| The Gulf of Capbreton is one of the first submarine canyons known in the world's oceans. A specimen sheet, based on soundings, was made by the Scientific and Technical Institute of Marine Fisheries. Moreover, west of the entrance of the English Channel, the studies conducted by E. Le Danois and L. Beaugé (1), who drew a map limited to the east by the shoal of la Chapelle, highlighted the complexity of the topography of the continental shelf at the two extremities of the great arc formed by this slope in the Bay of Biscay. |

| The study of the fauna and flora in a pond requires a good knowledge of this environment's physico-chemical conditions. Gourret (1897), Pavillard (1905), Sudry (1911), then more recently Mathias and Tcherniakofsky (1932), Fatemi (1938), Tuzet (1947) and J. Escot-Molinie (1955) provided information on the temperature, salinity, density, PH, etc. of one of the largest ponds of the lower Languedoc, that of Thau. However, for a century, the water exchange between the pond and the Mediterranean Sea has often differed. | In the collections brought together by Dr. L. B. Holthuis during a visit to Australia there is a specimen of the crab Pilumnopeus serratifrons (Kinahan) bearing the Rhizocephalan parasite Loxothylacus spinulosus Boschma. The locality of the type specimen of this parasite was mentioned as "Pacific Ocean" (Boschma, 1928, p. 172) ; in all probability it was collected in the region of the East coast of Australia, because the crab Pilumnopeus serratifrons is known from this region only. The new record gives occasion to restrict the type locality of Loxothylacus spinulosus to Mosman, Sydney, New South Wales. | I am indebted to the authorities of the Leiden Museum for the opportunity of examining and reporting on the large collection made by the late Dr. E. Jacobson on Simalur island and on its smaller satellite Pulau Babi, in 1913, between the months of January and September. The collection is large enough to enable one to study good series of a number of the forms collected, and to justify the naming of several new races. Some new forms had already been named by Dr. C. A. van der Willigen, who studied the collection several years ago. Whenever possible I adopted Dr. van der Willigen's MS names. | Notre connaissance du groupe des Orgeriini est d'origine récente. La première espèce qu'on a fait la description est Bursinia hemiptera, qui provient d'Italie et qui est décrit comme Fulgora par O. G. Costa en 1840. En 1849 L. Dufour a décrit Dyctiophora longipes et D. genei, étant des espèces qu'on a transféré aux genres Almana Stål et Bursinia Costa. Ce n'était qu'en 1859 que C. | Na composição de fórmulas de adubação para a cultura da batatinha com freqüência entrava o farelo de torta de algodão, com resultados satisfatórios (1). Em conseqüência da proibição do seu emprêgo como fertilizante, para ser usado exclusivamente na composição de rações para animais, procurou-se um outro farelo que pudesse substituí-lo e que não tivesse emprêgo "in natura", na alimentação animal. Dentre eles sobressaiu-se o farelo de torta de mamona, que possui um princípio tóxico, a ricinina. No presente trabalho são fornecidos os resultados da sua utilização na composição de fórmulas de adubação para batatinha. | A conservação de tubérculos de batatinha para o consumo vem preocupando os pesquisadores em diferentes países, por se tratar de um produto fácilmente perecível. Além dos trabalhos sôbre frigorificação, já bem conhecidos, iniciou-se o emprêgo de substâncias químicas inibidoras da brotação e que impedem as podridões causadas por Fusarium. Dentre essas drogas sobressairam-se o éster metílico do ácido alfanaftaleno acético e o tetracloronitrobenzeno. Os resultados alcançados, embora contraditórios em alguns pontos, vieram demonstrar a viabilidade do seu uso, principalmente em países onde o inverno é rigoroso. | An inventarisation of the plankton living in an old branch cut off from the river Waal has been made on August 16, 19 and 23, 1955. In the deep part lake plankton (Limnoplankton) was found, and in the shallow parts pond plankton (Heleoplankton) occurs. Some rare plankters typical for oligotrophic waters were found in a certain part of the river branch. A chemical analysis of this part of the water shows no real difference with other parts. The part of the old branch connected with the river Waal has a plankton community of its own. This is caused by the polluted river water. The horizontal distribution of plankton on August 16, 1955, was investigated. The vertical distribution of plankton investigated on August 28, 1941, is also given. |

N. 62° and 63°15' approximately. It is limited to the north-west by some steep slopes, to the west by muddy bottoms with a gentler slope.2. The hydrological regime is mostly characterized by the contrast between costal waters, with a low salinity, and offshore waters, around the slopes of the bank, coming from the Atlantic Ocean.
