Fertility life table (FLT) parameters are important quantitative indicators of interactions between arthropod population and the environment. By summarizing information on both fertility and survivorship, they can capture chronicle sub lethal effects not detected by acute survival assays (MARINHO-PRADO, 2011; NASCIMENTO et al., 1998; NARDO et al (2001) LIU et al, 2005; LUMBIERRES et al, 2004). In life table studies, oviposition and survival data are collected over time (usually daily) and summarized into fertility life tables (FLT) for posterior estimation of the following parameters: net reproductive rate (Ro), intrinsic rate of increase (Rm), doubling time (DT), mean generation time (MGT) and finite rate of increase ( ), for each o treatments evaluated.... |

Land-use system dynamics and demographic dynamics are tightly coupled. In environmental science and studies of changes in land use and land cover, an unequivocal relationship is sometimes found between both systems, especially in coarse-scale studies. To obtain a better understanding of these intermingling dynamics, we formulated an agent-based model, the MameLuke settlement model, that used a deductive approach to investigate these relationships. The model was constructed based on ethnographic histories of farm households in San Mariano, the Philippines. The model was calibrated visually. Although this calibration approach proved to be very inefficient, the model itself still outperformed a random model. The model formulation process and the model... |

Temporal (monthly in three fields for 12 months) and spatial (once in 23 fields during March-April) samplings were conducted in the major soybean (Glycine max)-growing region of the Brazilian Federal District. Fifty-three nematode genera were found in both samplings, but 13 were detected only by the temporal sampling, and one only by the spatial sampling. Fifty-three percent were plant-parasites, 35% were bacterivores, and about 12% were fungivores, predators and omnivores constituted the community that was dominated by the genera Helicotylenchus (40% of total abundance), Acrobeles (15%), Cephalobus (7.6%), Meloidogyne(5.6%) and Pratylenchus (4.9%). Heterodera glycines was not found in this study. There were no differences in ten ecological measurements... |

The host specificity and population dynamics of <i>Anguillicola crassus</i> in a number of paratenic hosts were investigated. Various freshwater fish species were sampled monthly (March 1990 to March 1991) from the Kolenhaven (Albertcanal, Genk, Belgium) and examined for L3-larvae of <i>Anguillicola crassus</i>. Sixteen species were found to be infected: all the physoclist species examined (<i>Gymnocephalus cernua, Lepomis gibbosus, Ictalurus nebulosus, Stizostedion lucioperca, Gasterosteus aculeatus, Oreochromis niloticus</i> and <i>Perca fluviatilis</i>) and those physostome species of which a sufficient number could be examined to detect the infection (<i>Gobio gobio, Leuciscus... |

Using the fishing records from the most relevant ports of the Cantabrian and Galician coasts, th history of the anchovy (Engraulis encrasicholus ) fishery in this area is reconstituted. The crisis observed and the variations in the fishing areas throughout the time are analyzed. An estimation of the age classes composition in the catches founded on commercial classification data can be made. The hypothesis of existence of a core population in the Southern part of the Bay of Biscay is presented and that only under certain advantageous condition the expansion of this species throughout all the Cantabrian Sea was possible. |

Neotropical populations of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella L. have seasonal cycles of growth and decrease, and moth migration plays a fundamental role in generating such population dynamics. Since the oscillation of these populations is predictable, photoperiod might operate as a signal that triggers the migratory behaviour of the insect. Migration in insects is usually preceded by reproductive diapause, a photoperiodic response that can be characterised by morphological, physiological and behavioural alterations that permit to discriminate between migratory and non-migratory forms. In this study, I tested whether the pre-imaginal and reproductive development of P. xylostella from Minas Gerais (Brazil) is affected by artificial day-lengths that... |

The semi terrestrial crabs are important elements of the fauna of coastal regions. The aim of this study was to analyze the population structure of Armases angustipes (Dana, 1852) at estuaries of the Ariquindá River, considered a non impacted area, and Mamucabas River, considered a few impacted area, on the south coast of state of Pernambuco, Brazil. The species occurred in all months of the year. The number of individuals per month varied, being higher in the months of transition between the seasons. This is probably due to significant seasonal variations of air and burrow temperature and burrow salinity. There was no sexual dimorphism in size of A. angustipes in the mangrove of Ariquindá River, but males were larger than females in the mangrove of... |

Abstract: The objective of this work were to evaluate the population dynamics of the rice stem bug (Tibraca limbativentris) around and in flood irrigated rice cultivation area, to quantify the insect population flow between crops and host plants, and to determine the effect of the species, the diameter of the plant, and the distance of the host plant from the border on the rice stem bug population. The work was conducted in the 2012/2013 harvest and in the off-season, with sampling of rice, Andropogom bicornis, and Andropogon lateralis plants in six cultivated areas, in order to count the number of insects. The population density of the rice stem bug in irrigated rice and alternative host plants presents spatial and temporal dependence. In the cultivated... |
