Intake, digestibility, ruminal parameters, and microbial protein synthesis in crossbred steers fed diets based on Brachiaria grass silage and sorghum silage Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Chizzotti,F.H.M.; Pereira,O.G.; Valadares Filho,S.C.; Chizzotti,M.L.; Leão,M.I.; Pereira,D.H.; Tedeschi,L.O..
A trial was carried out with four Holstein x Nellore crossbred steers (225±22kg of BW) fitted with ruminal and abomasal cannulaes in a 4 x 4 Latin Square design to evaluate the intake and the total and partial apparent digestibilities of nutrients, ruminal parameters, and microbial synthesis. Diets consisted of 60% silage and 40% concentrate formulated to be isonitrogenous (12.5% of crude protein, dry matter basis). Treatments consisted of different proportions of Brachiaria brizantha grass silage and sorghum silage: 100:0; 67:33; 33:67, and 0:100%, respectively, on dry matter basis. The intake of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, non-fiber carbohydrates, and total digestible nutrients linearly increased (P<0.01) as levels of...

Evaluation of models for prediction of the energy value of diets for growing cattle from the chemical composition of feeds R. Bras. Zootec.
Sampaio,Cláudia Batista; Detmann,Edenio; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Queiroz,Augusto César de; Valente,Tiago Neves Pereira; Silva,Robério Rodrigues; Souza,Marjorrie Augusto de; Costa,Viviane Aparecida Carli.
The objective of this study was to estimate and evaluate the contents of apparently digestible fractions of crude protein, ether extract and non-fibrous carbohydrates, the digestible fraction of the neutral detergent fiber and the content of total digestible nutrients (TDN) from the chemical composition of feeds in growing cattle fed different diets. Fourteen F1 Red Angus × Nellore young bulls with average age and weight of 12 months and 287±36 kg were used. Animals were fed elephant grass silage, corn silage or signal grass hay, with or without supplementation of 200 g concentrate per kg of the total diet. The experiment consisted of two 13-days periods, in which the concentrate supplementation was crossed over animals. The values of digestible fractions...

Yield, chemical composition and chlorophyll relative content of Tanzania and Mombaça grasses irrigated and fertilized with nitrogen after corn intercropping R. Bras. Zootec.
Pariz,C.M.; Andreotti,M.; Bergamaschine,A.F.; Buzetti,S.; Costa,N.R.; Cavallini,M.C.; Ulian,N.A.; Luiggi,F.G..
It was evaluated the effect of the absence and of application of three nitrogen doses (50, 100 and 200 kg ha-1of N) and four harvest times in the winter/spring season (from July to October) on dry mass yield (DMY), on the relative chlorophyll contents (ICF _ leaf chlorophyll index) and on the contents of total digestible nutrients (TDN), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and lignin, and their respective correlations on Tanzania and Mombaça grasses after intercrop with corn in distroferric red latosol (Oxisol) soil as well. It was used a random block design, in split-plot with four replicates. The greatest DMY occured with the increase of photoperiod (from August), neverthless responses to nitrogen fertilization...

Quality of the forage apparently consumed by beef calves in natural grassland under fertilization and oversown with cool season forage species R. Bras. Zootec.
Elejalde,Denise Adelaide Gomes; Nabinger,Carlos; Pascual,Mónica Graciela Cadenazzi; Ferreira,Eduardo Tonet; Missio,Regis Luis; Kunrath,Taise Robinson; Devincenzi,Thais; Cardoso,Raquel Rolim.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition of the forage apparently consumed by steers in a natural grassland on region of Campanha, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, subjected or not to different inputs: NP - natural pasture without inputs; FNP - fertilized natural pasture and INP - improved natural grassland with fertilization and over-seeded with cultivated winter species. Three Angus steers testers and a variable number of regulator animals per experimental unit were utilized in order to maintain 13 kg of DM/100 kg of live weight (LW) as forage allowance. One time at each season, hand plucking samples were performed along the daily grazing time simulating forage harvested by the animals. The collected samples after drying and...

Nutritional value of black and white oat cultivars ensiled in two phenological stages R. Bras. Zootec.
David,Diego Bitencourt de; Nörnberg,José Laerte; Azevedo,Eduardo Bohrer de; Brüning,Gilmar; Kessler,Julcemar Dias; Skonieski,Fernando Reimann.
It was evaluated in this work, crop yield, fermentative quality and nutritional value of the silage of cultivars of white (Avena Sativa L.) and black (Avena Strigosa Schreb) oats cut at two development stages. It was used an experimental randomized block design in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme, consisting of four oat cultivars (two cultivars of black oats: Aveia Preta Comum and UTFP 971; and two cultivars of white oats: ER 91156- 1- 2- 1 and SI 98105- b), with four replicates. The cultivars were ensiled at flowering and dough grain stages. Oat cut at dough grain stage, especially genotypes from white oat, allows the obtainment of a more productive and qualitative silage. Cultivar, genotype, and maturation stage affect protein fractioning and oat silage...

Growth curves and nutritional requirements for maintenance of asymptotic weight of Nellore cattle Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Arruda,Rosana Moreira da Silva de; Souza,Júlio César de; Jardim,Rodrigo José Delgado; Ferraz Filho,Paulo Bahiense; Silva,Luiz Otávio Campos.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth curve of Nellore cattle raised in the Pantanal, Mato Grosso do Sul, in different groups of size (weight), sex, and birth season, as well as to estimate the nutritional requirements for maintenance of the asymptotic weigh. The nonlinear models were adjusted using the Gauss-Newton method, with information on weight and age of animals within each (total, upper, and middle) group. The asymptotic weight was influenced by sex (P<0.05) in all groups. Regarding maturity rates, females in the total herd and upper group were more precocious than males, whereas males and females in the middle group were similar. Animals born in the dry season of the year showed a greater asymptotic weight in the total...
