Determination of the critical period of weed control in corn using a thermal basis. Repositório Alice

Field studies were conducted over 3 years in southeast Buenos Aires, Argentina, to determine the critical period fo weed control in maize (Zea mays L.). The treatment consisted of two different periods of weed interference, a critical weed-free period, and a critical time of weed removal. The Gompertz and logistic equations were fitted to relative yields representing the critical weed-free and the critical time of weed removal, respectively. Accumulated thermal units were used to describe each period of weed-free or weed removal. The critical weed-free period and the critical time of weed removal ranged from 222 to 416 and 128 to 261 accumulated thermal units respectively, to prevent yield losses of 2.5%. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o comportamento da vegetação espontânea com relação às taxas de decomposição de diferentes coberturas do solo submetidas à variação de lâminas de irrigação. Foram utilizados resíduos vegetais de Gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium), feijão-guandu (Cajanus cajan), capim Cameroon (Pennisetum purpureum) e Bambu (Bambusa vulgaris ‘vitata’). As lâminas irrigadas foram caracterizadas como T5, T4, T3, T2 e T1, correspondendo a aproximadamente 117, 100, 72, 59 e 38% da ETo. A decomposição dos resíduos vegetais foi analisada por meio de covered litter, em 2, 4, 7, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120 e 150 dias após instalação (DAI). Foram realizadas amostragens da vegetação espontânea aos 26, 64, 92, 124 e 152 DAI, em uma área de 0,0625 m²

Hormesis with glyphosate depends on coffee growth stage Anais da ABC (AABC)

Weed management systems in almost all Brazilian coffee plantations allow herbicide spray to drift on crop plants. In order to evaluate if there is any effect of the most commonly used herbicide in coffee production, glyphosate, on coffee plants, a range of glyphosate doses were applied directly on coffee plants at two distinct plant growth stages. Although growth of both young and old plants was reduced at higher glyphosate doses, low doses caused no effects on growth characteristics of young plants and stimulated growth of older plants. Therefore, hormesis with glyphosate is dependent on coffee plant growth stage at the time of herbicide application.

In Brazil, sourgrass is among the main species presenting issues in this regard. Residual herbicides are crucial tools for weed management, but the rate of adoption by soybean growers remains very low in Brazil. In this research, we used glyphosate tolerant Ipomoea triloba as a model weed species to evaluate the advantages of using residual herbicides on soybeans in multiple years and locations of transition and Cerrado regions of Brazil, rather than relying only on post-emergence control. Ein großes Problem des ökologischen Landbaus stellt sich in der meist nicht bedarfsgerechten Stickstoffversorgung der Betriebe dar. Dies schlägt sich sowohl auf den Ertrag als auch auf die Qualität der angebauten Produkte nieder. Um dieses Hemmnis zu überwinden, soll zum einen für den Bereich der Winterungen das N-Angebot des Bodens erhöht werden, indem eine zusätzliche Stickstoffzufuhr über die Ansaat von abfrierenden Körnerleguminosen als Beisaat in vorzeitig ausgesätem Wintergetreide erfolgt. Weed species diversity and cover-abundance in organic and conventional winter cereal fields and 15 years ago Organic Eprints

In this research, we compared the weed species development in conventional and organic winter cereals in Upper Austria. The investigations were done in 2003 in 15 paired conventional and organic farms. Following Braun-Blanquet procedure, a total of 105 weed species were found. 57 of them were found only in organic, four only in conventional fields and 48 in both. Therefore, there were 105 weed species in organic fields and 52 in conventional fields. More of the endangered species (Red List species) were found in organic fields. Low species diversity observed in 2003 compared to that in 1988 in the same field was attributed to higher temperature and low rainfall in the recent years. This paper gives a brief review of the major achievements in European research on physical weed control methods for agricultural and horticultural crops. Most of the work has emerged from an increasing awareness and concern about pesticide consumption in many Western European countries. The aim of this study is to assess the weed suppressive ability of crop mixtures and impact of weeds on crop yield as a function of species and densities by means of field experiments and controlled experiments with mixtures of barley and pea, conducted in Sweden and Poland. The performance of crop mixtures was compared to the performance of pure crops with regard to their ability to suppress weeds. In the fields, natural weed populations were used while the controlled experiments employed Elytrigia repens or Sinapis alba as a model weed. Individual plant care in cropping systems Organic Eprints

