication and to propose methods to monitor as well as to reduce these phenomena, first of all it is necessary to precisely define the word eutrophication itself. Instead of the strict etymological definition, that is to say a progression of the enrichment of a medium, we will rather retain the concept of a state enriched at a point such as it causes harmful effects on the ecosystem, and nuisances to man's activities. Based on the average chemical equations of the organic matter synthesis/degradation in the sea, this operational definition thus puts forwards the harmful consequences of enrichment, i.e. the production of an excessive algal biomass, sometimes unbalanced from the point of view of...

Modifications of phosphorus in Latosol as a function of humic acids and acidity AGRIAMBI
Beck,Márcia H.; Escosteguy,Pedro A. V.; Dick,Deborah P..
ABSTRACT The effect of humic acids (HA) on phosphorus (P) availability is still contradictory; thus, it is necessary to identify the conditions that play a crucial role in this effect. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HA application, combined with doses of P, on the content of this nutrient in a Latosol with and without acidity correction. Two experiments were carried out, one with HA from peat and another with HA from mineral charcoal (leonardite). Doses of these acids (0; 1.12 and 5.62 mg C g-1 of soil) and P (26.2 and 104.7 mg P g-1 of soil, 1 and 4-fold higher than recommended, respectively) were tested at soil pH 4.5 and 7.0, in a three-factorial design. The soil was incubated for 20 days and the soil-P content was measured by...

Nutrient and phytoplankton biomass in the Amazon River shelf waters Anais da ABC (AABC)
Santos,Maria L.S.; Muniz,Kátia; Barros-Neto,Benício; Araujo,Moacyr.
The Amazon River estuary is notable at the Amazon Continental Shelf, where the presence of the large amount of water originating from the Amazon during the river's falling discharge period was made evident by the low salinity values and high nutrient levels. Even so, the presence of oceanic waters in the shelf area was significant. Dissolved organic nitrogen was the predominant species of the nitrogen cycle phases, followed by total particulate nitrogen, nitrate, ammonium and nitrite. The chlorophyll a data in the eutrophic area indicated that there is sufficient nitrogen in the area to withstand productivity, though dissolved inorganic nitrogen removal processes are faster than regeneration or mineralization. The anomalous amounts of inorganic dissolved...

Nutrient fluxes to the Bay of Biscay from Cantabrian rivers (Spain) ArchiMer
Prego, R; Vergara, J.
Nutrient fluxes to the Bay of Biscay from the Cantabrian basin have been quantified for the first time. Data between 1981 and 1995 of the main 16 Cantabrian rivers from the COCA monitoring programme have been used. Values of water flow and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), phosphate and silicate concentrations have been taken. Equations are proposed to quantify the fluvial nutrient contributions to the Cantabrian Sea. The annual average of continental outputs to the Bay of Biscay from the Cantabrian basin is 16.1 x 10(9) m(3) of freshwater, 1.0 x 10(9) mol of N in DIN, 0.062 x 10(9) mol of phosphate and 1.2 x 10(9) mol of silicate. In comparison with the French rivers, those of the Cantabrian have small fluxes and their outflow is very disperse, not...

In the Thau lagoon, blooms of the toxic microalgae Alexandrium catenella have induced regular losses of shellfish production since 1998 due to bioaccumulation of toxins in oysters and mussels. This thesis was conducted to enhance knowledge of toxic bloom development regulation by environmental factors, focusing on nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients influence on A. catenella growth. These works highlighted a large variety of potential nutritive sources for this species and a major part of these nutrients appeared to be potentially regenerated in the water column. Different organic sources may contribute to the growth of A. catenella from diverse nutrition processes: direct absorption through the cell membrane (for urea), enzymatic degradation in the...

Phosphorus availability as a function of its time of contact with different soils AGRIAMBI
Santos,Hemmannuella C.; Oliveira,Fábio H. T. de; Souza,Adailson P. de; Salcedo,Ignácio H.; Silva,Valério D. M..
ABSTRACT Phosphorus (P) availability is related to soil sorption capacity and is relevant to planning P fertilization and evaluating its residual effect. The aim of this work was to evaluate the P availability to maize plants after different incubation times of six soils from Paraíba state. For this, four doses of P (0, 100, 200 and 300 mg dm-3) were applied in samples of six soils for 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 240 and 360 days. After the incubation time, the soil samples received fertilization with macro and micronutrients and were cultivated with maize for 35 days, when they were harvested and analyzed to verify dry matter and P content in soil. The increase in the time of contact of P with the soil decreased P availability to plants; however, the formation of...
