| In the following pages I intend to give some informations about the voyage, which my wife and I made in the Indo-Australian Archipelago from November 1909 till March 1910, as an introduction to the reports of the zoological collections made during that trip, which are published in this periodical. In 1909 the dutch Government granted for the first time a sum for the publication of a work on the Fishes of the Indo-Australian Archipelago by Prof. Max Weber and myself, of which the first volume has since appeared 1). | Die unten aufgezählten, von Herrn de Beaufort während seiner Reise 1909—10 gesammelten Amphibien bringen eine wünschenswerte Bereicherung unsrer Kenntnis der noch sehr unvollständig bekannten Batrachierfauna einiger Inseln aus dem östlichen Teile des Indischen Archipels, besonders von Waigeu und Ceram. Von der erstgenannten Insel ist bis jetzt nur eine einzige Art beschrieben worden und zwar Rana papua Less., die zuerst während der Reise der „Coquille” im Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts dort gesammelt wurde 1). Von Ceram sind bisher nur drei Hyla-Arten bekannt (H. dolichopsis Cope ²); H. vagabunda Ptrs. & Dor., von d’Albertis gesammelt ³), und H. kampeni Barbour 4). |

| Amongst a very large number of insects from the island Simalur, west of North Sumatra, received from Mr. Edw. Jacobson and collected by himself, the Papilionidae were represented by eight species, which are common and largely distributed. Two of them were each represented by a specimen, which prooved to be a new variety from that remarkable island. Comparing this material with that of the islands Nias and Sumatra, it seems to me that the fauna of these islands will differ the more and more from that of Sumatra, or that there is a strive after conformity. | Helota attenuata belongs, together with Dureli, Moutoni and Helleri, to the group of Helota rotundata (see my „Synopsis” in Notes Leyd. Mus. Vol. XIII, p. 227). It is easily recognizable among these species by the coarse punctuation on the pronotum and by the reddish testaceous colour of the elytral epipleurae. When I described the species, the female sex only was known to me (Notes Leyd. Mus. Vol. XVI, p. 112), but later on Mr. René Oberthür received also the male sex from the environs of Kurseong (R. F. Bretaudeau) and from Maria Basti and Padong in British Bhotan (R. F. Durel). |

| Die Reisen des Herrn Bergingenieurs E. C. Abendanon in Celebes während der Jahre 1909 und 1910 haben wichtige Ergebnisse geliefert für die geographische und geologische Kenntnis dieser Insel. Sie haben aber nebenher auch zoologische Früchte abgeworfen, da Herr Abendanon sich der Mühe unterzog der Fauna der grossen Seen im Centrum und in der südöstlichen Halbinsel von Celebes seine Aufmerksamkeit zuzuwenden. Aux pédoncules étaient attachées quelques pinnules stériles, qui permirent de déterminer le specimen, de façon satisfaisante, comme Neuropteris obliqua BGT. La carotte contenant le fossile est de petit diamètre, n’ayant pas même 6,5 cm.