Individual plant care cropping systems, embodied in precision farming, may lead to new opportunities in agricultural crop management. The objective of the project was to provide high accuracy seed position mapping of a field of sugar beet. An RTK GPS was retrofitted on to a precision seeder to map the seeds as they were planted. The average error between the seed map and the actual plant map was about 32 mm to 59 mm. The results showed that the overall accuracy of the estimated plant positions is acceptable for the guidance of vehicles and implements. For subsequent individual plant care, the deviations were not, in all cases, small enough to ensure accurate individual plant targeting.

Effect of permanent ground cover on agronomic properties and soil fertility in an organic peach orchard Organic Eprints

In conventional orchards, weeds on the raw are mainly controlled with chemical herbicides because of their efficiency, their low cost and ease of use. The most common method in organic orchard to eliminate weeds on the raw consists of tillage operations. However, some drawbacks of these mechanical methods have been demonstrated: (1) the energetic cost (non-renewable energy) is high, (2) this method is time-consuming, (3) tillage interferes with the development of superficial roots and can hurt the trunk, (4) the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil can be disturb and (5) erosion and runoff potentially increase. Als Teil eines Forschungsprojektes wurde die Ackerwildkrautvegetation auf Flächen von fünf ökologisch bewirtschafteten Höfen in verschiedenen Naturräumen Deutschlands untersucht. Die Untersuchung von Rand- und Innenbereichen sowie von Transekten liefert einen Beitrag zur Diskussion über die Auswirkungen der Schlaggrößen auf die Artenvielfalt. Im Rahmen der Untersuchungen wurden sieben Rote-Liste-Arten gefunden sowie Pflanzengesellschaften der Roten Liste. Im Randbereich der Äcker ist der Anteil gefährdeter Arten höher und die Ackerwildkraut-Gesellschaften sind hier vollständiger ausgeprägt als im Innenbereich. Praxiserhebungen zu Aufwand und Erfolg der Handjäte in Möhren unter ökologischer Bewirtschaftung Organic Eprints

Der Beitrag beschreibt Erhebungen zum Aufwand und Erfolg der mechanischen Beikrautregulierung im ökologischen Möhrenanbau, die über 3 Jahre auf 6 Praxisflächen in Sachsen und Niedersachsen zum Zweck des Vergleichs zu einem in der Entwicklung befindlichen Robotersystem (Projekt „RemoteFarming.1“) erhoben wurden. Die zeit- und kostenintensiven Beikrautregulierungsmaßnahmen die z.T. von Hand durchgeführt werden müssen, werden wegen des großen Einflusses des Beikrautbesatzes auf den Ertrag (Minderung bis zu 80%) in Kauf genommen. Diese Studie ist Teil des Core Organic Plus Projekts PRODIVA - eine Zusammenarbeit von nordeuropäischen Unkrautforschungsgruppen im Ostseeraum. Übergeordnetes Ziel ist es, eine diverse und handhabbare Unkrautflora im Ökologischen Landbau zu sichern. Bundesweit hat Mecklenburg Vorpommern einen sehr hohen Anteil an Ökologischer Landwirtschaft. Nach wie vor sind Unkräuter eine Herausforderung in diesen Agrarsystemen. Agrobiodiversität zu fördern, hat in Deutschland einen zunehmenden Stellenwert. Vor diesem Hintergrund sollten Unkräuter einerseits in langfristig handhabbaren Größenordnungen bleiben, andererseits aber auch eine artenreiche Flora bilden. Der Anbau von Biozuckerrüben ist auf dem Vormarsch. Die Nachfrage nach hiesigem Biozucker steigt stark, auch dank der Swissness-Vorlage. Deshalb wird der Anbau nun mit verschiedenen Projekten und Innovationen stark angekurbelt, was auch schon erste Früchte zeigt: nach jahrelangem dahindümpeln als absolute Nische steigt die Anbaufläche nun an.
