In 1748 "Systema naturae", these two genera are separate, with 'Bradypus' in 'Anthropomorpha' and 'Myrmecophaga' in 'Agriae'. Draft of a letter from Carl Linnaeus fil. to Abraham Bäck (1713-1795), physician to the king and friend of Linnaeus pat. Dated 'London d 4 Decemb: 1781'. Written during Linnaeus fil.'s visit to London in 1781-1782. Linnaeus fil. writes about going through the terrifying collections of plants owned by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, collected since 1765 and hidden in packs never opened before. It is not eight days since he started, and describes them as amazing riches. He is very grateful to Banks and Solander for their friendship. He wants to see Paris, The Hague and Copenhagen before returning home. Mentions Carl Peter Thunberg. |

He has had a letter from 'young Forster' (Johan Georg Adam Forster, 1754-1794) now established in Berlin (probably Johan Georg Adam Forster to Carl Linnaeus the Younger, 12 November 1778, "The Linnaean correspondence", linnaeus.c18.net, letter L6266).
